- To answer that question: Yes, they do. But what about the worm makes it so enticing to a bass, and what happens when you throw an artificial worm? In this video, I show you how bass react to LIVE Worms, underwater in their habitat. I provide some great commentary, and I hope you guys learn something! Let me know what you think about the footage in the comments below!

That first bass looked like it had line in its mouth when you were fishing with the lure
wow cool vid! so how do you place the go pro in the water? it looks like it would tip over if not on solid, flat ground.
TylersReelFishing bass eat anything I bet you I can cook scrambled eggs and catch a bass
Hey bro..I actually loved that video..... pretty cool
5:03 worms don’t have eyes
So how is that possible lol
This makes me think when I’m fishing they are just looking at my lures while I’m thinking there are no fish in the water.
that's wht I think to lol
Brian Lavinus Exactly
They do a lot. You have to tempt them enough or find The one that does.
I try to sight fish using a rooster tail
Tough in when they spawn
It looks like he's seen one too many of his school mates yanked up out of the water by worms like that.
Or its just that live worms work better then artifical worms
His problem was the weight the fish had seen one of those and they don't look natural a wacky worm fished no weight is dynamite
@@woodsc12001
I think it depends on the place youre fishing. I fish a bass tournament lake and they bass there will not bite a wacky worm because theyre too used to it. You’ll catch them on crappie jigs easy, but they wont go near a plastic worm
I love underwater footage! That is so much harder to get than it appears! I know that video probably took you most of the day to film. Props!

I've caught bass on nightcrawlers all my life in Ohio.
Same
Same
Is it me or are they breeding night crawlers differently? A couple years back i used to put one nice sized one on my hook easily...... now these mfs are literally snakes, i have to cut them in half for them to fit
Same here, i go fishing using nightcrawlers all the time and ive got a couple good bass of them
RS STACKS probably selective breeding, idk.
2:25 YOINK!!!
You know it son!
Bro I'm subscribed you are my favorite TH-camr
My funniest story: I've caught one bass up to this point in my life. I usually fish for catfish. However one time I was reeling in my worm super fast to re-cast and ACCIDENTLY caught a huge bass right before the worm got to shore. I literally saw it jump and grab the worm. so that's my only bass I've ever caught story. It was on accident. 😂
Wasn’t really giving the soft plastic the right action
Eh, everyone has their own ways that works for them the most lol
Mays_53 very true. In my lake they can’t stand a slow drag then a sudden pop.
You guys ever do the "wow look at that eagle" no pay attention to fishing then BAM! Happens to me more often then not.
I didn't go through all the comments, so this might have been brought up before ... the HUGE difference between your artificial presentation and your live bait presentation. You never stopped moving the artificial baits. The bass were interested, but the constant movement was keeping them from moving in. When it stopped moving, they immediately started moving in on it ... then you jerked it again and they moved off.
With the live bait, you let it sit still.
MOST people fish artificial baits WAY too fast. Bass are ambush predators. I constantly moving bait "looks" like a chase. When it stops, it's ready to be ambushed.
Good point
I noticed that too. Also looked like there wasn't enough distance between hook n weight, it caused more distraction than the bait.
I catch myself fishing too fast as well. Often right after I catch one. Probably just excitement
This is 100% true. I also sight fish for perch and only way i catch them in crystal clear lake is by casting it out, let it sit for 20 seconds than move it slightly and buummm
My thoughts exactly.
I’ve been fishing for about 40 years now and I’ll tell you this bass will eat anything that fits in their mouths
Unless it's on my line. Then they don't eat at all.
@@leokuklok834 Right?!?
@@leokuklok834 same. i've been fishing every other day lately, but haven't caught a single fish.
Karam J I haven’t caught a single fish in the last two years I’ve been fishing
Same here they'll eat anything that's fits in their mouth, its jus about how you present it
The biggest problem with using live worms for bass is the bluegill get to it first usually.
Exactly, mine always get demolished by bluegill and baby perch.
Make the worm the hook
@@that1dude25 They just nibble at that from the sides untill there's nothing left. Trust me, I already tried that lol
Haze Haberdasher put your bait deeper?🤷♂️
Happens to meet too, but I don't mind. Bluegill are delicious!
Live worms are one of the most effective baits you can use for fishing (blue gill/bass) and definitely in creeks. Creek behind my house has nearly everything from cats, bass, bluegill, gar, carp, drum and a few more I’m forgetting to mention. Night crawlers are always there to have my back in case my lures aren’t making the cut.
I was river fishing and caught a 5 pounder on a worm and bobber.
Why do I catch so many bass on rubber worms then?
He just did it wrong.. Lol
Because your not jiggling it as much as this guy.
Because if imitates crawfish or injured baitfish. Read Jones book called Knowing bass
Same, I do prefer senco rather than finnese worms though
Yeah, plastic worms are my highest percentage bait really.
God bless everyone and love god and everyone so much amen 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤❤
Take the Senko Worm cut small slits every 1/4" on up one down then up then one down..See what happens.
They keep live worms in their mouth much longer, lots of times they immediately spit the plastic before you can even react to the bite.
1:34 it looks like the bass has a piece of fishing line coming out of its mouth
It does I saw that too
Shalyn Keeler he does
I saw that too
facts, seems to still have the line from a bait and artificial lure that it fell for recently. which means the hook and the bait are still in his mouth and or gut and he is more wary of whats seems to be real or not.
Bass are opportunistic feeders and often bite out of instinct. Not sure if they care what a plastic worm resembles, they just think it looks scrumptious! Cool video 🤗 really great footage
Yeah I wonder if they really don't care what it is, just that its something moving along the bottom
I mean, this video shows theres at least some degree of care.
I once caught a bass with a bird in it's throat.
Seriously... I dropped everything including my baby to watch this underwater footage... Lol.. Nice one bro...
Lol please hold your baby
@@TylersReelFishing LOL
Tyler, I have watched MANY of your videos. Brilliant job, my man! This video-study specifically caught my attention because for YEARS I have been asking myself "is this the best they got?". Meaning, plastic worms look great, but they sure as heck are not fished to resemble an earth worm. I'm now 51, married, 4 children. I started a fishing lure company on the side called SPECTRUM LURES. Haven't launched my site yet, BUT my very first lure that is complete is called the CURLIN' WORM. Buddy, I figured it out. I really did. When it's ready to send, YOU are one of the first people I will send this to. Me and my boys are killing it with this new lure. Even our youngest Matthew (9 yrs) who is on the autism spectrum is catching nice 2 pound bass with it. I'll be in touch...soon!
Keep in touch... looking forward to that!
Thats mean fish aren't stupid that much .
Yeah my problem with fishing with live worms is exactly that, the smaller fish which are more plentiful love them and get to the live worm more frequently than the larger ones do.
It’s an interesting experiment for sure but the fault is that bass are particularly picky eaters. For instance the color plastic work you were using was the same color as the surrounding vegetation and that’s a big no no with largemouth. You have to present something that absolutely grabs their attention and stands out. Largemouth bass have very good eyesight and see in color just like we do, so when fishing in an area with a lot of vegetation and bottom scum like you saw in the water you were fishing, you want a lure that stands out against it. The color of your lure is the first thing the fish will notice and it needs to stand out against the structure and vegetation you’re fishing into and around. Also you weren’t really using the worm right. Sometimes you have to induce an anger strike. Which means basically annoy the fish until it decides to eat what’s bothering it. As well as simply recasting into the same spot over and over. Putting a bait into the strike zone and keeping it there is key.
I catch fish on worms all the time is this not common??
fake or real worms?
Real
Same
On Lake Geneva in Wisconsin, you almost have to use live bait to catch bass, due to the fishing pressure.
Nice video
Live bait trumps all. The only advantage you get from soft plastic worms is the bluegill and other annoying species won't steal your bait.
Dropshots aren’t the only way to use worms maybe if u went weightless your worm wouldn’t have just been floating around and looking unnatural
Ok but you also have to consider how many times this one bass has probably been caught on artificial worms.
After a few times being caught they do become weary.
kid riglar exactly when I get a house with land and a pound I'm going to drop a bunch of worms in so they don't get as worried and become more careless
@@Dbf1339 good for you

Bass will eat anything that harms it’s nest so💁♂️
Being that i caught one today on worms, I would say yes they do.
1:34 The bass has fishing line coming out of it's mouth. The reason it didn't bite may be because he has a hook in his mouth.
No, it’s an old stringer that his mouth grew over. I didn’t have any scissors to cut it out
Try using a zoom red shad with a split shot, that’s the most effective artificial worm in my opinion
I’ve never caught a single thing on a soft plastic worm, only ONE tiny bite before and it was probably a catfish.
For me, using senkos or yum dingers weightless wacky rigged catches tons of fish. Just jerk it a couple times in a row, stop for a few seconds, then repeat. Works really good in ponds. Works well when it’s warm out too.
@@athrty1911 I thought the same thing until I did the same tbh. Weightless Wacky rig is amazing. Its my go to when things get slow.
Ive caught plenty of bass on worms
Presentation on the finesse worm is all wrong tho bass will hit it on the drop
Sebastian Garrido agreed
honestly, the real worm looked more pink in the water, I'd give a pink trick worm a shot
this is truly insane to see this live underwater footage. Great video tyler
just caught a bass today with some night crawlers. caught 3 but not rlly that big sadly. But its official bass love worms :D
At my grandparents pond I could just put a worm on a bobber and a bass would bite it every time
They probably fished and release there so much that the fish have learned that it’s a win win situation, u catch and get to hold the fish, they get free food
I love using live worms

Do bass eat worms? Is this a first grade question?
Personally I think that worms most closely resemble freshwater leeches that are found pretty much everywhere. Up here in my part of Canada, we catch tons of bass on both leeches and worms. Depending on the water levels, springtime flooding or just high water in general will wash worms into the system as well.
Yes I have caught a smallmouth with a live worm
Epic!
Real bait always beat artificial any day of the week.
Awesome video Tyler. Love the concept of seeing them in action underwater. Great way to learn.
I will always stick to nightcrawler worms when fishing bass cause I always catch a nice size bass off a full one. Considering I never caught or know how to fish off lures 🤷🏽♂️(* update it’s been 2weeks and I’ve caught some bass off a sparkling rubber minnow!)
Very interesting!
One beautiful may morning at sunrise I decided to go to fishing at the creek. But this time I planned to take my lawn chair and fish with a bobber and nightcrawlers and kind of relax. I usually throw a rebel craw. Anyways it was a great day. I caught several decent little smallmouth, 2 nice channel cats, 2 yellow belly catfish, and some bluegill all in the same little spot. I went through all 24 nightcrawlers so I didn't do too much relaxing. It was just such a beautiful spring morning I'll never forget.
Tyler: wins fishing tournaments
Also Tyler: Do bass actually eat worms?
gotta have it both ways haha
TylersReelFishing On a reel note congrats on all your success bro keep it up 👍🏿
Those Damn bluegill are professional nightcrawler theifs. But anyway yeah I have a friend that is a semi pro bass fisherman and he religiously uses nothing but plastic worms with much success. I personally hate using plastic worms or tubes. I prefer crankbaits, roostertails, rebel crawdads, and topwaters. I recently discovered the whopper plopper. They cost 16 dollars a piece but so worth it. First time trying it I caught the biggest smallmouth of my life. Its a topwater bait that looks like a big shad and the tail spins like a freakin high powered fan it's unbelievable how well They are made. They absolutely cannot resist it unless they are just totally inactive that day. Ya gotta look up the whopper plopper. In the last two years I've only had two unsuccessful days with it. Unbelievable.
Another great underway footage video and great commentary.
Thanks!
I need to up my worm game. Thanks for posting! Check out my latest couple of vids catching kayak bass and electric scooters in Los Angeles lol.
Awesome video Tyler! Keep them coming!
I love seeing fish underwater they just look so stupid
This is your best series ever!
when people around me cannot get a bite with Senko's that's when I pull out my secret box with nightcrawlers and I out-fish them every single time 10:1
This was absolutely amazing to watch dude. Thanks for the video!
I caught a Bass using corn while fishing for Carp once.
done that just yesterday carp fishing, caught my first mirror on 1 rod, then a few minutes later i see my bite indicator on my other rod doing weird stuff.. basic adult sized bass hit my carp rig with a corn puff on the hook and oats pack bait.. i almost think that what happened was a little fish was pecking away at the corn puff and the bass got a little more than he bargained for while trying to eat one of the little fish..... i have no idea.
Awesome video! I️ never would have thought about wacky rigging a live night crawler
Should have just dropped a live worm in front of the camera without line or hook to show if they truly will eat a live moving worm off the bottom
True
Looking forward to all the videos!! #bassweek
I always thought fake worms worked better when the fish are aggressive not just cooling it in their bed
Nice makes me think really hard about those Robo worms real skinny like a real worm
Live baits will almost always work WAY BETTER!!! Then cranks, spinners, or soft plastics. Live crawdads, worms, frogs, and salamanders/water dogs work light years better. BUT! They aren’t always easily accessible.

SIX HUNDRED AND TWO DISLIKES??? Who the heck dislikes real science? Who dislikes finding out that rubber worms are no good? I loved this video and hope to watch more in this vein.
in the first fishes mouth there was fishing line
This is one of those situations where you need toswitch up your presentation. Should have tried another worm with more action instead of a stick worm. Cool video though
I’ve caught 5 pounders with worms
Nick !!!!! I caught a 6 pounder on a worm
This is awsome just subscribed and u make me feel live bait works way better 👍😋😋
Thanks!
No problem keep doing what u doing cause I feel I don’t wanna buy any exapensive lures
Yes a worm is the best bass bait known to man
What is surprising about this? It's common knowledge that bass eat worms...
This is why I very rarely use lures. It’s been a long time since I caught a fish on artificial, about a year. But, whenever I use livebait the hook up ratio seems much higher and much more productive
Yeah, you just gotta present the live bait as natural as you can. Otherwise the bites no better than artificial.
I breed my own earthworms for bass fishing but I do use mostly artificial lures to be honest. I like farming and growing things as well so it covers all bases lol. Bank and kayak fishing is my jam. 😏
You didn’t even put the fake worm on right 😂😅
During spawn, a bass will eat ANYTHING if you throw it close to them enough times. It's a reactionary defense strike. Nice underwater footage though.🤘
Video was great nice job, however I think what was mist was the different profiles. My years of experience tells me the reason was profile not so much bait. Just my observation, good video though, thank you.
I caught my pb smallie on a live worm with a spinner..
I use live whole nightcrawlers fishing lakes in Washington state mostly Long Lake Kitsap County my father-in-law uses plastic worms and I out fish m321 but he says that it's equal I don't think so
I've probably caught most of my fish on worm tbh so this isn't even a question.
Dude your picture is amazing lol!!
The fish like 👁👄👁
Shoulda used a color closer to real worm
If you can't catch a bass with a live nightcrawler then you should probably find a different hobby.
I'd would have liked to seen you use other colors if not other type of plastic worms there is also the fact that creek fish have different feeding behaviors than lake fish mainly due to lake fish having to swim to the bank for food and will attack anything that has swam away from the bank.
I have already got to bass for I watch this video on a worm alive one
Exactly
Thank you so much for this vid it helped me catch some big bass
