This, for all intents and purposes, is the day the Spurs dynasty was born. Portland's spirits were broken after blowing this game and they didn't bother showing up for Games 3 and 4. And the Knicks were really just a formality.
Spurs 1999 playoff run is heavily underrated, they got a pretty favorable draw getting the #8 seed Knicks in the Finals but they did convincingly sweep both the Lakers and Blazers on the way there.
The other #8 seed, Minnesota, was hardly a pushover. They were the only team to actually get a game off those Spurs until the Finals Heck those Timberwolves did something that NY/LA/POR couldn’t in 1999: win at the Alamodome

It was a 50-game-season, so there was no true 8-seed. Im sure the Knicks could have been a top 3 seed in the East on a regular 82 game season. However, it was extremely impressive that the Spurs swept both the Lakers and Portland. I do wonder if the Spurs could have beaten the Knicks with Ewing playing.
@@brianwilliams6167 I actually do think that the Pacers could have beaten the Spurs. And I do think the Knicks with Ewing could have beaten the Spurs. However, i dont think both the Pacers and the Knicks could have beaten Portland
Another good video condensed very well. After so many years of wearing out Robinson he finally had some talent with him. The car salesman and real estate developer that owned the team through most of Robinsons career never spent any money on Help. They got a few big names, but at the end of their careers. If he hadn’t gotten hurt which enabled them to pick Duncan, he would’ve finished his career without any top name Help. Great player who deserved Duncan.
"The car salesman and real estate developer that owned the team through most of Robinsons career never spent any money on (h)elp." Interesting. I would love to learn its expounded version, if you don't mind. And fully agree on the last sentence.
I forgot how good Sean Elliot was. He made the game winning 3pt shot on his toes like a ballerina. Larry Bird did a game winning shot like that. 24:20.
This Portland team was stacked. San Antonio was just better. This Spurs team doesn’t get nearly enough credit. They were 15-2 in the playoffs. One of the best and most dominant teams over the last 30 years.
The Blazers were done in the series after losing this game. They never recovered after taking that big lead and Elliot making that great shot to win the game.
I was there and still have my ticket stub autographed by Sean Elliott best spurs game I ever went to ❤the Alamodome was so loud the atmosphere was amazing I’ll never forget it GSG!
I didn't realize how loaded this Portland trail blazers team was it's hard to believe they never went to an NBA finals but it was hard to beat the Spurs and Lakers during this time.
Quarter of a century ago. If not for the 0.4 shot (2004), Tim Duncan's supposed game-winner could be the biggest winning basket in Spurs history. "Memorial Day Miracle" started it all. Great memories. This run proved nice guys can finish first, let alone clinching the elusive Larry O'Brien trophy. I think during this series Damon Stoudamire said a team with Avery Johnson as the PG won't win the title. Another lesson talking junk to someone can be the reflection of oneself.
@@brianwilliams6167to me it always be the actual game winner. Especially since we beat the team that destroyed that Lakers team in the finals in '04 proving we we're always the better team. Bob Costas and Doug Collins calling the game. Underrated.
Unknown to anyone else at the time, Sean Elliott played this entire postseason with a failing kidney that left him feeling constantly fatigued.
So did Alonzo Mourning. They both had kidney ailments at the same time
But players today load manage because of a hurt thumb🤣

@@goldenstatewarriors4011 Mourning's kidney problems didn't emerge until over a year later.
These Blazers were right there, people forget they made the WCF 2 years in a row and lost to the eventual champs on both occasions.
