In '75 I was working at Tower Sunset. Bowie came in alone to buy some albums. No makeup, dressed pretty normal for the times. No one recognized him. I went up to him and said "Bowie incognito". He just smiled and put his finger to his lips. The '70's were great. So many top musicians came in the store without an entourage. Elton, Joni, Stevie Wonder, Led Zeppelin to name just a few.

I believe this too. The saying "Off to parts unknown" comes to mind, except I believe that he is such an old soul that wherever "there" is, he's been there and back and there and back again and there so many times that he probably pretty much knows every cosmic inch of it by now. He's surely still making cosmically amazing music, I agree...

It was my 65th birthday a couple of days ago. I was in my first year at Southend School of Art when me and four of my mates took my Mini to see him at Aylesbury. You probably have no idea how subversive and attractive he was then. I so wanted to be like him, but I've always had the build of a rugby prop. Nonetheless he made such a difference to my life and I've done some amazing things because of his inspiration. Now I'm old, fat and retired but still in my heart is David Bowie. Thank you for this gift.

The Spiders from Mars are one of the most underrated bands in the world. The bass lines are killer. Bowie took over a stage so magnetically that the calibre of the band behind him gets a bit overlooked.

HERE ARE THE LYRICS TO THIS GREAT SONG ENJOY :
Didn't know what time it was and the lights were low
I leaned back on my radio
Some cat was layin' down some get it on rock 'n' roll, he said
Then the loud sound did seem to fade
Came back like a slow voice on a wave of phase haze
That weren't no D.J. that was hazy cosmic jive
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
    He told me:
    Let the children lose it
    Let the children use it
    Let all the children boogie
I had to phone someone so I picked on you
Hey, that's far out so you heard him too
Switch on the TV we may pick him up on channel two
Look out your window I can see his light
If we can sparkle he may land tonight
Don't tell your poppa or he'll get us locked up in fright
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
    He told me:
    Let the children lose it
    Let the children use it
    Let all the children boogie
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
    He told me:

Just curious, all the lyrics say " let the children lose it let the children use it let all the children Boogie," but doesn't it kind of sound like he says let the children use it let the children lose it but all the children Boogie? Just listen to it again, and tell me if you hear it too. I know I'm wrong, but it almost sounds like that's what it says instead of the actual lyrics. Kind of freaking me out

He looked a bit nerdish back when he was around 15 to 18 years old. Never would have thought for a minute he'd end up being so drop dead GORGEOUS! I think his naturally super high cheek bones made him look even more beautiful 😍. Miss you forever.....awwww why did you have to leave us?? The world is much worse off without you in it!!! RIP😘💕

I'm a sculptor, and when I sculpt musicians, I tend to hear their songs for weeks beforehand, with Freddy Mercury it was constant Bohemian Rapsody, with Gene Simmons it was constant Strutter, with Marilyn Manson I was bombarded with The Reflecting God so I sculpted them, now I'm haunted with Star Man by David Bowie, guess he will be my next sculpture

He was always there in my life and (as someone so aptly commented elsewhere here) he was my friend I never met. This is an incredible video Mister Sussex, so brilliantly woven together, you've done fantastic work on this. I know how you feel, for me David Bowie has become more poignant as the years have gone by. You say something very apt, when you say, "he was my friend I never met". When he died Kate Bush said "he was ours" and both of you have summed up how I felt about him. He was woven in with my whole life, especially as a teenager. It hurts that he has gone, but he lives on in so many. ❤️

    Hey la-la
    Oh, oh, oh
Didn't know what time it was
The lights were low, oh, oh
I leaned back on my radio, oh, oh
Some cat was layin' down some rock 'n' roll lotta soul, he said
Then the loud sound did seem to fade
Came back like a slow voice on a wave of phase
    That weren't no DJ
    That was hazy cosmic trace
There's a Starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a Starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
'Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
    He told me
    Let the children lose it
    Let the children use it
    Let all the children boogie
I had to phone someone, so I picked on you
Hey, that's far out, so you heard him too!
Switch on the TV, we may pick him up on channel two
Look out your window, I can see his light
If we can sparkle, he may land tonight
Don't tell your poppa or he'll get us locked up in fright
There's a Starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a Starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
'Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
    He told me
    Let the children lose it
    Let the children use it
    Let all the children boogie
    Starman waiting in the sky
He'd like to come and meet us
But he thinks he'd blow our minds
There's a Starman waiting in the sky
He's told us not to blow it
'Cause he knows it's all worthwhile
    He told me
    Let the children lose it
    Let the children use it
    Let all the children boogie

I had the pleasure to see him preform this in his Diamond dog tour, in Montreal. This man was the foundation for all who came after. So many bands had something of this trailblazer in them. The New York Dolls for example. I know he worked with Eno..another brilliant mind. Brian is brilliant. His changes n persona will never be duplicated, though many many had tried through the Glam rock era. He was a chameleon. Ziggy the thin white Duke..and Labyrinth the child's movie. Now who could forget that? I know every mother with children at the time would watch over n over n over with them. Lol! If u have never seen it..please take the time to new Mom's u see and understand what I mean. Throughout the generations he stood for. Still I mourn him. I believe I always will. Intelligent and very deep thinker. Pacifist all around great man. Iman was the best thing that happened to him..n vice versa. The two souls connected. I could not imagine her loss. His children well rounded beautiful people. He was shy, never arrogant. Brilliant behind the scenes n in front. He was very much loved. He will always be Bowie. I love the man n music. No David this is not Moon age daydream. You have the real deal. Your home!May your soul rest n know..just how much u meant to so many people. I believe you do. Ur perspective so much clearer. Always, Always in my heart❤. There u shall stay. Love u!

The intro and opening verses to this song are so perfect for the time and place and scene that Bowie was in. Like a drug induced fantasy or sleep walk from some random party or gathering where you didn't know anyone and woke up without any bearing as to time or day. He lived it of course but also chronicled it so well in his lyrics and music. He puts you in that scene even if you were not alive at the time or aware.
