Ay yo? It was an honor to show up in the video. Awesome vid, it really does sum up the idea of why I do what I do. The challenge of playing through whatever people think is strong, the joy of deck building something new and nonsensical, all of it is why I personally play the game. From the Suship Chef, Stay fun, and I hope to see you all again soon.
Hey, so happy you appreciated the video! I remember catching your deck profiles online and found it inspiring how dedicated you were to Suship. It only felt natural to "mention" (show a clip) of you at some point in a video talking about rogue. Hope to see you sometime around too!
That is EXACTLY why I play rogue: meta feels and plays oppressive, while rogue allows for a much more interesting and back and forth duel. Rogue is where Yugioh SHINES
As a rogue player this isn't a true statement. Most rogue decks abuse floodgates and even are designed as floodgate decks Icejade,Umi Control, Dinomorphia, Runick Stun ect floodgates are more oppressive than omni-negates which meta decks usually play. Rogue players seem to forget that Mystic Mine was a rogue strategy that ruined an entire format so much so that meta decks had to adapt and start using it as well and I'm going to tell you a card that states YOU CAN'T PLAY THE GAME really doesn't make anything shine in this game.
@@etherealhawkI never said all were that way most are though then you have the ones that all they do is OTK or FTK which isn't fun at all and isn't good for the game. I've seen good back and forth with both rogue and meta decks also rogue players need to realize that the rogue deck they are playing chances are was a form of a meta deck if not a meta deck at one point in time and to think that meta decks don't give the players playing them a challenge is a goofy mindset I challenge anyone who plays rogue with this mindset to go with the best deck to 3 YCS's and top all three if meta decks are just that easy to play won't be much of a challenge for anyone.
Building decks around interesting and cool archetypes is always the most fun I have with Yu-Gi-Oh... Also adding your personal playstyle and favorite cards can really make a deck unique in special in your own way which weirdly enough really resonates with the anime in a lot of places.
It's like for me, I play a Superheavy Samurai deck that has Kaijus and whenever I'm building a deck I always have the obscure card "The Calculator" because for the history that card holds when I was introduced to Yu-Gi-Oh
I recently won a game in locals with my adamancipator deck by summoning megarock dragon with 10K+ atk against a board with like 5 negates and just killed my opponent lmao
Really well done video! I really enjoy some event history backing these up. I do feel that this video can have a lot more depth to it because there is a lot of discussion regarding Rogue vs. Meta. This video ought to pop off though
Thanks for watching, I always appreciate the feedback! I was trying to discuss why people play Rogue exclusively, though Meta ultimately gets entangled in the discussion since the concept behind Rogue and itself are obviously intertwined. Maybe I could do another video later on comparing the two more closely.
Honestly, whether its meta, rogue or non-meta: I just like trying to break whatever deck i get my hands on. Dragunity is something I've been experimenting with a lot lately while working on my Pot of Greed video essay (since I'm more or less satisfied with my Hungry Burger deck atm), and its just really cool seeing what this old engine can pull off when utilizing modern staples and tech choices.
The reason I play rouge is also one of the reasons mentioned in the video which is its uniqueness and also one or 2 of the rouge decks that fits me well are Pure Noble Knigts and Earth Machines. I think it is also because of their raw power. Earth Machines having big giant rail cannons based on real rail cannons from WWII being able to deal huge damage or giant machines with huge ATK like Liebe or Ruinforce or Pure Noble Knights’s ability of passing of equip spells to another or the same knight after it being destroyed are my kind of play style.
Another reason is... I dont like when my cards are mere stepping stones in order to assemble some end board thats completely outside the arquetype... I like when my cards are not means to an end, but the end in themselves... And thats why i like generaider, despia, runick, quimera.
My favorite rogue moment was Thomas Rose winning first place at UK nats with Burning abyss. Also during prime skystriker meta. I play rogue sometimes because it's really satisfying beating a meta deck with them
Great video ! I agree with the message Rogue deck feels like you really are playing YOUR DECK not some strong archetype everyone plays I personally have a lot of with my raidraptors !
I love raid raptors. I don't play them or anything however I have tried making one but I didn't exactly know which monsters to add. My main deck is a pure Elemental HERO deck no ash or maxx I have almost one monster of each in my deck and don't really go off on the Archetype
The very first local match for me. Was me using lyrilusc tri brigade. I used fire formation tenki and asked for response and my opponent was like "what does that do?" and I explained it. And throughout my duels, most my opponents knew nothing about my deck. Many were shocked how lyriluscs spams so much. And liked the deck synergy. At the end it was fun. And my opponents were respectful and told me I'm good and knew how to do my combos 😊
he has to be new if he doesn't know what lyrilusc tri brigade does as that deck has been a meta for quite sometime. It feels really bad to be running a deck that was recently meta as most people would still know how it works and thus beat its weakened form, ruining the element of surprise that rogue decks needs to gain an edge.
@@datguy8296 nah, he knows the game for some time. And not much about the element. Another guy who played the game for more time was unaware of most of my combos. And the swordsoul player was expecting other strategies and liked how my board was progressing
Rogue just feels so much more fun to play. For both players and spectators, total shutouts where one person dominates with little resistance is not interesting to be apart of. Rogue really bring that engagement, the back and forth we loved in the anime to life in the game state and for that I will always love it.
I like a duel where it goes on for at least 6 turns and it's a back and forth to see who wins or my opponent plays a really good deck and has awesome monsters out and then it's my chance to turn to do the exact same
Welcome back, Tune 👊 glad you come back to Yugioh I also have some sort of burnout when Kashtira came in and destroyed all my rogue decks. After staying away from the game for a couple of weeks, I feel rejuvenated and feel good when I deck build cause I like building decks more so than actually playing it (weird, I know)
Good to see you again too, Ivan :D I completely agree with you. Tear format into Arise-Heart format was kinda draining as a rogue player - it was just so hard to contest with those decks. This format, even with Tear still being a potential threat, seems a lot nicer than before. In addition to this, a really nice locals opened up near where I live, and me and my friends have been going quite frequently which helps with passion for the game. It is funny you bring up that second point - I wanted to potentially write an essay on the idea. I find that talking about Yugioh and theorizing Yugioh decks can be a lot more fun than actually playing it. Maybe it's because I just like the critical thinking process, but I definitely think there's something there that trumps sitting at a table and duking it out.
You popped up on my recommended and I'm glad you did, I was about to completely ignore my ninja deck and rebuild lab. This video reminded me that I play yugioh to experiment with archetypes I love and see if I can beat "meta' decks, because it's so satisfying when you do and honestly I find deck building very therapeutic. So, thank you for this, I'll be putting ninjas back on the drawing board and see how I can build them for this format
Its like football (which i am an avid watcher), "every morally-sane person loves the story of underdogs". There is romance in it, as the true nature of human itself is struggling to achieve the success. And those reflected in YGO as rogue decks Im an abyss actor player, and i cant tell how my sheer dopamine erupts when watching spright, tear, or branded scoop after destroying my set card via Fantastic Theatre, or just simply outresource them.
Yo, if you ask me to read Abyss Actor cards, I'm conceding LOL I really like you weaving romanticism into this having studied art before. I agree - in a way, we can see rogue as a glorification of the challenge to do well in life that everyone faces everyday. Sure, meta is beautiful in its own means and it can definitely reflect the former concept. Even so, the sheer nature of rogue accompanies it best. Thank you for your comment :)
This was a really good video. As you said in this video i love the rogue decks uniqiness. I remember when i was playing Duel Links KC cup i was one of the few duelists that uses Jack atlas's Red dragon archfiend deck(before the skill)
Wonderful video! I myself have always played rogue for the love of the decks. Weather Painter is my favorite deck and I top locals with it each time i run it! There's a dedication and finesse to playing something so out of pocket and unique. Seeing rogue players do well and seeing the love they have for not only the deck but the hobby as a whole is inspiring!
I have a great passion and brethren love for my deck, destiny HEROs. But my preferred playstyle is OTK so I diverged from the norm of HERO decks and went off the fucking rails. Destiny HERO OTK! I get such enjoyment as I watch my opponent go from confidence in there board to straight up fear as my brethren wring there throat out. It fills me with pleasure in my soul when I get my brother dreadmaster to over 10k ATK, or even better yet over 15k. And then copy his ATK onto my other brothers.
Hey, thanks for watching! Weather Painter is definitely a very neat deck - the aesthetic of the cards is really pleasing (obviously b/c they're based on the colors of a rainbow). I remember playing that deck years ago before it got the new support in CHIM (?) and then the most recent field spell and link monster. Definitely seems to pack a punch if it gets going - glad you enjoy it!
I've been using my Alien control Deck for awhile now and have been tweaking it ever since I'm pretty proud of it. This video covered exactly the reason why I play rogue decks good job :)
Sounds neat! I remember playing Aliens in Duel Links - TCG is obviously a lot different than that format, but I'm sure the new support cards help it to some degree! I should look into it at some point... Thanks for watching btw :)
Aliens aren't exactly rogue, they're more so non-meta. Rogue is basically a tier 3 deck competitively speaking. Winning with a non-meta deck is probably even more impressive. Like, Lithium's Monarch deck that he ran at YCS Dortmund would be an example of a non-meta deck performing well. Dude went 7-3 in swiss which is really impressive for a deck who's only gameplan is to activate Domain and hope to god the opponent doesn't open Feather Duster on the next turn.
Very nice video that points at exactly why so many of us play rogue. One thing I would like to add, though, is that playing rogue will get you to open up to a lot more options than what meta players perceive. Card choices they wouldn't have thought about. Most rogue players are also more open to these options.
Though I am inclined to mostly agree with your point, I feel like meta can allow a similar process at times. For example, Unchained went through various variations before we got to its current point (e.g., when the support first came out, barely anyone was on the Tour Guide or D/D/D packages). I recall Zoodiac format back in 2017 (?) shifting constantly. At first people just played pure Zoo, but then later the Fusion Substitute combo was discovered, and then after that we started playing like Kaijus, My Body As A Shield, and Pianissimo. Rogue does force you to think a lot more different than meta, but meta can be extremely diverse and thought-provoking too. Just my two cents though - again, I feel you're correct otherwise. Thanks, by the way, for the kind comments, and thanks for choosing to watch the video :)
Glad I got this video on my recommendations, it was such a nice, relaxing watch and I felt identified with some of the reasons. I've had a complete Labrynth deck for quite a while now and I know the deck is tier 1 right now, but for some reason, I always perform way better with Traptrix which I have played for over two years now. I just find them way more fun than Labrynth even though they have arguably similar-ish playstyles. I also think they are really cute and have really fond memories of slowly max foiling all of them (just missing the starlight Allomerus). I also got my first wcq invite last week with Traptrix and it was really heart warming to see the community cheering for me for being the underdog in a top cut bracket filled with tier 1 decks. It's definitely my favourite archetype and no matter the meta, I will keep playing them because that deck means so much to me.
Thanks for choosing to watch the video! I completely get you here. I've had my fair share of playing meta in the past. Metalfoes, Sky Striker, True Draco, and Salamangreat are great examples. Yet I always find myself defaulting to rogue decks with similar playstyles. Sometimes, it's not so much that I dislike meta, but the fact that I just appreciate the lore or art of those rogue decks more than the meta decks. Happy to hear you got your invite with Traptrix, I'm rooting for you too alongside your community!
Another huge reason people play rogue decks (but won’t admit it) is because you can blame either your weaker deck or mainly your opponent’s stronger deck for your losses. « It’s not my fault » « there’s nothing I could have done » Etc etc. Just like it’s easier to play a multiplayer game and blame your team rather than facing defeat in a 1v1 fighting game for example. I have been guilty of choosing rogue to flee from the stress of my team’s expectations after I got back into the game. I felt like I’d never be able to get back to my old level and kept to playing weaker decks so that I didn’t have to face the reality that I got worse during the years where in person events were not taking place. Very interesting topic overall. Nice video.
That is a fair reason. I didn't touch up on it because I don't know how many people actually think like that - I like to be optimistic and think everyone tries to take every loss as a means to improve regardless of playing meta or rogue. Nonetheless, such a mindset does exist. I do appreciate the comparison to multiplayer games - for those games, at least, you definitely hear about those types of complaints. Thanks for choosing to watch the video :)
Some of the time I feel like that there can be a rogue deck that can break the meta and it will not be unique like for world deck and prank kids. It is cool to see a rogue deck win a tournament and that I can agree on
Load of BS. Most archetypes that were meta at one point or at least tiered have been fun and unique in their own way. They're usually the ones pushing the game's boundaries in meaningful ways. Decks like Shaddolls, Tearlaments, Nekroz, Drytron, Zoodiacs, Floo, Labrynth, Sky strikers all redefined and revolutionized aspects of the game more than all rogue decks combined. As for fun, that's pretty subjective. Ishizu Tear was the most fun I've had in the game, but plenty of people would say it's cringe because it's so strong. Meanwhile, some floodgate turbo decks like Heroes and Monarchs are hailed as fun decks because they're rogue.
@@kashira-0 all of the decks you listed are currently off-meta rn, aside from maybe tear and floo, and that's just cuz they have a not terrible matchup to stuff currently, and even then tear was neutered multiple times. And Tear is fun, it was just too good on top of that. The subjectivity doesn't really say anything in regards to the original point tho, especially when most people do consider rogue decks more fun while meta is often times boring or too sweaty... also, fuck strikers.
@@ashemabahumat4173 Those decks being off-meta now doesn't say anything. Saying weak decks are more unique is simply false when plenty of meta decks have been both unique and impactful to the game's mechanics. "Most people do consider rogue decks more fun while meta is often times boring" key word = consider. The majority of rogue players take pride in being so special and different by not playing a good deck. Kinda pretentious, but to each their own. It's literally a subjective taste as long as there is at least a single person who thinks a deck is fun to them. "Also, fuck Strikers." Ah yes, classic. I love it when the majority of active hate towards decks and their players almost always comes from rogue players who supposedly play for fun only. Anyways... activate Engage, response?
The meta is just dictated by whatever the best deck is currently. Exosisters are probably tier 2 this format since they counter Tear and Unchained, which are both very prominent decks this format. That doesn't make Exosisters any less of an interesting deck, it just means its meta this format. The real issue people have is just seeing the same decks dominate over and over. Spectators and casual players like to see variety in the decks they watch and play against, and those expectations are just incredibly unrealistic compared to how competitive metas actually form and evolve. This isn't locals (which is a more friendly tournament), people are playing at a YCS to advance to the world championship qualifiers. Its the rewards that set the stakes and expectations. People who take rogue decks or even non-meta decks (like Lithium with his Monarch brew) to those events are there to just see how far they can push themselves and their deck builds more than anything, they're not going in with the expectation that they'll advance to the WCQs. Its about self-improvement for those players more than anything, which is fine. And its because of that why its exciting when a rogue deck player does manage to make it to the top, like yesterday's Vanquished Soul player at YCS Dortmund who ended the event at 2nd place. Its a testament of being able to overcome the odds and come out the other end as the better duelist. Because lets be fair: playing a tier 1 archetype can feel really pay-to-win. All the other players are siding in order to counter you specifically when you run a tier 1 deck, which should say a lot about the power of your deck.
A friend of mine entered a nationals with his cyber dragon deck running 14 mirror forces and managed to completely defeat a full power sky striker deck back in 2018. We still talk about it
Moments like these you can't forget! Mine is when my friend borrowed my Magical Musketeer deck to play against Thunder Dragon. He managed to get exact game off a top-deck by making Utopia double. Keep in mind this during TOSS format (when Colossus was legal and when we didn't have Magical Musketeer Max yet), so it was such a funny win.
I really like this video man, very good and inspiring. Rouge is the definition of freedom in a game where the most efficient strategy just make everyone move like sheep repeating the same combo again and again, the fun element of a GAME will always have a place to still exist on Rouge. From the very beginning of my time in yugioh back in 2004 to nowdays, im always prioritising the fun and epic over the Meta as my motto and actually is a very good way to always enjoy the game and make your brain go beyond with more complex ways to play. Personally 2 of my favorites decks now are a normal monster/generic material fusion Turbo (Dragoon+DM Fusions/quimera/transcendosaurrus/last warrior) and a token/owner control (lava golem like +remove brainwashing/owner seal and give token traps to turbo Synchro/link) and is amazing how good they can be even in the current meta, not with every opponent but always with a window to make them shine, and since they're my own recipe make like you said, a sign of uniqueness that make me feel proud of them.
Ever since I tried Aromages in Duel Links when getting back into the game since my childhood (got back in the GX/Synchro eras in Duel Links) they've been my favourite deck and though I don't play Duel Links anymore since a long time, I still main Aromages in Master Duel. Looking up Rikka/Sunavalon combos and experimenting with multiple plant engines to set up an Aromage board + Teardrop and similar, running 60-card plant engine piles designed to serve up Aroma boards and are somehow ridiculously consistent, is the best thing in the entire game for me.
Hello fellow aroma enthusiast 🫡 it's always more interesting to see an archetype that forces you to play THEIR game instead of the standard meta strats
Thanks for making such a great video. It's great to finally know what category of yugioh play style I fall into. It's still a challenge to adapt to the current yugioh meta because I'm old school minded. I still like to play the cards that I like play, so I'm always still tryna improve my decks.
Me with Ninja, fighting for my life with the few resources I have available to me. The littest misplay will put me on the backfoot and it'll all come crumbling down. Meanwhile when it goes off, it goes off.
You've hit the nail on the head why I love playing PUNK! You've inspired me to start using my favourite Cyberpunk artists again. Thank you Tune World :)
Even tho Im mainly a Goat Format player, I’ve adapted what I learned being a rogue player from 2014-2020, and I’ve found so many synergies and tragedies that outside the meta that can still take games off the meta. It is the main reason I still play the game to this day. Nothing feels better than coming up with your own unique 40 and it still be able to perform and counter whatever the meta is doing.
Completely resonate with the last sentence. You just feel so powerful after making your own list and then doing well with it against friends, online, or at tourneys. I get people sometimes call Goat a rather solved format, but I appreciate that you're finding ways to innovate things!
As a Gold Pride/Punk enjoyer, I love this little high risk/high return deck. Fun playstyle with a couple of different ways to interact and end boards on. Honestly it's fun to see players panic at the sight of an unaffected, beefy Psychic End Punisher on the board.
I love to play decks which are not super common, I have Labyrnths but my Performapals or Phantom Knights are always a blast even using odd extra choices can be fun like using Gagaga Cowboy in Labyrnths because nobody ever see's it coming
You really called me out when you said "I play the Yugioh archetype PUNK for example because I really like how its cards represent a mix of different Japanese art forms and the cyber punk genre. I'm sure if you were to go to your locals and find your designated rogue rascals, at least one of them would say something similar about their respective deck." I only play HEROs because I went to McDonalds and got an Elemental HERO Electrum out of their promotional packs and thought he was so cool that I had to play Elemental HEROs. I don't think he ever hit the field to this day. Now I play thr modern version of HEROs and won't stop
Thanks, that means a lot since I put a lot care into these videos. I’ve been meaning to make more - I feel like these videos give the channel a much higher ceiling than the tutorials I make. It just takes time to come up with a good idea and then produce the video on it. Will keep it up as long as you and everyone else is down to watch :D
I appreciate the kind comments and appreciate the support! I can't promise that I'll be pumping out video essays every week (they do take a while to brainstorm and produce, and so some weeks will just be combo videos/ deck profiles for those that subscribed for these bits), but I for sure will continue making them.
It also really hits home because i remember the world chalice and prank kids YCS wins from that season. Those two decks became some of my favorite decks right after those events
Right?? I remember me and my friends watching the Bochum finals and like actively celebrating when Perico took down the Pend player. Definitely one of the most hype YCS finals in my opinion.
I play Code Talkers and nothing compares to the level of accomplishment I felt when I came back *twice* against a full board of Sword Souls and established a full board of my own to seal the OTK.
Been playing Runick Sky Striker for over a year, despite all my loses, the few wins I get off of meta decks keeps me going. It is a deck I feel is personal to me as very few people give the deck a chance and I am the deck’s most avid supporter on Facebook despite all the naysayers. I love the aesthetic and story the cards could tell together and there is nothing cooler to me then explaining to people why I like it so much. It’s a deck I can never give up on. It is my all time favorite deck followed by Hero and Pure Sky Striker. I love my Runick Sky Striker deck. Thank you for a video that I got to resonate with so much. :D
Literally me with PUNK. PUNK isn't the perfect archetype, but it's such a unique deck (IMO) and, like you with your combination of cards, I do feel connected to it since I've seen literally no one in my area (except occasional regionals) play it. I'm more than happy to hear that the video resonated with you - thank you for choosing to watch it :D
My current go-to deck is a fun, yet inconsistent Witchcrafter deck focusing on level 8 spellcasters (Swordsoul Iris, Dogmatika Fleuridis, both de Fleur spellcasters, etc.). It hinges around 2 quick-play tech cards: Chaos Scepter Blast to banish and Duality to escape effects. It has multiple pops, special summons, banishments, protection, all on either turn.
I recently built a Virtual World deck despite it not being as good in the current backrow heavy Meta just because i love the artstyle and wanted a synchro deck i could trust, then when i found out it's even better when mixed with PUNK, i discovered i loved THAT decks artstyle too! Now i have a consistent rouge deck made of 2 archetypes i love to look at while also being able to contend with frontrow heavy decks.
Im just a casual HERO enjoyer with my favorite monster being the Gigachad of Yugioh, Elemental HERO Neos! I really love the design of Neos and his Neo-Spacian/ HERO archetype. Im glad they're finally playable in a Rouge-Type way. There are so many clutch moments with Elemental HERO Nebula Neos drawing me a whole new hand and making the comeback.
This video is incredible. Personally my favourite deck is plunder and I'm glad to say I've got my Euros invite for 2024 with the deck. Remember to keep up playing your rogue deck. I'm only 15 and I've topped with plunder so I'm sure you lot can do it too
Damn, that's pretty nice, congratulations on the accomplishment! I have like three friends in my group that have played Plunder before - the deck is so damn unique, and the art and concept behind the cards that feeds into its playstyle (it kinda plays into the pirate theme by "plundering" off your opponent's attributes) is really sick. Your advice is surely an inspiration to more players in the community :) Thanks for the kind comments, and thanks for choosing to watch this video :D
I’ll always stay faithful to my trickstar deck. I remember buying my first booster pack & pulled Lycoris she stood out to me , & since then I’ve been running trick stars (Also how I got into the game)
I love playing Rouge decks, one of the decks I have played since its release is Scareclaw, I love the deck, and it is a cool rogue deck. I've also been trying out Red Dragon Archfiend for nostalgia 😅
Great video, it captures everything I think most YGO players enjoy about the game itself. People get too stuck up on what’s at the top of meta, I would say nowadays but really it’s been that way forever. Hell, DLink won worlds and Rikka Sunavalon just won Dortmund with VS coming second!
Yeah, there’s definitely reason to focus on the meta (helps you prepare for events; provides a good reference point for mybe building decks), but Rogue is incredibly fun. Dortmund and Worlds were really fun to watch, and I’m hoping for more! Thanks for watching!
For me, a Rogue deck is fun to play, but it also takes a lot of thinking when constructing to be as competitive as possible. I qualified for WQC, topped an OTS, and a few regionals with rogue decks. But also level of comfort and familiarity with decks. The most success I've had are with zombie and zombie variants, some with Eldlich when that was meta, some with PUNK, and some that had been part of BASED. Even playing in 2004, I topped my first event/locals when I was 11/12 with a deck that was centered around gravity bind and injection fairy lily that I made 100% on my own without help from my brother, friends, or people I played with.
Thanks for the kind comment! I've been meaning to try out Scareclaw now that the entire engine has been reprinted. I keep seeing the archetype pop up here and there at YCS's, and every time it does, it seems to just pop the hell off.
I normally make it a self imposed rule to not fall into any meta decks, but instead try using newer archetypes to improve older archetypes. Such decks I use on MD include Frightfur/Dark World, Naturia/Vern, and more recently a Malefic deck with the unlikely use of spright elf and crimson dragon. Just using these combinations makes winning so much more gratifying within the meta game of one card combos, a board with 7+ negates, or even decks that just allow them to do entire plays during the other players turn. This is why I love legacy support in some cases, but being able to combine cards from completely different eras is always fun.
I was pretty frustrated when the ban list dropped in May. I didn’t want to play anymore but since all of my friends were playing. I kept going. So when I picked up Dark worlds, I felt like things were picking up. Then I started to enjoy the game again. Like, man, it was fun to experiment with a lot of things. Instead of, following what’s good, I stuck to using what I liked to play. I went to my recent regionals and had a better time than the last one. I won against one of them meta decks but lost to a lot of them. lol. But it wasn’t a bad lost. I told myself, if I can do the hand loop, then it’s a victory. So I think I’ll stick to dark worlds.
Everything you said about reason 2 is what I honestly believe XD I just like making decks that I think are cool and even though they’re not meta (which is disadvantage like you said) you just end up standing out and with lesser known decks and you’re making a deck you just genuinely enjoy. Idk how many people play ABC, Train, Watt, and Water like I do🤷🏻♂️
As someone who plays a custom Zombie world/T.G./Eldlich deck. This video summed up exactly what I love about rogue decks. They’re always unique. Like people, and it really goes with my personality as a punk rock enthusiast as well. Meta players are a dime a dozen, they lack originality. Where Rogue players, they all have different decks, decks that they use to challenge rogue. To stand out. To show who you are. So yeah, I might lose a few duels playing rogue, but that don’t matter man. All that matters, is you stay true to who you are. And Rogue is a way to do just that.
For me it's definitely the aesthetic appeal and how unfairly oppressive meta decks feel. For instance in MD I used to play Labrynth, but when the new support came out for it and it became more commonplace, it just didn't feel the same. I like the idea of a deck that utilizes traps a lot, so I built a trap burn deck instead that is MUCH more fun to me. That said, my favorite deck will always be Insects. Entomology is a huge passion for me, so I just adore you can build a competent deck with all of my six-legged friends. There's even an archetype composed entirely of wasps, my favorite of all insects! And even here I will not just use any card, I refuse to touch any Traptrix card, regardless how useful it'd be in an insect pile. Those cards were designed to appeal to the worst kinds of people. The most memorable duel I had was also between rogue decks. Early in my MD career I was playing Battlewasp (before Beetroopers were added) and my opponent was playing Ra. There was a bit of a back and forth, my opponent kinda built a wall I couldn't conquer with Egyptian God Slime at one point, then I gained some momentum, but my opponent Ra Sphere'd me. So I used the Ra Ball together with Sting as material to synchro summon Ballista, debuffed all of my opponents monsters and landed the finishing blow by attacking Ra (debuffed to a mere 100 ATK) with Battlewasp - Sting the Poison (my favorite card in the whole game, it has 400 ATK). Having your favorite tiny lil' wasp take down a god is just something you don't get with meta decks. You just get decks with a bunch of guys or dragons or whatever. You never see a big beetle and that is sad.
I play Rogue decks, because I LOVE win with a inusual deck. Because I love winning with unusual decks in the meta or that almost no one uses in the competitive. That victory is more satisfying than going with the tier deck already predisposed by the majority and already known, becoming something very impersonal for the duelist. Going to a tournament, people tend to get more excited seeing a deck that no one expects, seeing how you exploit its strengths and facing the meta. If you win, that victory gives you a thousand years of life
I may have gotten this reccomended to me nine months late, but it spoke to me. I pet deck Earth Machine just because I love big machines and grindy decks. I wanna make it a full control deck without obnoxious floodgates, but it's been tough making a version of the deck I truly love and can also use at Locals(The few shops I can go to in the town over are very competitive) I wanna make Earth Machine work, and I'm sure I'll find a way to someday
I fully agree with all youre points in the Video. I used Rogue Decks all my Life since starting as a Kid. From Gemini, Plant, Zombie or DDD I played Rogue for all the Points you listed, but also two more. 1. I only play Decks with a mechanic or Artwork that I find interesting. If I dont like how a Deck is played or how my cards look its not woth to be played, for me. 2. I allways loved to think outside the Box. And with Rouge Decks you get that. Doing plays were you catch youre Opponent of guard so they have to pause and read the cards first to understand what you just did will never get old for me. As a Kid or a young Adult.
I'm a rogue player, I got back into Yu-Gi-Oh during COVID, i needed something to take my mind of off working in the hospital and how stress I was. So I started playing Duel links, I mained Red eyes, then was a Brick eyes players, but one day I came across a TH-camr called Yamiblood who was playing D/D/D,ever since then from DL, to MD, and now TCG I play triple D. But i fancy myself as a out of the box trip D player I enjoy it a lot, a lot people at my locals never seen a trip d player who wants to go second except for myself.
I had a conversation with someone at my locals about my rogue deck (ghostrick) and it boiled down to them saying they have never even seen the archetype before despite dueling for years and thats what makes me keep using them.
Honestly such a satisfying feeling! And props to you for playing Ghostrick - I remember playing that deck in high school. It was so damn satisfying to just flip a whole board facedown with Scare.
W video as a rouge player. since starting the game in 2014 i have only picted up one meta deck and i used it until my dinomist deck was ready we ballin
For myself, i used to play Yugioh when it came out till around the middle of GX before life got in the way and stopped. I loved playing around themes back then, i guess it was my love for pokemon, but playing a water, or music or a video game theme (cards that match a games themes or charachters) were what i loved. It took a long time getting back in with all the new, and just recently gor back in. I wanted to got a bit more meta then i was used to but, didnt find it fun. Decks all felt the same and were too generic and cookie cutter. While some decks did appeal to me, it felt like it was much more about winning then having fun and so i decided to give rogue a chance and found my place in the game. Personality and fun is what i loved and drew me back in, so ill cherrish anything that lets me express it.
This video really speaks to me. Im the resident salad player of my locals and ive been playing it for a couple of years now (been playing it since 2021 so it was past their prime). The thing that drew me to the deck initially was the fair price but later on I found that I actually like the deck alot and stuck to it. I have also played a bit of marincess on the side but thats just not hitting the same as salads did. Overall loved the vid lad.
i just love rogue decks.. it is just. you know. that feeling when underdog wins.. it is fabulous, they also tend to have different strategies then most of meta decks, rogue decks also tend to have very different approach to the game, their main gimmick, for example recently i really like play these three archetypes - marincess, traptrix and plunder - marincess is cute deck, link climbing while presenting towers and infinite imperm on drugs, lot of people completely forget about tower effect, they are also locked into water a lot, it is beatable though, traptrix is more of floodgate type but it just eats meta thanks to traps, and plunder is just so interesting choice, bringing rogue decks is also interesting for opponents, because they propably dont know that deck soo much, so you can suprise them with effects
I run rogue decks… nearly all the time. It’s an underdog deck… it takes work to understand.. and… when it works… it works.. often very very well. People also never expect them
@@1stCallipostle Being rogue doesn't mean it doesn't follow a flow chart, in fact alot of rogue decks have very linear combos, compare that to D-Links or tears which have free form combo lines.
Perfect video. I play Gishki. I have always played Gishki, variations of gishkis, other ritual decks. When I go to locals I’m always playing rituals. I’m that guy. I have found a way to make Gishki Melffy Spright, a deck that does everything I want my Gishki cards to do while also has really awesome combo lines. No one understands it like I do.
I play sylvans (a meta deck from 2014) and i can consistently put up like 8 interruption boards but if i get ashed once i pretty much need to scoop, the deck takes a good piolet and it also represents me and my gamboling addiction because theres no real set combo route, only what i get off my excavates. every single point in this video covers why i play sylvans so its fun to hear about why others play rouge decks
Sylvans was the most fun I’ve had in yugioh. All gas deck. Archfiends oath and reasoning makes the deck super fun. I wish they add more Sylvan cards or better plant extra deck monsters so they can return. Maybe even a plant only would charge would be anazing
RDA will always be my fav deck when I saw it was getting support I was super hyped and it didn't disappoint either I just love destructive the deck is and synchro summoning is my favorite way to summon
That’s why Rikka Sunavalon just won won YCS Dortmund.. a pretty strong ROGUE deck that people still for the life of them can’t seem to figure out. It just randomly pops up here and there. Rogue will always be important to any card game no matter what it is.
Honestly, I've been going through all of the general topics regarding decks - I might actually need to tock about a specific type of deck at this point. Stun would be funny to roast LOL
Not necessarily though, right? Sure, a deck like SPYRAL was rogue at first and then became tier 0 after Konami released Double Helix. Pendulum as mechanic took a while for Konami to break (unless you count Qliphorts which I don't really see as the standard Pend deck). But decks like Tearlament and Zoodiac, 2 well-known tier 0 decks in previous years, were straight up broken on announcement and on release.
when a rouge deck would be the most powerful deck in a format wouldnt that make it meta, since meta quite literally means Most Efficent Tactic Available and at that point its no longer rouge
@jevzhy No because at the moment it is rouge. Players do not know how "efficient" the deck is and thus can't put it on a scale. During this process the power of the deck hasn't changed.
For me is so satisfying to win with dragonmaid my fav deck in the game for helping me get use to the game(master duel) and i love the whole theme of the archetype (Love playing ghoti as well)
I love playing Rogue Meta decks, I love Branded as a whole, while it is a Semi Meta deck, but i love it because of Fallen of Albaz, so much so I'd slot fallen of albaz as a super poly in my HERO deck when he first came out, Making use to fuse away a opponents monster, And unbrick my hand to fuse with those off of Albion My point being, Branded was a escape of many meta decks at the time, It completely lacks negates besides Rindbrumm and Retribution, it was a nice fresh breath. I loved the idea of running a Shaddoll package in it, the frightfur package, using the fusion materials for something way out of the blue, Mixing it with older archetypes like HEROs, Dark Magician, even Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon Turbo, I love Branded as a deck and picked it over tearlaments because it was fair and provided funny combos. Overall, Branded was once meta but i still cling onto it like it was my child.
Ay yo? It was an honor to show up in the video. Awesome vid, it really does sum up the idea of why I do what I do. The challenge of playing through whatever people think is strong, the joy of deck building something new and nonsensical, all of it is why I personally play the game.
From the Suship Chef,
Stay fun, and I hope to see you all again soon.
Hey, so happy you appreciated the video! I remember catching your deck profiles online and found it inspiring how dedicated you were to Suship. It only felt natural to "mention" (show a clip) of you at some point in a video talking about rogue.
Hope to see you sometime around too!

This reminded me of the car meme where one guy is like "I like this", and then the other guy is like "but I like this better" meme
That is EXACTLY why I play rogue: meta feels and plays oppressive, while rogue allows for a much more interesting and back and forth duel. Rogue is where Yugioh SHINES
@somethingwithaz8237meta is for those who have skill issues
As a rogue player this isn't a true statement. Most rogue decks abuse floodgates and even are designed as floodgate decks Icejade,Umi Control, Dinomorphia, Runick Stun ect floodgates are more oppressive than omni-negates which meta decks usually play. Rogue players seem to forget that Mystic Mine was a rogue strategy that ruined an entire format so much so that meta decks had to adapt and start using it as well and I'm going to tell you a card that states YOU CAN'T PLAY THE GAME really doesn't make anything shine in this game.
Rogue decks aren't always floodgates. I play Cyber Dragons at Diamond in Master Duel and don't use any. The joy is breaking their board and OTKing
Eldlich stun is also rogue just a reminder
I have a pet Gaia deck that wants to OTK, but it can stick around for a few rounds. The draw power was pretty unreal honestly.
I recently won a game in locals with my adamancipator deck by summoning megarock dragon with 10K+ atk against a board with like 5 negates and just killed my opponent lmao
@@RomGomLP MY GOD MEGAROCK DRAGON!!!! I loved that card XD
I love how this came out the same day that Vanquish Soul made it to grand finals at yesterday's YCS in Dortmund
I agree with the message Rogue deck feels like you really are playing YOUR DECK not some strong archetype everyone plays
I personally have a lot of with my raidraptors !
I love raid raptors. I don't play them or anything however I have tried making one but I didn't exactly know which monsters to add. My main deck is a pure Elemental HERO deck no ash or maxx I have almost one monster of each in my deck and don't really go off on the Archetype
"Just play something people don't understand what it does cause Yugioh players can't read."
Rogue really bring that engagement, the back and forth we loved in the anime to life in the game state and for that I will always love it.
me proudly walking into every duel event pushing my wheelbarrel of ancient bricks
I like a duel where it goes on for at least 6 turns and it's a back and forth to see who wins or my opponent plays a really good deck and has awesome monsters out and then it's my chance to turn to do the exact same
Welcome back, Tune 👊 glad you come back to Yugioh
I also have some sort of burnout when Kashtira came in and destroyed all my rogue decks. After staying away from the game for a couple of weeks, I feel rejuvenated and feel good when I deck build cause I like building decks more so than actually playing it (weird, I know)
Good to see you again too, Ivan :D
I completely agree with you.
Wow I feel blessed by this recommended video. I fell like this will blow up to the hundreds of thousands of views. Spectacular work, friend!
It's on it's way there ;) thank you for the kind comments, and moreso thanking for choosing to watch this video :D
Its like football (which i am an avid watcher), "every morally-sane person loves the story of underdogs". There is romance in it, as the true nature of human itself is struggling to achieve the success. And those reflected in YGO as rogue decks
Im an abyss actor player, and i cant tell how my sheer dopamine erupts when watching spright, tear, or branded scoop after destroying my set card via Fantastic Theatre, or just simply outresource them.
Yo, if you ask me to read Abyss Actor cards, I'm conceding LOL
I really like you weaving romanticism into this having studied art before.
Yoo I've always wanted to build that deck, love the playstyle
Weather Painter is my favorite too, much respect my dude. Hope when I get the chance to attend my locals I can top with it too.
What a mood of a video. Love how chill your voice and music are
Thank you for those comments, it means a lot! Also, thanks for watching :)
@@four-en-tee "Umm...ackshually"
« It’s not my fault » « there’s nothing I could have done »
Etc etc.
My favorite deck is just pure Cyberse type.
I keep finding those things throughout the early Link era and i think im in love with them now.
Some of the time I feel like that there can be a rogue deck that can break the meta and it will not be unique like for world deck and prank kids. It is cool to see a rogue deck win a tournament and that I can agree on
They're more fun, usually. Different from the meta with their own gameplans, which makes them more unique innately and engaging(hopefully, lol)

Nah, thank you for the continual support ;)
Plus it can surprisingly play around some firms of interruption which definitely throws opponents off
I love to play decks which are not super common, I have Labyrnths but my Performapals or Phantom Knights are always a blast even using odd extra choices can be fun like using Gagaga Cowboy in Labyrnths because nobody ever see's it coming
Now I play thr modern version of HEROs and won't stop
i really enjoy when you make these kind of vidoes, so relaxing and you do such a great job
Need more videos like this found You on my feed and it was breath of fresh air
Amazing video ❤️ excited explore your channel and look forward to seeing you upload more video essays like this one
Wym there are a ton of sky striker players at locals lmao
@@Blackreapxr not at mine, I’m pretty much the only one. And besides how many people do you see consistently play Runick Sky Striker?
Literally me with PUNK. PUNK isn't the perfect archetype, but it's such a unique deck (IMO) and, like you with your combination of cards, I do feel connected to it since I've seen literally no one in my area (except occasional regionals) play it. I'm more than happy to hear that the video resonated with you - thank you for choosing to watch it :D
@@pk_tuneworld thank you for making this video and keep up the good work. Go PUNK and Runick Sky Striker!!!
Thanks for share! I agree as someone who plays rogues in multiple card games.
No, thank you for choosing to watch the video! Glad to hear the concepts here apply to card games outside of Yugioh too.
High effort videos in the yugitubing world? amazing. Props to you man.
SUCH a good little video!
:D
fantastic video on the concept of rogue decks really!
Thank you for choosing to watch it :)
@@pk_tuneworld incredibly insightful and a real joy to watch that was awesome, dude!
Great video! I've played Armed Dragon Thunder for 2 years, adding and removing some cards, and I still have fun playing Armed Dragon Kaiju hahaha
Thanks for choosing to watch it :)
I play an magikey adventure sword soul deck. It’s really fun. Not crazy, but I love playing it
I recently built a Virtual World deck despite it not being as good in the current backrow heavy Meta just because i love the artstyle and wanted a synchro deck i could trust, then when i found out it's even better when mixed with PUNK, i discovered i loved THAT decks artstyle too!
Your advice is surely an inspiration to more players in the community :)
Thanks for the kind comments, and thanks for choosing to watch this video :D
Blackwing, despia, beetroopers. I couldn't live without them.
I’ll always stay faithful to my trickstar deck. I remember buying my first booster pack & pulled Lycoris she stood out to me , & since then I’ve been running trick stars (Also how I got into the game)
This video was super good! Subbed!!!!
Thanks for watching it!
Super good video. I love playing my little Scare-Brigade pet deck, its fun and for some reason no one prepares for it.
Thanks for the kind comment! I've been meaning to try out Scareclaw now that the entire engine has been reprinted. I keep seeing the archetype pop up here and there at YCS's, and every time it does, it seems to just pop the hell off.
Very good video sir.
Thank you for watching it :)
This is why Dinomist has been with me all these years.
1 reason why I play rouge that a lot doesn’t realize is that the time & money that goes into the deck is very unlikely to be hit on the ban list
I always play some anime rogue deck, it’s just so much more fun and unique if you play a theme you personally like and enjoy even if it isn’t the best
Idk how many people play ABC, Train, Watt, and Water like I do🤷🏻♂️
This deserves more views than it has - Good shit
Replying 13 hours later and it seems it is earning those views :D
If you win, that victory gives you a thousand years of life
Great video and editing.
Thanks! Always try my best with these types of video :)
damn this video popped off, we love to see it
I may have gotten this reccomended to me nine months late, but it spoke to me.
From Gemini, Plant, Zombie or DDD
I played Rogue for all the Points you listed, but also two more.
Dinomist was really neat when it got released in BOSH - I remember playing it in high school for a brief period of time. Glad you enjoy it!
thanks!@@pk_tuneworld
YO so sick to see someone talk about the WC win
Still my favorite YCS win of all time. Such a hype finals.
Great video man!
Thanks!
I play entirely rogue decks except for one which was Labrynth but I built that when it wasn't extraordinarily strong.
i just love rogue decks.. it is just. you know. that feeling when underdog wins.. it is fabulous, they also tend to have different strategies then most of meta decks, rogue decks also tend to have very different approach to the game, their main gimmick, for example recently i really like play these three archetypes - marincess, traptrix and plunder - marincess is cute deck, link climbing while presenting towers and infinite imperm on drugs, lot of people completely forget about tower effect, they are also locked into water a lot, it is beatable though, traptrix is more of floodgate type but it just eats meta thanks to traps, and plunder is just so interesting choice, bringing rogue decks is also interesting for opponents, because they propably dont know that deck soo much, so you can suprise them with effects
I run rogue decks… nearly all the time. It’s an underdog deck… it takes work to understand.. and… when it works… it works.. often very very well. People also never expect them
It's nice to not play a flowchart sometimes. If I wanted to play a flowchart, I'd pick up Street Fighter V
@@1stCallipostle Being rogue doesn't mean it doesn't follow a flow chart, in fact alot of rogue decks have very linear combos, compare that to D-Links or tears which have free form combo lines.
Just waiting for Yugioh to come out with an official casual format and I’ll probably come back.
For me it’s a cross between unique aesthetics and play styles, though it is nice to run up and win with giant railway guns because I like trains XD
love the chill vibes in this vid
Hoping to make more in this manner ;)
@@xXRagingInfernoXx what sylvans need is a link one or better grave revival so we can play through a single interruption
Great video tbh. Throughly enjoyable 🎉
Thank you for choosing to watch it :)
That was pretty hype! What was even cooler was the opposing deck was Vanquish Soul which is also largely considered rogue - rogue versus rogue finals!
amazing video and it was very relaxing!!
Great video, encapsulate everything that is about playing decks that feel "your own".
Now make one on playing stun :))
Honestly, I've been going through all of the general topics regarding decks - I might actually need to tock about a specific type of deck at this point. Stun would be funny to roast LOL
All Meta decks where once rouge. Meta doesn't equal power.
A Rouge deck may be the most powerful deck of the format.
Not necessarily though, right? Sure, a deck like SPYRAL was rogue at first and then became tier 0 after Konami released Double Helix. Pendulum as mechanic took a while for Konami to break (unless you count Qliphorts which I don't really see as the standard Pend deck). But decks like Tearlament and Zoodiac, 2 well-known tier 0 decks in previous years, were straight up broken on announcement and on release.
when a rouge deck would be the most powerful deck in a format wouldnt that make it meta, since meta quite literally means Most Efficent Tactic Available
and at that point its no longer rouge
@jevzhy No because at the moment it is rouge. Players do not know how "efficient" the deck is and thus can't put it on a scale.
During this process the power of the deck hasn't changed.
For me is so satisfying to win with dragonmaid my fav deck in the game for helping me get use to the game(master duel) and i love the whole theme of the archetype
(Love playing ghoti as well)
I love playing Rogue Meta decks, I love Branded as a whole, while it is a Semi Meta deck, but i love it because of Fallen of Albaz, so much so I'd slot fallen of albaz as a super poly in my HERO deck when he first came out, Making use to fuse away a opponents monster, And unbrick my hand to fuse with those off of Albion
My point being, Branded was a escape of many meta decks at the time, It completely lacks negates besides Rindbrumm and Retribution, it was a nice fresh breath.
