Hi Bjørn. My wife and I were on route from Antwerp to Lillehammer with a fossil car VW Tiguan. That same day we drove 950km from Bremen till Spekeröd. I was at the parkinglot around Flensburg when we received the notification of your live channel. So we had 110 km and 1 hour advantage. Maybe more because we already passed the Danish border. We also left at 12 o clock. I drove always max allowed speed. We only fueled up once at Malmö and eat something. It was a break of one hour. At 19:41 we arrived at Spekeröd were we checked in the hotel. It is only now I realise that you were there at the same time as us. If only I had knew 😉. Average consumption was around 6,5 - 6,9 l/100km e95. In Malmö i’ve quickly checked glimpse to see where you were. I was already impressed and saying to my wife that you were not losing time to us. But now I’m blown away. You were quicker than us. We were already on the hook to go for M3 or MY next year. But now there is no doubt. Thanks for your great movies! Greatings Peje and Tina

I did 1067km Berner Oberland to Berlin in 8,5 hours with an golf 4 2.8l once, just refueling and hammertime ^^ But i felt really exhausted on arrival. Enjoying the slow down with my model 3 very much!
I’d love to see the charging costs at the end of videos like this (similar to what you used to do for your Nimber trip videos where you showed what you earned minus the costs of food/ferries). It would be great to see the final costs of a 1,000 km trip using DC fast chargers in particular (and maybe even the comparison fuel costs for a fossil car). As usual, great video!
Simple, as far as I know Ionity charges a fixed cost of 8€ per charge. He did 5 charges so this is 40€ This pricing is probably not a long term offer, average cost would be more something like 0.33€/kWh x 238kWh = 78€. I took the german supercharger cost, it may be cheaper (Norway, is half that cost)
Your comparison of 1000km challenge made me bought a used 2013 model s p85+. The day I had it, I made a 3100km roadtrip. No difficulty, like you, but 3100km 💪

Nice Video and as much as I dislike the idea of promoting somebody to drive a diesel just to see what the result of the Thousand kilometer test would be, I guess I would support it in the name of science. @@DG-uv3zw my volvo wagon ( 2011 XC70 T6 Premier) which is mildly tuned to about 400 HP would beat this. 1000 KM = 621.37 miles and i completed over 650 mile trip in around 8 hours on american highways mean avg speed of 80 MPH which is always my target speed unless im on a section where police like to set speed traps or theres alot of merging traffic then i slow down but some areas i go even faster in depending on certain things. i think it was 8 hour and 11 mins, but very clear shot and i stopped twice.. 1st refuel was just that, a refuel, took no more then 2-3 minutes, 2nd stop was a fuel and food and pee stop.. that chewed up time. my car does roughly 300 miles per fill up on the highway with its 16 gallon tank, each fillup takes only a couple minutes and usually i stop 2- 3 times, 2 times if traffic is clear and i had a clear shot, 3 times is pretty typical, burn more gas speeding up and slowing down because of people and my heavy ass wagon chews up gas accelerating.
An average of 100km/h for 10 hours is a watershed moment, I think. With the amount of traffic on the roads these days, I wouldn't expect to go much faster. That firmly puts EVs on the same level as ICE cars.
It all depends how much you stop and eat. I'm working at Brussels (Belgium), but originaly from Latvia, so it's 2000km drive. To get to hotel, approx middle 1000km it takes about 10-12h with eating, fuel etc. The more on next day due to slower roads in end. Some crazy colleagues go non-stop 2000km, they manage approx 22-25h. Records are 17h, but that's crazy full throttle driving over speed limits. So I doubt you'll get a lot faster than 10h/1000km on ICE :)
based on the average consumption, this time almost 60 KWh more than the 10:10 run... with 120kw average charging rate (should be less if you take into account that you will skip the lower charging rate at higher percentage) it's 30 minutes total, meaning a 9:30 time is quite possible
i was thinking about the same, that would make for a total of 2500/2600km in 24 hours. But i reckon maybe even better, cause he managed to get a record 24h run of nearly 2800km back in july.
Fossil car should do it within 8 to 9 hours. I recently made 1200 km in Tesla model S from 12/2014. It took me 16.5 hours. Driving itslef was around 10.5 hours, charging - 3.5 but I lost 2.5 hours in traffic and d-tours...SHIIIIIT!
My car would do it easily . At 105 km/h, my car consumes 4 l/100 km (BMW 420d GC). I can fill 56 liter. I will be averaging just below 5 l/100 km at 120 km/h, so I should be capable of doing it in 9 hours with some breaks integrated.
When i visit my friends here in Germany i have to drive 460 km.. On the roads i have to use i consider myself lucky when i only need 4,5 hours.. Mostly its more like 5 hours because of road construction and stop and go traffic everywhere... So 10 hours for 1000km sounds about right and normal. To be fair i am using our ice trains for the trip lately because i need the same time and can relax while sitting in the Train.
Duct tape isn't really good for securing stuff like this - use tank tape (Panzerband) instead. You might already be using it, since Panzerband is originally grey - as your tape is. Duct tape on the other hand is originally black. But today you can get both in pretty much any color you want - so I'm not sure what you're using. :)
Not only that but drives aren't as fun in fossil cars. I used to do an 850 mile drive and try to stop just once for gas. I could do it in 12 hours but I felt like crap arriving. Doing the same one in a Tesla was more refreshing, and I'm sure it's even better with a Tesla with AutoPilot!
My conclusion is that the extra charge speed doesn't make enough difference if the battery is not able to take it for longer. In any case 10h or 10h30 means battery tech is mature enough to take the place of ICE. No need waiting for solid state or shitty hydrogen like some people think. Thanks for your efforts Bjørn! Interested in the Passat test.
That test will put the ev technology in the position that it deserves. What will be the excuse for not buying an electric car now? We will see how fast and how is the consumption in a Passat at 250 kmh...perhaps we get surprised! Bjørn for President!
Hi Bjørn! I have a 05 Toyota Avensis. I drove this summer 950 km on one diesel tank. That was from Kristiansand to Steinkjer via Dovrefjell. Fully loaded car, me, my girlfriend, my two dogs, a cooler and bags with clothes. Average fuel consumption was 0.42 l/100 km according to my calculations. Back home from our vacation I had mounted two extra lights on the front, but still the average consumption was 0.42, lowest consumption was after Steinkjer, from Steinkjer to Narvik we had 0.39 and back from Narvik we had 0.40 l/100 km... Total stops on the road to fill the tank you might ask? 4 times. Went from home at 9AM on a Monday morning. At the ferry in Drag towards Kjøpsvik at 6AM the next day (used 21 hours) so yeah .. I wonder how my next car will do the run.. My next car is gonna be a fossil car, a Isuzu D'Max 2021 . This is because I don't have the option to charge the car at home (renting apartment) And I drive over longer distance (with and without a trailer) a few times a year.
@@bjornnyland Well, I am a truck driver and know how to drive economically with other vehicles as well 🙈 I have tried the Tesla P90D once, it was a fun car to try out, but before the range of electric cars can go over 1100 km in one charge, I have to say I want to stay fossil.. but, I also have to say, I have watched alot of your videos and think maybe sometimes in the future, I might get an electric car..
Fossil cars I would consider for the test: (1) Performance competitors like BMW M3 or Mercedes AMG. (2) Family cars like Camry or Passat. (3) Hybrid like Lexus IS300h or Infiniti Q50 Hybrid. I have a Q50 Hybrid and sometimes it is nice to go for 400+ miles without having to wait at a charger.
If you drive a diesel and stop to eat several times and fuel once you would easily use 10 hours on 1000km. But If you eat while driving and have one short stop it is the speed limits that sets your time.
I did 750km between Swinoujscie and Krakow in Poland in about 6 hours with lots of traffic around Wroclaw and Katowice.. With my diesel Audi A6 Allroad.. Did stop 2 times.. I'm down for a competition.. Tesla vs Audi 3.0 tdi
Hi Bjorn, love your reviews. How is your energy consumption impacted if you install a roof rack + box? If you have the opportunity, could you simulate a 1000km challenge for going on ski-trips with a ski-box on top? Thanks!
Hello Bjorn. You asked how long a fossil car needs for 1000 km. I drive regularly (every year once) from Ingolstadt to croatia (to Duce, with the whole family and luggage). That is about 990 km. I need less than 9 hours for this. But I'm a slow car driver and I just make a stop. I drive through the night. So I escape the vacation jam. Otherwise it is not possible to arrive so fast. I drive an Audi A6 quattro diesel. But 1000 km in 10 hours with an electric vehicle is already damn good! How much did the 1000 km trip cost?
If Bjørn wants he can borrow my 2014 Passat 1.6 Diesel. Runs only about 200 km/h vmax but has with 80 Liters about 1200 km of range. We can meet in Germany / Hamburg at supercharger. I will follow with his Tesla if he want. Let me know if interested.
Hi Bjorn, would it be possible to put a link to your comparison file (on g drive for example) would be nice to scroll among the data. thanks, that's very nice to see what can these EV can do !
1000 km challenge with ioniq hybrid would be interesting. You won't be forced to pollute as much that way, and you'll get a best-case scenario for a fossil car.
I notice that the front motor doesn't run in these conditions according to the stats app. I'd be interested in a video that shows the circumstances in which the front motor bursts into life!
You said in the end you dont have 500km range anymore, more 450. Is it because you already drove so much and battery got worse? How many km do you have on the car Björn? Great video by the way!
Presumably the much higher Wh/km is due to the wet roads (and maybe wind) so comparison to the previous Tesla Model 3 LR 1000 km challenge is apples to oranges. I'll bet you end up under 9 hours if you repeat on dry roads and similar weather to the first test.
@BjørnNyland, when you first got your Performance Model 3 on stock wheels and tires, what were you averaging (wh/km or wh/mi) and was there any significant improvement when you changed to those 19” wheels and tires you were running?
Excellent video Bjørn and i am very jealous because in greece your present, is a near future i hope for us. By the way can you inform me about your car setup, plz?
Hej Björn. I have a question that might be interesting for you to look into. After reading through the release notes for the 2019.36.2.1 for my Model 3 SR+ in Sweden. I realised two things. 1.The supercharger update to 170kw for SR+ is not mentioned (as it were for some US youtubers). Is this a EU thing or whats the reason do you think if you were to expert guess? 2. The improved visualization including identifying traffic cones was not mentioned in my release note. some people is referring to this being the fact of 2.5 vs 3 HW where only the later one get it. But then again M3 cars sins april is suppose to have the HW3, and my car is june/july. Do you have it for MC hammer? Do you or anyone of the rest of you guys know if there is an easy way to find out if you have 2.5 or 3?
Hvilket middel bruker du for å holde ruten vannreppelende selv om du bruker viskerne også. Jeg bruker Rain-X og hvis jeg bruker vindusviskerne litt der så mister den nesten all reppelende effekt.
How old is your m3? I thought they stopped putting the UV coating (looks red when wet) on the rear window before the dual motor version came out... maybe the EU cars still get it for some reason.
09:00 nope, I don't need it, but I want it. The faster the better, especially if I'm on my way to work, I'm late and I forgot to charge the battery the night before 😖
Electric car driver excuses start at 18:37. 😂 But on a serious note, this is impressive and it could very well mean that I can have my next car electric (because from time to time I do have to travel long distances).

... 1.000 km in 10 h !!!
Hi, how do you calculate the next Ionity charger and are the Ionity chargers visible in the Tesla navigation? Could you make a howto video 😀?
I don"t know how he did it, but no Ionity is not handled by in-car nav. The website abetterrouteplanner is a very good solution for this.
Example : abetterrouteplanner.com/?plan_uuid=f60f8c04-6711-4d5d-9d20-6ff3cf4943d8
impressive that the battery got cooled down from 55 to 35 degrees in 2 hours
good thermal management is key
It cools down from 55°C to 40°C in just 20 minutes.
Have you thought of driving slower to be more efficient and thus save 1-2 charging stops?
Yes, compare it with fossil fuel car, like Passat (or something with more hp)! Would be great to see the time and cost comparison!👍👍💪💪
Duct Tape/Duck tape? MUST work when Wet! (actually, it Will keep a boat with a hole pretty dry if applied when boat id dry)
Great performance by duct tape and Tesla
Hi Bjorn, love your reviews. How is your energy consumption impacted if you install a roof rack + box? If you have the opportunity, could you simulate a 1000km challenge for going on ski-trips with a ski-box on top? Thanks!
Pro Tip for you guys use Rain-X on the windshield and don't use the wipers at all...saves power.
Hats off to you bro! Repeatedly you invest so much time doing these long tests! Great dedication. 😊
Gaffer tape for the win.
Hi Bjorn, would it be possible to put a link to your comparison file (on g drive for example) would be nice to scroll among the data. thanks, that's very nice to see what can these EV can do !
Check video description.
Can you do a test run with a M3 SR+? Would be good to see how reduced battery size and lower charge speeds affect result.
The name of the song At min 3.40? It’s not in your playlist, can you give us the name of the artist ?
1000 km challenge with ioniq hybrid would be interesting. You won't be forced to pollute as much that way, and you'll get a best-case scenario for a fossil car.
I notice that the front motor doesn't run in these conditions according to the stats app. I'd be interested in a video that shows the circumstances in which the front motor bursts into life!
Now do an AWD (non-P) 1000KM challenge with aero wheels :D
Wait for Tesla V3 supercharger, it will charge your car faster than Ionity charger at 250KW.
Nope. 1 hour difference is 150 kWh more. The difference in energy was only 60 kWh.
@@bjornnyland Fair point! Good way to think about this. I take back my bet :-)
Please surely the same challenge with the Passat diesel. We can compare how far EVs have come and see the electric beat fossil in the near future.
roadster 2 will beat any equivalent fossil!
Would love another 24 hour challenge to beat Porsche Taycan!
Well done Bjørn, but why not see how fast you drive in Denmark Sweden and Norway but only in Germany 😀😀😀
@BjørnNyland, when you first got your Performance Model 3 on stock wheels and tires, what were you averaging (wh/km or wh/mi) and was there any significant improvement when you changed to those 19” wheels and tires you were running?
Any news on when 250 kW Superchargers (v3) might appear on the route? It'd love to see how that affects things.
Get Aptera on your radar (aptera.us), it should do 1000km trip without any stopping at authobahn speeds. What's that, under 9h?
Jealous of those Ionity Chargers in Europe. US needs an equivalent. I know Tesla V3 exists but they are not really building them out very quickly.
@@larsradtke4097 They are hardly making traction.
Hi Bjørn. Would you consider doing the 1000km challenge with a ampera-e/bolt?
Not sold in Europe ☹️
what is the fuel consumption at 160 km / h
Can you do a video with a sr+ and the scan my tesla app?
4:00 -> You don´t use wipers when raining??
Autowipers continue to suck. They should've fixed them ages ago.
Hvilket middel bruker du for å holde ruten vannreppelende selv om du bruker viskerne også. Jeg bruker Rain-X og hvis jeg bruker vindusviskerne litt der så mister den nesten all reppelende effekt.
Duck Tape (Anka Tejp) for the win!!!!!!!
100 mile an hour tape, good shiiiiiiiiit
How old is your m3? I thought they stopped putting the UV coating (looks red when wet) on the rear window before the dual motor version came out... maybe the EU cars still get it for some reason.
I would like to have rotor and inverter temps instead of Regenerated kWh and Regen % please.
Please try it with fossil car!
Nice video!!!! When are you going to test the Porsche Taycan?
Please give more info about charging price!
What about the duct tape thing? Did the blinker just fall out?! How shitty is the quality of this happened?!
I've been charging my Model 3 to 80% but when I get to my car it is displaying only 79% consistently and ideas about this?
On the Tesla screen can you see ionity chargers also ? Or only Tesla suc ?
that charges faster than my phone and my phone has Quick Charge 4
Why didn't you stay in Malmö att the ionity charger instead of Löddeköpinge?
Explained in the live stream why.
Have you got RainX on your windscreen?
i think if drive with max 120km/h. it will fast than 10 hour a bit.
because the Wh/km will low.
Nope
09:00 nope, I don't need it, but I want it. The faster the better, especially if I'm on my way to work, I'm late and I forgot to charge the battery the night before 😖
nein,nein,nein,nein,yes,yes,yes,oh shiiiiiiiiit!
They don't call duct tape 200mph tape for nothing!
Well...
You can fix/hold ANYTHING with duct tape 👍
You still driving summer tires..?🤔
I did 260 km/h in another video...
Electric car driver excuses start at 18:37. 😂
But on a serious note, this is impressive and it could very well mean that I can have my next car electric (because from time to time I do have to travel long distances).
I guess you have never driven from Germany to Denmark before. Noob spotted.
Bjørn Nyland Czech Republic to Germany actually 😉
