They not only are the longest running console manufacturer in the industry but their software has been remarkably resilient to more predatory practices such as micro transactions. I'm sure the amount of components they will be wanting to aquire will afford a very favourable discount. Component companies will be falling over themselves trying to get the Switch 2 gig. In recent years it seems Nintendo wants to retire both Amiibos and their mobile excursions, but I still feel it’s stretching the truth to say they’ve dodged monetization practices that have been plaguing the gaming industry.
I'm still expecting it to be soft-announced this year for an early-mid 2025 launch (with a similar 'small library at launch, about one game a month for the first 9-12 months' strategy as the Switch had), but fair point that the noises being made are likely indicative of a longer manufacturing process between soft announcement and launch.
Maybe in November they give a spec sheet and a sneak peak for the launch game(I predict to be DK), then a February blowout with system reveal and more games following a May Release
Unfortunately, there's no easy answer for Nintendo. These are very complicated times, especially financially, and there's nothing that they can do that has zero risk. I hope they don't refuse to do anything because they're waiting for an ideal time that may never come. At some point, they need to actually start producing the next console. You're right that, even if they have to eat less profits or even sell the Switch 2 at a loss, it's still worth if it means actually getting the console on shelves. I don't really get that sentiment, they would still be making way more money if they released a new console already alongside new games. If we get another year of remakes and minor new titles, the Nintendo brand is just going to start to become irrelevant.

Nintendo should just be a developer for Apple Games or something. Apple's mobile chips are already way better than what the switch 2 will be whenever it will release. The phone I have right now will be able to emulate Switch 2 games at a higher quality than the console itself. That's not a great sign for Nintendo as they try to sell outdated and flat out bad hardware.

I would say that it depends on what they want to do with the switch, after its successor releases. If they keep it around and continue to support it with some new releases. It would make less sense to drag out the switch successor's release.
My understanding is that Nintendo has a pretty big warchest of cash that they've been sitting on for quite some time. Do we think that a strengthening yen might benefit them in that regard? (Cheaper for them to invest in foreign devs maybe, or a more attractive dividend)
It's a very good point. I don't know about devs - they don't generally buy companies outright and employees are a long-term cost so the currency fluctuations would even out over time. Also, it's not clear that the yen is going to be especially strong anytime soon - just not as weak as it has been. On the other hand, purchases such as land for their theme parks, stores and other non-gaming ventures might become more attractive.
I think that the entire reveal, promotion, and release cycle could reasonably follow the same timeframes as we saw for the Switch. Alternatively, if Nintendo wants to keep the holiday period clear from too much noise, they might go for a reveal toward the end of the fourth quarter when the major sales period is at its tail end. A deeper dive and game focused Direct could then come shortly after in January to the end of the first quarter of 2025 with the console launching at the start of the second quarter of 2025 or the end of it, allowing for a generous amount of time for major launch titles to flourish and space for big anticipation of the successor's first big holiday titles. Some cross-generation releases could reasonably be leveraged to pad out the months of that first year if necessary, but I think it's reasonable to assume that a decent number of titles are lined up to prop up the launch year and get the momentum going. With Activision taking the initiative regarding Nintendo's hardware post-acquisition and Monster Hunter Wilds on the way, we might see major games announced for the platform that look and perform in a way that really bolsters the appeal of a portable/hybrid.
Great video! It will be interesting to see how this plays out. A question for you - in light of where we are now, where it seems that Nintendo has not yet started any kind of production or purchasing of materials for the new console, how likely do you think it is that the console will boast an 8-inch display (based on the 2023 supply chain data unearthed by Hiroshi Hayase at Omdia)? It seems a lot of people took Hayase's analysis as confirmation that the Switch 2 will essentially be a larger, more powerful Switch, but such a strategy appears to be very un-Nintendo to me. Would be interested to get your opinion on this.
I think he only assumed it was for Switch 2 but in hindsight doesn't it sounds like he was describing what became the PS Portable? Instinctively, 8 inches seems less likely than 7 - Japan generally likes smaller form factors and it would drive up price.
@@nintendoforecast such a good point! The Portal is the much more likely candidate here. And I agree on pricing and form factors going against how Nintendo normally operates. Thanks for responding!
I don’t really care if they delay the successor & it doesn’t come out next year. I would rather have a good system with a good library of games than an mess like what happened with previous systems.
I’m not too sure about this. I get Nintendo likes to wait and sometimes waiting is better for the company but after January no games will be released for the switch throughout the rest of the year besides Metroid which will probably be a cross platform title. Nintendo has had more than enough time to develop launch titles like a new 3D Mario, Mario kart, Metroid P4 and etc. I’m sure they have enough games prepared for the first couple months of switch 2. Nintendo waiting a year really won’t do too much for the library of games because most of them are pretty much ready to roll according to many sources and leaks.
This is amongst the most important factors. Not all things are equal and a healthy library of first-party software, third-party support, good pricing, and a release period that suits consumer purchasing/mind share are the most essential matters of success. Ebbs and flows of national and international economies at a particular moment aren't definitive factors in that the hardware and software ecosystem typically exist for many years. Delays will only provide so much benefit. There will be ups and downs with costs and logistics, but these things just have to be dealt with as opposed to being factors informing scheduling/output in a comparable way to the other factors. Renegotiating contracts and adjusting MSRP are always options if things are accounted for correctly.

Nintendo will take this years christmas sales with the switch before they announce anything. My preditction is early next year the announcement of the new console and mid to late 2025 release
To be clear, things like Switch performance or currency valuation don’t have an immediate effect on launch timing for hardware. It’s not like software you can delay indefinitely. You sign contracts and lock in a window to begin manufacturing and pushing it costs money and you lose your place in line, so to speak, to other companies. Hardware takes a long time and difficult to change course.
I still think the announcement isn't till the March reveal and Xmas 2025 release. Haven't had the typical factory leak yet so it doesn't seem to be in production yet.
Never thought about currencies value in regard to predicting console launch window before I watched your channel. Every analysis I've seen those last years on that subject seems dumb with insight...
The sooner the Switch 2 launches the better I say. The next system will be spending most of its time competing with PS6 and the next Xbox at this point and that really doesn't bode well for quality third party support.
@@therealjaystone2344 I'm leaning towards 2026 for the next generation. Now PS5 pro and w/e the Series X upgrade is might extend this generation by a year or more I'll grant you that, but it definitely seems like at least Xbox is leaning towards moving to the next generation sooner rather than later.
The US stock market has already fully healed from the early august dip for anyone wondering... the Yen is currently still on decline, but that just means Nintendo has to time their pricing on the next console.I don't think markets are going crazy for Nintendo right now (at least not in an actually hindering way) so id say this is already kind of a complete lie
2027 would be way too late to release the system because the PS6 and the 5th generation of Xbox would launch in late 2027. Switch could still continue getting new games in the first two years of its successor. They won't abandon it the moment a new console is out. So it's okay to release Switch 2 in 2025.

I have so many games to play, that i hope it comes out in 2046. And i only play Nintendo games
This got so heady and world economy related I literally forgot I was listening to a vid about nintendo
Incredible content as always !!
2026 is bunkers seems like waaaaay down the line.
I highly doubt we’ll see the next Xbox by 2027
@@therealjaystone2344 I'm leaning towards 2026 for the next generation. Now PS5 pro and w/e the Series X upgrade is might extend this generation by a year or more I'll grant you that, but it definitely seems like at least Xbox is leaning towards moving to the next generation sooner rather than later.
@@TromboneGamer Microsoft is focusing on streaming service for games. It will be a benefit for the company to be as a third party publisher.
Release it while Sony keeps shooting themselves in the foot >
It’s coming early next year
This is an early video :0
I've been experimenting with moving my release time to earlier in the day.
Take my 0.59 watch hours
11:41 ha, tell that to the US
Nintendo could realistically still hold onto the switch till march 2027 and release the switch 2 then
2027 would be way too late to release the system because the PS6 and the 5th generation of Xbox would launch in late 2027. Switch could still continue getting new games in the first two years of its successor. They won't abandon it the moment a new console is out. So it's okay to release Switch 2 in 2025.
@@lol-ih1tl albeit march 2026 could still be reasonable if they need the extra time for the games development imo albeit they hired allot of people in the last 5 years imo
If they announce it in 2025 and release it in 2027 that’s the same length as what the switch did perfect timing for the switch’s tenth anniversary I think they should wait
Fin
Right now, I want it.
👍
Let Nintendo do their thing with the Switch. With the incoming price drop, Nintendo selects, bundles and, new games it will be enough to keep it alive for another 9 months. We still have a lot of life and first party stuff coming to it.
Switch 2 will be released later in 2025. Everyone keep your pants on.
Isn't nintendo already start a production?
Only Nintendo and their production company know that for sure.
Their hardware is already done for some time ago and sitting there
Screw your first, second or turd comments.
fourth at that
I heard about that Nintendo is delayed the switch 2 until 2026 Nintendo is taking down all the TH-cam that people post it’s all lies
That's fake news
The most best selling Nintendo this year will be the best selling game on the system and that is of course Emio! 😁
Love this idea!
If they announce it in 2025 and release it in 2027 that’s the same length as what the switch did perfect timing for the switch’s tenth anniversary I think they should wait
Switch was announced in October 20th, 2016 and launched in March 3rd, 2017 which is roughly 4 months and 11 days, you got it all wrong.
