I feel like when the editor was finishing the edit, he did so with headphones. Some audio balance issues. Before you are done, check with headphones speakers and cell phone.
All those stupid comments about the YJ. The YJ wasn‘t created as a rock crawler out of the box. AMC had to survive back the days and it was designwise all about getting rid of the CJ’s roll over issues.
Rock crawling mudding and 4 wheeling would be a much bigger market if it werent so expensive also it doesnt help that the majority of opportunities to do any of these things is located in the midwest and western states
How do you put a 4:1 kit in a 231 in 2021? $3500 atlas is only way to have 4:1, you know that. I saved $100 a week for 35 weeks after my terelow kit grenaded to have 4:1 again.
I think this is a fine line. I have ran lighter tires only to have them puncture on the trail. My preference is to run a strong tire (which is inherently heavier) with a forged wheel to save weight.
"Stronger and better then a CJ"- LOL sure...CJs many came with better drivetrains then the YJ. The longer length and wider width is the ONLY plus the YJ platform can offer.

I put a chevy 350 in my 87 yj and put a 8.8 ford rearend kept the stock font axle and transfer case i have driven that thing hard for the last 25 years and havent broken any of the stock parts so dont always belive what you hear its all second hand information
I have 93 YJ. Springs over TN front, under in back. (Daily driver, a bit more stable). Pro Rock 60s, A R B's front and rear. 4.7 in line 6 ( Hesco). NV 4500 tranny , Atlas 4 speed transfer 9500 lb Warn winch. Sets on 37 12.50 Truxus Mats. Front 60 has dyna Trac stub hubs. Lots more done, still lots left to do. I get 1150 on RTI ramp with leaves. Aftermarket support is great, love my yj on narrow trails where jks and jls are too wide. HIP TO BE SQUARE (headlights). Goes where I want it to.
What rear springs are you running to match the spring over front?
@@ninja63639 3 1/2 inch BDS with custom curved shackles, long trave rubiicon shocks, rear axle moved back 4 1/2 inches, 3/8 inch overload spring. Would like to spring over using Alcan springs, but I can't get lottery to pull my numbers
@@wesbarcus3761 I hear that. I contacted them for stock height packs with reverse eyes to do a low spring over and they wanted like 650 each or something like that
@@ninja63639 drive it like it is for now, or use R. E. Spring over springs. May take a couple of years to save enough to get top of the line, but you know what JEEP stands for, right? Just Empty Every Pocket.
@@ninja63639 what size axles are you running front and rear?
2500HD reg cab 8.1L: goods, bads and uglys. I'm looking at making my daily driver/occasional trail rider into something to go moshing the deep mud and sugar sand hills of South Jersey.
I love my YJ still pretty much stock provided it's got a 350 in it the four banger just wasn't getting it done lol
I have the 4 banger in mine and am looking at swaps. How is the 350 and what did you do to swap?
@@lifeofme3196 it's not really a bad swap you just have to cut the motor mounts and relocate them and then you buy a kit from advance adapters for the rest
You're wrong on so many levels. One it came with high pinion d30. Two it came with np231 tcase and the 258 is far from lame. It's a tank of a motor and with the right carb it can be very well suited for trail use. They also came with excellent tf999 transmission that has granny low.
You are right about the high pinion 30, good catch. They had a two piece long side axle shaft with a vacuum disconnect though so they are still junk.
@@HarrySituations with chromoly shafts I've been running 37s for years now rock crawling no problem. Lots of factors play in here. With an underpowered light weight jeep you don't need tons to have fun. Although that was the plan since 6 years ago I'm still waiting on d30 to blow up and she refuses.

Actually Peugeot transmission is good; I drove mine too hard but easy to fix a broken bearing, did not have to deal with extremely complicated shifter; you guys listen to too much online BS. A very easy transmission to work on. Upgrading leaf springs is so much easier to modify without all complications. Your viewers need to know the truth! :)
A Peugeot transmission might be easier to work on, I’m not sure because I’ve never had to rebuild any of the vehicles I have owned with AX15s.
Great Channel, gotta love that Axle Flex, Thanks Guys Awesome Jeep.
I wish Jeep would bring back the square headlights on a Wrangler
I'd love an anniversary edition or something like that that would emulate the YJ look. I think Quadratec made a JL look like a YJ if you want to check that out
YJ's are my favorite JEEP
There is no 1996 wrangler
I'm hoping it was just a typo.
@@danielshin540 me too!
Thanks for the clear history lesson and advice!
The YJ is the best Jeep ever made.
It's hip to be square mofos.
Hey I got a 94 with a 2.5L. I want to swap it for a 4.0L and ditch the leafs. I'd love to see some in depth set ups with coil springs or coil overs. Hope y'all see this!
I personally don’t think it is worth the money to swap in a 4.0L. I would just buy a Jeep that already has a 4.0L.
@@HarrySituations agreed, if you are gonna swap it go for a v8
4.3 Vortec V6 is an easier, cheaper swap than a 4.0
Besides a flat fender the yj was the first jeep I ever liked........ styling wise... I just can't stand the way the cj looked especially in the AMC years.... my dad has a yj fixed up that I did for him with a v8 and all the goodies... it drives and wheels pretty good! Oh and whispering "falkens are better!" Lol
Nothing beats a roach off road!
I live a bit east of Reno. I just got my first jeep, an 89 yj. I don't plan to do all the crawler stuff but I'm hoping to be able to get out with it. She needs a fair bit of work yet. It's there a good place to call or go into that you would suggest?
Dr. Smash in Carson City is a great resource for all things off road!
Great looking YJ! Curious of the Genright suspension on it? Was it a custom setup or one of their kits?
GenRight 3 link kit for the front and 4 link kit for the rear
I like YJ and YJis my favourite JEEP
How many times did he call his YJ a car? I know it started as a YJ but show some respect and don’t call it a freaking CAR! Nice rig now!
(It’s a car)
Jasonroche No it's really not. Show your jeep some respect man. Knock it off .

I built my own tire carrier and love it, but this one makes me want to go back to the drawing board.
Yeah good job on getting rid of the f n leaf springs!
All it took as two years and enough to buy a JL 😂
@@jasonroche4897 I can’t argue with that JLs are sweet but his ride is sweet too

Show us some more prerunner style vehicles. We wanna see IFS in action.
my 87 dosent hace c clips? and its stock still a 35
It's true, early Dana 35s did not use C clips.
Badass YJ!!
I just wish my YJ was a 4.0
No such thing as a ‘96 YJ. They only made YJ 1987-1995. It’s also a Jeep. Not a car.
When I blew up the rear end, I took off the rear driveline and converted it to front wheel drive for a while.
Are we story telling again my friend
Can't wait to build up my YJ wangler. Love the video. You still running the stock gas tank or got the Genright aftermarket ones?
Is that the 15 or 20 gallon tank? I plan on upgrading to the 23 gallon tank from Genright 😁
I’m running the GenRight 15 gallon
there is no 96 yj
I thought 1995 was the last year build on the YJ?
Huge shoutout!
Save the squares.
Jeeps awesome.... Except there isn't a 96 yj....
Good catch! We screwed up on that one.
He said his mom bought it in 1996, that doesn't mean the jeep is a 96.
It wasn’t for not a good rockcrawler it wasn’t even a reliable vehicle.
This things a beast. Any idea what the final cost is?
Probably close to $65k once I get the new engine and transmission in, not including fabrication
Thise vid good if you're one who wants extreme off road capabilities.
Not applicable for everyday, snow storm use, and occasional service road use
This is not a YJ anymore.
What color is that on the jeep? Normal blue ?
Yep factory blue.
Dark Montego Blue AY97PCJ
Rock crawling mudding and 4 wheeling would be a much bigger market if it werent so expensive also it doesnt help that the majority of opportunities to do any of these things is located in the midwest and western states
How do you put a 4:1 kit in a 231 in 2021? $3500 atlas is only way to have 4:1, you know that. I saved $100 a week for 35 weeks after my terelow kit grenaded to have 4:1 again.
Does anyone know what kind of bumper/tire carrier he has?
GenRight in the front, Modified Smittybilt with a custom carrier connected to the GenRight corners
that sad part is that good jeeps end in 2006
Why does no one consider the added weight with Nittos 🤷🏼♂️
I think this is a fine line. I have ran lighter tires only to have them puncture on the trail. My preference is to run a strong tire (which is inherently heavier) with a forged wheel to save weight.
"Stronger and better then a CJ"- LOL sure...CJs many came with better drivetrains then the YJ. The longer length and wider width is the ONLY plus the YJ platform can offer.
Sorry I should have been more specific. The galvanized tub and stronger frame of the YJ make it a better starting point than the CJ in my opinion.
what rear tire carrier is on this jeep?
It was custom built by Dr. Smash in Carson City, NV.
how much would a build like this cost to convert my jeep like this?
They didn't make a 1996 Wrangler/YJ....I have a 95'
It the video it says the roach is a 1996 YJ? YJ’s only went to 1995
The Tj is the best jeep ever made
Ehhhhh. I do want a TJ but only for daily driving. All factory. All the ones for sale have been mildly modified. I just cannot let go of my YJ for some reason though.
masking up in the middle of dessert
Could you tell me what mirrors those are
Olympic 4x4 safari mirrors
Thanks man
What is that rear tire carrier?
It is custom from Dr Smash in Carson City.
lame 258? lol theyre phenomenal engines. The peugeot trans was junk but 2/3 of the early yj's came with an ax15
I don’t like all the vacuum lines and the carbs that alway seem to need work. That isn’t necessarily the engine’s fault but I’d rather have a 4.0L.
@HarrySituations as long as you live in a state without a visual inspection you can throw most of that 80s emissions crap in the garbage.
The 258 is an absolute warhorse of an engine. I've seen those go 400k miles in commercial and farm trucks hauling huge loads.
More zuk content would be cool. But trails are always a win
Did you see the video I made last month on my Tracker?
@@HarrySituations yes, I have followed that build from the beginning. Love it. Odly enough I have a Zuk, an 78 F150 and a TJ. So I follow your stuff cause yours are built how Iam doing mine
