Why classic EV restomods will never work...

  • This is the F-100 Eluminator concept and it is based on a heritage 1978 F-100 pickup however there’s a major difference between the two.
In this video I’m going to let you know what I think about this design and overall concept because whether you’re a fan of EVs or not, this is a special truck.
Once we’ve analyzed this design I’m going to show you my 3 favorite classic EV restomods currently for sale.
So in case you didn’t guess it by now the F-100 Eluminator Concept is all-electric and all-wheel drive thanks to two powerful electric motors that are shared with the 2021 Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition.
Two electric motors drive the front and rear wheels giving the F-100 Eluminator a massive 480 horsepower and 634 lb.-ft. of torque. Eluminator, the first e-crate motor from Ford Performance Parts, is based on the Mustang Mach-E GT’s traction motor.
You can buy this motor online for a very reasonable $3,900 through Ford Performance Parts however it sold out pretty quick so if you want one right now, you’re gonna have to wait until they’re back in stock.
What I would like to know is what awesome projects are people going to use this motor, I’d love to see all of them.
Here’s why restomodding classic cars into EVs won’t work. Not according to me, but to a lot of people. They say you can never get the feeling of a V8 from an electric motor - it doesn’t rumble on startup, there are no vibrations throughout the chassis when you rev it, no noise or drama.
It’s like the engine wants to run free and show you what it can do. All you have to do is put it in gear and floor it to unleash the beast and hear it scream as it transports you into another dimension you’ll never forget.
They say this is impossible with an EV. They say it doesn’t have a soul. It lacks a heartbeat.
And you know what, I can completely see where they’re coming from. Converting let’s say a muscle car into an EV is like eating a plant based burger. It might look the same but you know something’s off. It just doesn’t feel right.
But let’s quickly jump into Photoshop and let me give you another perspective on these types of restomods. Maybe, just maybe you’ll change your mind.

Porsche makes e-fuel compatible with unleaded and leaded gasoline engines. You can fill up a 100 year old car with it and it will run in all it's former glory. At first they will use the fuel for their race cars, then they'll make more for classics.

I love a vintage mustang fastback, but if I had to smell those gasses every time I drove it, I wouldn't drive it much. I'm really hoping that there will be boutique manufacturers that can get this sort of resto-mod down to a science and begin offering a wide variety of EVs. I don't know if it just me, but the look of old vehicles like this truck is just so damn beautiful, mainly because every other company are into aerodynamic and smoothing things out so much that it just becomes a smooth blob of aluminum. If there is a battery with a good long range 600+ you can get away with restomods old vehicle to be EV but you will sacrifice range for sure, but if you just want an old looking vehicle just for local driving around town or city, sure. I can see it being useful, though will be a niche product. Kind of like the early 2 doors tiny cars meant for local driving not for highway cruising. Also hauling will be so limited which is what those trucks are made for. But if long range isn't a concern cause you'll be recharging it every night or two, then yeah it will work. However, considering how everything is trending, they will be left in the dust compare to other EV with 600+ mile range or more.

I pulled my 302 and tranny out of my 69 convertible and sent it into shelby for a work over. Bought a Webb electric 302 block. Slid right in. Bolts lined up. With the batteries supplied on the electric replacement block I got 500 electric horsepower and 80 mile range. Once I changed the gas tank out for batteries. I got 240 mile range. It’s respectable. Although it’s quite. I can’t complain about the instant power. Once I got the motor and batteries. Took four hours. Nice about webbs kit. It’s pre programed, computer module is already hooked up. So all you have to do is remove the old gas motor, tranny and gas pedal. Then put the new ones in. Hook of the water lines. And When your ready. Remove the old gas tank and put the battery tray in where the gas tank was. I had no intention of keeping the car electric. But now I am. Since I can preserve the og tranny and motor. And scoot around town in a hot car. Because I have over 200 mile range. I only have to deep cycle once a week.

It'll seem odd at first, then as time passes it'll become natural. As long as the speed is still on call that and the handling is what will matter. And the range. If they need noise they can listen to themselves screaming as they press down hard on the accelerator pedal.

Lookup the aviar r67 for fun. Carbon fiber bodied 1967 reproduction mustang lowered directly over a model s complete awd p100d skateboard, with a tesla inspired sick looking modern interior. Keeps mostly stock looking exterior with better aero and killer wheels.
Now imagine that car but on a plaid model s skateboard instead.
Or on an even lighter cheaper model 3 awd performance skateboard. 😎

Once electrification becomes more common.instead of people swapping LS engines they make anything and everything electric..so yeah it will work and it will catch on.. Specially with gas prices

thats what i hoped for the electric cars in my future. mitsubishi eclipse 1g with electric drivetrain battery in the front sitting low. rear wheel driven. electric cars are built like rc cars. should be easy to implement in every old chassis. but this will never happen because people like to buy ugly cars. i stopped believing. its like popup headlights. its not gonna happen. i will never sell or crush my eclipse. and i dont have the money to buy 15 year old electric cars for 12.000. evs destroy the used car market.

I hate the feel of ICE cars. the transmition feels jerky and the engine is making both an excessive amount of noice and vibration. On the other hand, I love classic car styling. I think retromods have their neiche.

Ignorant statements in the first 2 minutes of the video are a quick way to get me to hit the back button. “IT dOeSn’T mAkE vRoOm VrOoM nOiSes, It’Ll NeVeR wOrK!!!!” These electric motors are sold out BTW, so obviously a majority of folks disagree with you.
