    It's great seeing shops helping breathe life back into some of these cars especially at a lower risk for some with really really hard to find mechanical components.
    I'd definitely keep the engine on display in the garage somehow.

    I'm hopefully looking forward to the cost of electric conversions coming down a bit by someone making DIY conversion kits for more popular vintage cars, like my MK1 Golf GTI. Similar to a purchased kit I bought to convert my old Honda Cub to electric.

    Electric vehicle conversion is an aspect that isn't given enough attention when they talk about job loss in the automobile industry. I can imagine in the future that as battery prices go down garages will start finding new ways to make the cars better like replacing body panels with carbon fiber and eventually swapping the chassis for a skateboard platform

    • @Tsuter1978
      @Tsuter1978 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Neil Peters could just be a large household too, or having multiple cars for the ability to afford to have some down for repairs. If purchased at the right time or bad enough condition, the cost for 7+ cars could be way less than a new single SUV. But yeah, dump on the guy for enjoying old cars. That’s more productive.

    • @Tsuter1978
      @Tsuter1978 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would imagine if this type of trend starts to really take off, a company could make installs more bolt in type options. Once you do a e36 once, the second one could be less expensive as you’ve already done the R&D and prototyping. Or they could look at what part of the process really costs and scale that back. Possibly slapping in a digital dash in lieu of making analog gauges work could be a cost cutting measure that would appeal to certain folks. This is a place I would love to work at for sure.

      Open source 3d plans and models, 3d printable parts, eventually whole conversion kits for popular models, and constantly dropping battery prices. Labor costs will decrease also as more shops enter the market (higher competition and more readily available expertise/experience).

    • @LoanwordEggcorn
      @LoanwordEggcorn 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are many independent shops converting cars to electric. Look for some in your area, or start one.
      The costs are falling all the time, and the total cost of ownership for any EV is usually much lower than a similar combustion car, due to much greater energy efficiency and therefore lower "fuel" costs.

    Why many think that taking out the engine of a classic car takes out it's classic sound and such that is true but if we want them to be around much longer they need to be turned into electric because combustion engines can't last forever and are very expensive, while batteries become cheaper they will be cheaper to replace that with a battery pack than a gas engine I know that there is another company in the UK that turns classics into electric just like this company does and it's inspiring so many more startups and existing companies to do the same thing!

      Surely the main feature that makes it a classic is the design is it not? All they’ve done is change the propulsion system which does help future proof these cars. With conversions like this these vehicles will be far more reliable and last many years more as a result and will also not be subject to emissions regulations in the future.

    Woke classic cars!
    Yeah great. Take out the superb Twin Cam Nord motor and 5 excellent spd out of an Alfa 105 and fit a motor. Or rip out a 911 3.2 flat 6 and err, fit an electric motor. How about a Ferrari 250SWB not on cam with that glorious V12?!
    Who wants a 63 Stingray with that injected V8? not me! I'm all woke and want a silent motor.
    This is all BS. How much pollution is created and damage to the environment done manufacturing the motors and batteries for these monstrous Frankencars? I would lay a million that continuing running a classic on gas is nothing compared to the damage done to the planet by fitting this virtual signalling nonsense. Classics in general do tiny miles compared to modern soulless junk.
    Oh and how about bio-fuels? Clean burn renewable fuel is super clean.
    Discuss!

    • @Tsuter1978
      @Tsuter1978 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You realize these conversions aren’t really about the environmental aspect as much as they are about making a car more usable and able to be driven reliably. Someone making one of these conversions isn’t looking to save the planet, they just want to drive art and be able to enjoy the drive without worry of being on the side of the road with a breakdown or coming out on a Saturday morning and having a non starting car. I can understand the not wanting to remove such a large part of the driving experience, but if it’s between driving the car or having it sit due to needed repairs, it makes perfect sense.
