I hope that you will continue to explore these paints. It looks like both your process and result were similar to what you usually have/do and I think you could have a lot of fun with it. Thank you 😊 ❤

Oh, I appreciate you saying that--it means a lot especially as it was my first time using those paints.

Dear Pam, I just recently bought some water mixable oil paints and haven‘t yet tried them out. Now I‘m inspired to start working with them myself. My Motivation for buying them was the final appearance of the oil paint, which I really like more than the acrylics. But as a total beginner I thought I‘d better Start with acrylics. I Like the portrait you painted very much. I will start with some abstrakt and will certainly also try a portrait, as your video encouraged me to just go and try 😎 thanks for sharing 🙋‍♀️ greetings from Germany

I totally understand Katrin--acrylics are much easier to use (in my opinion). The great thing about water-mixable oil paint is that the cleanup is similar to acrylic but you get the benefit of oil paint. For me, it was a unique experience testing them and I hope I don't wait years to use them again!

You are right. Ive invested in a bunch of oils also, and i havent touched them yet. Keep waiting till i get better. I started out with watercolors and invested so much $ in them. Now ive switched over to acrylics. I hope my watercolors dont go bad. They are Daniel Smiths, Sennelier, and M Grahams. The good stuff.

I am right there with you Diane and totally understand about saving the good stuff for later. I am really trying to push against that tendency but some days are better than others. I do think experimentation is good so trying all the different types of art materials can be a helpful and an important part of the process. You can always come back to your watercolors or incorporate them into your art. I think Laura Horn uses watercolors with other mediums beautifully--you should check out her YT channel if you haven't already. Let me know if you try your oil paints--I'd love to hear your thoughts.

This is uncanny! I literally was just thinking tonight how I should use those oil paints i was gifted 3 years ago ( only primary colours). I have never opened them, but tonight I had the urge to try them out, then you upload this video 😮 incredible!

Looks like we are on the same page! I totally understand (obviously!) setting paint aside for years. Let me know if you give it a try.

Wow! Pretty good. I did hear someone say that once you work with oils, you never will use anything else. I think thats also why i dont want to use them. Because now ive invested soooo much in acrylics.

Thanks Diane! I think the trouble for me with oils is the length of drying time. I can't really work in an art journal to practice using them because I can't close it so it has to be on loose paper and where do I keep all the paper while the oil is drying?! It is a conundrum as I would like to use the oils more but acrylic is just more practical.
