My favorite team out of the 5 championships. It was the first, and Sean Elliott and Avery Johnson worked so hard for this team for so many years to finally capture a title.
I will never forget this game! I was on a road trip and happened to be in San Antonio that very day. Me and my friend (we are both from Sweden) got tickets and went to Alamodome early. A women came up to us and asked if we wanted to become “San Antonio Superfans”. 30 minutes later we were dressed up in Spurs jerseys, high fiving all the Spurs players down at the court. In front of 30.000+ fans we were standing in front of the players when the national anthem was played. Surreal and one of the greatest memories I have! And what a crazy game!!! If someone out-there has the full recording of the game, with the intro and national anthem I would be so happy. We watched the replay the same evening so I know we were caught on camera. I have searched the internet but haven’t found it. /Martin
21 years have passed by since this epic game that broke the Blazer's back. The Spurs swept the series and the rest is history. What a trip to memory lane.
bumped into Sean Elliot at the veterinarian a few days ago, and, even almost 20 years later, had to thank him once again for that game and that fabulous shot. He hasn't aged one bit (and his dogs are just as nice and as gorgeous as he is).
Damn...how 20 years fly by. I remember seeing that live on TV as a kid. Going just as crazy as the fans in Alamo dome. Spurs now, might not be the team they were from 99 to 2014 but they're still competing. Still the best team ball team that made them the team of 2000s
@@TheMediocreDev That kind've how the Spurs got swept by the Lakers in the WCF so effortlessly, they didn't have an energy player to fire them up they easily gave up when they fell behind. In their 99 championship run they had Elie and also Jerome Kersey.
What's crazy I was a mere 28 years young when this game was played, was off from work that Saturday, my cousin was at work with me basically giving the play by play at the end of this game at home. I literally lost my mind when he shot that three how covered he was and to drill that three, I lost my voice that day afterwards. Man this shot was what was to become the start of the Spurs dynasty of greatness over the next two decades. Thank you Sean Elliot for this memorable point in Spurs history 22 years ago this month. Granted I think the Spurs were eventually going to win championships regardless of wether or not Sean hit that three, but it makes it that much more memorable that this happened. Thanks for posting this up. Just as a reminder for an NBA game in terms of attendance, this was not the record attendance, but the Spurs do hold the record for largest attendance in an NBA game, regular season or playoffs 22 years later. GSG!
I have goosebumps after watching this. I remember sitting at home watching the game, and going crazy with emotions. Loved that scrappy team, with a ton of good role players.
I really wish the NBA would bring back the Memorial Day afternoon playoff game. That was such a great tradition when the NBA was on NBC. So many great moments on Memorial Day afternoon - the Pistons' walkout after the Bulls swept them, MJ going for 55 against the Knicks, the crazy Magic/Pacers finish, the legendary Reggie Miller shot against the Bulls, this shot, Memorial Day always seemed to bring out the best in the teams playing.
We were so hungry in a Antonio during the 90 Bc we never won. Also the biggest factor is the changing of NBA arenas. The money is in the tv deals not huge arenas so they are much smaller. AT&T in less than half of the alamodome.
I think that is with all sports. Look at MLB parks now. They all seem to be arounbd that 35 to 45k capacity, but I recall when more than half were over 50k capacity. Sports as a whole, not what it was, which is NOT an improvement.
Don't forget the little things, all you ballers out there...during that huge run in the first two minutes of this video, Mario Elie back-tapped two loose rebounds out to teammates that turned into points. Maybe if he hadn't done that, we wouldn't be watching this video today...
It wasn't known at the time, but Elliott played the entire '99 postseason with a failing kidney that often left him feeling extremely fatigued even when he didn't exert himself.
People laugh when I say certain team's in sports were designed to be the collapse team lol. In the NFL it's the Falcons. MLB it's the Indians. NBA it's the Blazers.
The shot that started San Antonio's run to this day
one of the greatest moments in Spurs franchise history, gotta love the old Alamodome, amazing crowd (35000+ people)
We need our playoff games there
Miss that big blue curtain 😆
I don’t know why they even left great place

The moment Elliott hit that shot, all of San Antonio knew it was their time

Listen to that crowd explode. Alamodome days. That place was so big.
16 years later this remains a memorable shot . its going into basketball history for sure.respect from salonika greece. PAOK G4
I Remember this game I was only 9 watching. Good luck with the economic crisis in Greece from Texas.
Damn I was 15 in high school in 99 and I watched this game with my girlfriend who was a knick fan
***** Thank you best wishes to you too
the beginning of a special dynasty
One of many many memorable moments for the next 15 years! And the beat goes on! Go Spurs go!

MY GOD I AM GOING TO GET OLD I WILL EVENTUALLY DIE BUT THIS SHOT WILL ALWAYS BE YOUNG
Avery Johnson was a very good point guard.
He knew then his teammates well, and he passed the ball very well to them.
If Sean had put his heels down he'd have been outta bounds. Stays on his toes, fires over outstretched 6'11" Sheed...Bang! Amazing.
Looking back now you can just see how different the first run was. The fans were electric because we were so hungry to get that first one!
Yeah, in game 5 of the finals in 2014 the crowd didn’t seem hyped enough.
@@nintendolegonbafan5413 crowds in general these days suck
I was just thinking back to this game because these teams are going to play in the playoffs.

Mario was the though guy

I'm 37yrs old n saw this entire game at age 13, crazy how time flew but that Sean Elliott shot will always be fresh!
San antonio s first championship season! What a game! Thanks man!

Wasn't reggie's end of game garage against spike and the Knicks on memorial day?
Sean was dealing with a lot as far as his health was so happy for him..
Thank you so much for this!!
That crowd was insane
the NBA just isn't what it used to be here in this video. These fans are going crazy!
***** San Antonio fans are the best fans. We love our Spurs, win or lose.

Alamodome is huge compared to the at&t center it is nicer though the crowd is just jumping with joy lol
I get chills hearing that Alamodome crowd scream I wish I could’ve seen a game there but the AT&T center is just as good
Still tastes so sweet->SEAN ELLIOTT!!!

The Blazers of this era were great at protecting big leads on the road in the playoffs. 😎
Lol yeah .....
I like the color our court now but those colors were awesome too...i kinda wished they never changed them
I said the same thing.
David Marino we hated it back then..now we miss those colors
Like a retro night or something
Beautiful.
As a Lifelong Blazers fan, this loss was absolutely devastating…..
One of the best games that’s I saw outside while my parents were BBQIng I will never forget that moment and yeah that shot was awesome lol
Blazers have always been the best runner up team. I hope one day soon, they hoist up a Larry O'brien trophy.
Beautiful sean Elliott Beautiful
Still get chills watching this shit!
And Sean did all this with 1/2 a kidney! Amazing.
That shot changed everything for San Antonio
Hell of a game
Even cold & monotone Bob Costas gets excited in this one...
That night after the game everyone in San Antonio was driving up the street honking their horn All night Long
I love it
JailBlazers choking as usual.
I thought the fans were gonna rush the court it looked like it
It wasn't known at the time, but Elliott played the entire '99 postseason with a failing kidney that often left him feeling extremely fatigued even when he didn't exert himself.
after Portland lost Game 2, they lost their heart for the rest of the series.
I tried the tip-toe 3pt shot so many times as a kid after seeing this. Could never make it though. Haha what a shot
jmarshall88 I don't think if Sean Elliott tried it 100 times after that day he couldn't either
who would u all say was better in the 99 playoffs between the blazers and pacers
why exactly did the blazers and lakers not get any wins over the spurs in the 99 playoffs like wolves and knicks did
People laugh when I say certain team's in sports were designed to be the collapse team lol. In the NFL it's the Falcons. MLB it's the Indians. NBA it's the Blazers.
I was there in the upper level section
i will say the 90 91 and 92 blazers were better than the 99 spurs
most importantly the wolves and lakers didn't make deep playoff runs like the blazers pacers knicks and spurs did
"Speak of the devil!". ;-)
1:19
the 99 spurs won the title not facing legends like west bird johnson jordan jabbar robertson chamberlain and russell
Most of those dudes were over 60 years old, Spurs would have killed 'em
@@dash_r_media thanks 4 ur honesty + please tell me why u said that
