      Lmao! Both mine were rescued as kittens; the one was hanging around a golf course dumpster and the other came a year later in a crucial state, wandering about a rural farming area at a construction site which turned out to be our new home.
      No Galaxy cat daddy manuals there; though 20 years prior experience with cats helped immensely.

    I adopted a stray cat that ended up being pregnant, and she started going into heat two months after her kittens were born. Between her and her kittens running all over my no-bedroom apartment I’m surprised I didn’t totally lose my mind. Kittens adopted, mom spayed, peace at last!

      Same thing here right now. 5 kittens are 9 weeks old now. Animal control will spay and neuter all for free . But I think I want to keep all of them . I don't know if our parish ( county) will allow me to do that though.

      I’m going through this right now. The stray female cat we took in because she was pregnant had 4 kittens. Well 2.5 months later mama cat is in heat!! she’s been inside our house after giving birth, but we’re ready to get her spayed before she can go back outside again. We’ve been lucky to have found homes to 3 of her kittens.

      LOL, I was so worried for my baby I was almost in tears too when I first saw it. I'd had cats before, most female, but was too young or busy to remember them being in heat often. So when I first saw mine rolling around on the floor, trilling, rubbing her ears, I was so worried! We haven't spayed her yet, but hopefully next month if it's in the budget. I felt like a friggin' idiot when I was informed she was in heat. "You mean I was almost in tears because the cat...was horny?" XD XD

      I've just adopted a female cat two years old that's not neutered. She's gone into heat driving me mad she's so loud even at 3am and it's makes her smelly. I'm getting her spayed ASAP. Very important to get cats neutered I didn't realise it would be so bad.

  • @TheFablesKing
    @TheFablesKing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +377

    How to shut your cat in heat up?... get them spayed. It's so important. So many cats get put down daily. Please spay and neuter your cats.

    • @veramae4098
      @veramae4098 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @TheFablesKing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +78

      @@veramae4098 putting more cats in the world is not what we need right now. They are destroying the native animals populations and being put down in shelter. I don't find that as a solution, it just creates more problems. I can see where someone might think that though...

      We had a cat that we brought in to spay. She had a bunch of kitten fetuses inside. The vet took the fetuses and spayed mom. He said that she had too many kittens and big ones and if she brought them to term, She and they would have died.

    • @ChasehaWing
      @ChasehaWing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      @@veramae4098 If that's your solution you've doomed your cat, her kittens and quite possibly your entire neighborhood. You're "solution" is the exact opposite of a short term solution.
      Because if you let her have one litter, and she has 2-8 kittens, on average half of those will be girls. And then if you allowed mama to get pregnant, than most likely you'll allow 1-4 other girl kittens to be pregnant, which could create another 4-32 kittens, in less than a year. And if you keep letting these kittens have one litter each, there will be over 124 new kittens before a year is up, simply by letting each new girl have one litter each.
      This is why you have to spay and neuter your cats ASAP. what I mentioned was just the girl kittens having babies, but imagine what the boys are doing during this time. As Jackson said, it takes 2 minutes for them to mate, and 1-4 neutered boys, who can breed with multiple girls at once WILL do so. Remember that once they're in heat, family bonds don't matter and a mother will have more kittens with her sons, or sisters and brothers will mate once heat starts up, and boy cats who have not been spayed/ neutered are ALWAYS horny and ready to go. You'll have a cat infestation in a matter of months and will be unable to handle them all, the vet bills, and will overcrowd shelters which will lead to hundreds of kittens being put down due to there being no room.
      In short, getting pregnant is not a short term solution to handling heat.

      Have them volunteer at a intake shelter. Or even a rescue. They will change their tune!!!! Often people don't know how bad overpopulation of cats or dogs is. Seeing people beg you to take animals if you're at a rescue and saying no makes you realize how over populated they are.

    I adopted my Ellie from a family who decided they "weren't cat people". She was about 1 year old. She was covered in fleas and had a skin infection...she also had tape worms. She had been so neglected and hated that it took quite a while to win her trust. She was also intact. Almost as soon as she arrived, she started to do what you call catterwalling...I call it screaming! I got her to the vet as soon as I could, but it was a few days before I could get an appointment to get her spayed, along with the other treatments she needed. The estrus cycle did stop before I got her to the vet. When he opened her up, her ovaries were already swollen and going into heat again! I am so glad that I had her spayed...and she's a healthy 9 year old now. She's my buddy, and I can't believe anyone wouldn't recognize her sweet kindness.

      Im looking forward to jacksons video too but in the meantime I have a tip. Victoria stillwell had helped a blind dog in one episode. These are her ideas. First if there are steps in the house put down carpet or mat rigth were they start. Your cat will know the steps are coming. Put scented candles in every room. But different scents in each room. That way when she wakes up she will immediately know which room she is in. You dont need to light the candles they can still smell it in the air while unlit.

They were excellent at their job but we got them fixed to make sure they don’t develop ovarian cancer, not fixing them in the long run leads to higher chances of it. I grew up thinking heat was some extreme form of PMS b/c she would go from loving you to wanting you dead within minutes. And she would spray in my toy box. I lost so many Barbies...
    Fortunately, she had a good, long life despite the delay in spaying her. She lived 17 years, and her craziness prepared me for dealing with angry cats at shelters I've volunteered at. If I can handle a cat in heat attacking my ankles, I can deal with a little hissing.

    I recently got 2 of my cats spayed, one 7-8 months & another around 16 months. Their mom doesn't live here but once she has her kittens, she drops them off at my home, I have no idea why. Many have run off, some just disappeared, but my oldest one stayed with me during my difficult times last year. She went into heat at 8 months while I was still figuring out how to even take care of cats & being in awe with their adorable cuteness. It was not easy, she had a litter of 4 kittens and then another litter too, only one survived & she now almost 5 months (she's next in line to be spayed). And these cats don't live within my home, they live nearby and are here for food. The youngest one lives in my verandah. I struggle financially but feed them daily, give them spot on treatments and a good place to live. One of my acquaintances told me about low-cost spaying at animal shelters and I found one just in the nick of time. That's how I got my two cats spayed, it's like the weight has been lifted off my shoulders 😅 I love them all & I just want them to have a fuss free, healthy life. Spaying & neutering is the ONLY way to avoid heat and unwanted kittens into the world besides many health issues.

    Learning about cats in heat actually educated me on why my MIL’s cat was the way she was before she was spayed. I thought cats went into heat like once a month, like a human would ovulate, so I would unbelievable surprised when this cat seemed to *constantly* be in heat. It was like never ending. And as much as I love her, she was so annoying when she was in heat lol

    I was fostering a mama cat and you can’t spay when they are breast feeding so she was trying to breed with all my female cats and they were not having it! So I saw a video that you can push on a dimple near their tail and it makes them stop for a few hours. It worked to keep the peace in my house but damn I felt so dirty doing it. 😭 sometimes you just need to restart your cat though I guess

    I wish we had a low cost spay and neuter near me. Unfortunately the closest ones require you to be a resident of those counties and of course they aren't the county I live in. Our local shelter will give out coupons for a discount but they only do it when they get sponsors which ends up only being once a year or so. However I do save up the money for the spays and neuters because we get enough cats around here that are strays or dump jobs. Found one poor little kitten (probably three months old at the most) wandering our road (thankfully a country road with very very little traffic) who had a horrible infection in both eyes so they were both crusted shut. Got his eyes cleaned and medicated and he's now a sweet rotten full grown male. We tend to take in the sickly ones we find here, nurse em back to health, and find good homes for them though some we decide to keep.

    In the past I said I couldn’t afford to spay a cat that “showed up”. Well, untold # of feral cats later that had to be spayed, I spent a lot more money (food, vets) than an initial spay! Last month someone dumped a tabby & after the caterwauling started I couldn’t get her spayed soon enough. Thankfully there are kind volunteers with a spay/neuter non-profit here. ❤️

    Thank you, Jackson! This is exactly the information I was looking for. I took in a feral little girl cat, and she had a litter of two baby girls. I want to keep all three, but I am not able to afford to pay very much. The animal hospital near me that I found wants to charge me over $500. -- for only one spaying! I want to do the right thing for them, but I had been feeling hopeless. You have pointed me in the right direction. I want to give these girls a good life. Seeing my baby girl in heat was so hard to watch, she was obviously uncomfortable. And she did eventually escape.
    One more question you didn't cover -- how soon after giving birth can she go into heat again?
    Again, thank you for the information!🙏

    Thanks, Jackson! I found the video very informative. I thought you would also mention how important is the timing of the spay - meaning that you have to wait for the heat to be completely over. For one of my foster cats I had to cancel multiple appointments for her spay because she kept going into heat. After it was finally done, the vet said she still was somewhat in heat and lost more blood during the procedure. Fortunately she recovered well from it, but it did take her relatively more time.

    Thank you so much for educating us on the proper care of cats. This one about cats in heat was something I did not know fully. I rescued my nephews 2 cats because his mother wants to kill them. One is his Emotional Support pet and the other a companion. I am going to have both spade, chipped, annual shots and teeth cleaned while sedated; nails trimmed before I pick them up. I was hoping to take both in together but, with time, realize that won't be possible. When one is in heat, the other is not so separate appointments it is. I did educate myself on acclimating cats to the others in the household following surgery. 👍👍

    Before we moved in together, my boyfriend decided to not spay his young cat. I think with the first several heat cycles, it was hard to distinguish whether or not she was in heat (her caterwauling wasn't super distinct), but sometime after my boyfriend and i moved in she like had SUPER LOUD caterwauling. she went all out with all the symptoms (she was between one to three years old) and she even started humping us. I'm more of a heavy sleeper, but my boyfriend isn't and he couldn't stand the caterwauling at that point. We finally got her spayed last fall and god, things are so much better now. At that time we were also trying to introduce her and my other, older cat (roughly seventeen, already spayed) and i think the spaying helped alittle for the younger cat. They're not buddy buddies rn, but they can tolerate being in the same room, using the same litterbox, and eating together. It's not worth putting off spaying....

    Thank you so much for this video, I just got my cat Mercury a few weeks ago, she was a stray living under my friend's porch. I was at my mom's, then went back to my dad's house (where Mercury is) and he told me she was wandering around the house meowing super loudly, and had been doing it for a few days. At first, I thought maybe it had been because she missed me or something, and once I got back she'd stop, but nope. Noticed she was crouching down and kind of arching her back, and you know, making that position especially when I was petting her. Also, lingering near the doors and windows and just staring out them for like minutes on end meowing. Searched it up a bit and yep, definitely looks like she's in heat. We were already planning on bringing her to the vet soon to get her microchipped and fixed, but now I know what's going on with her! :} Hopefully we'll get this taken care of soon.

She was screaming loud all day - all night and obviously, no one could sleep a wink because of that. The only thing that helped was playing with her for several hours before going to bed and as she was getting super tired, she (and we) could sleep for some time. When this period was over, the first thing we did was SPAYING. Now she is 2 years old, enjoys her life and so do we :)

    After several vet visits for my female cat’s crazy behavior, we finally figured out that she likely has Ovarian Remnant Syndrome - triggering typical heat symptoms. Before we came to this conclusion I was worried she could be sick. Because why else would she be acting differently? The shelter and a different vet assured me she was spayed. Well, she was spayed. Instead, we landed on this - the vet who did the initial procedure likely did not remove all of the ovary tissue thoroughly… meaning she’d need a second spay procedure in order to put an end to this madness lol.
    If your female cat is “spayed” but clearly exhibiting signs of heat - ask your vet about the possibility of Ovarian Remnant Syndrome! If i would’ve known, it definitely would’ve saved me 4 pricey vet visits (aka the price of a second procedure lol).

      I adopted my fourth cat from a shelter about 6 months ago when she was about three years old or so. Everything has been great up till 4 weeks ago when she started all of these symptoms that Jackson describes. I took her to the vet who thought it was probably ORS so she was booked in for a removal procedure. Just the day before, the howling completely stopped so I foolishly cancelled the appointment. Exactly two weeks later the whole thing started off again even worse, so she's going back to the vet tomorrow to get it sorted out properly. The catterwalling has been absolutely horrendous so I'm looking forward to getting my quiet little kitty back. I feel like reclaiming the cost of this from the vet who supposedly spayed her when she was first surrendered to the animal sanctuary.

    Vocalizing is the clear number one symptom. I'd add restless pacing to your list at #2. I lived with it for almost 3 years when I adopted my first pair of cats. They were sisters from the same litter, one spayed, one not. Unspayed really drove me nuts, 3 weeks happy cat, 1 week evil cat, like the lunar schedule. I was new to cats and wanted to get as full experience as possible. And she was very pretty and wanted to consider mating her.
    Anyway it happened without me when she got loose, came back pregnant and had four kittens 9 weeks later. Turned out great, nice experience. I watched her raise them for three months, found great homes for three and kept one, who is a great cat, smart, affectionate, hunter. All spayed now.

    I've been long term cat minding an intact female. She always sounds so desperate when in heat plus, what concerns me most, is that she barely touches her food then.
    One of my other cats is a retired stud who was neutered over 10 years ago. Initially he clearly remembered his intact instincts and it was funny watching him going through the motions, even though nothing was happening. Now though, when the female pursues him, he gives me this look of 'not again, help'. Makes life interesting.

      @@TheLastDamnGamer She's not my cat so it's not my call to have her fixed. If the situation continues though, at some point I'll have to regard her as mine and I would then have her desexed. I have no intention of adding to the cat population. That would not be responsible given the numbers of stray and abandoned animals killed.

While I gladly feed hungry strays, my own cats are indoor cats only with neutering/spay and all vaccinations. And they are spoiled rotten too. 😊

    Hey Cat Daddy, I just want you to know that we really appreciate all your advice in this family. We have 2 indoor cats PLUS an outdoor cat that we just noticed hanging around our street a couple months ago. We have set an appointment to get her fixed as she’s already had 2 litters. (Unfortunately) she loves being inside and she is incredibly sweet for being born and so far, raised outside. So we now let her indoors every day and then back outside. But we just can’t understand how she keeps getting pregnant so fast!!! Luckily she has an appointment to be neutered in a few weeks. I hope this will help her finally get along with our other 2 cats! Thanks again for all your help!

    On the conversation of low cost options for getting your cat Spay or Neutered. I have lived in several areas of the country and have found that many mid sized or larger cities will have free or low cost temporary spay and neuter clinics several times a year where vets will volunteer their time to help out low income people as well as people to mass catch feral cats to get fixed.

Now that is a big red flag for irresponsible owners, breeders, shelters or adoption organizations to give or sell a a animal that not dsexed as there is heaps of animals born who get put down everyday b/c no one wants them as there is not enough people.
