Hunter Taylor Fish have the least developed/most simple nervous system compared to amphibians and mammals. Mice can essentially feel pain the same way a human can.
So, I've watched the lizard, minnow, crawfish and worm videos. What I've learned is, I need to leave the tackle bag at home and start using live bait.....
Those are salamander larvae, which are amphibians, not a reptile like a lizard. And axolotls are native to a lake in Mexico. So these amphibians you have are probably the larvae of a native salamander or maybe they are axolotls. But these are not lizards not even closely related. Birds are more closely related to lizards than amphibians.
Axolotls:Yay We’re being adopted! Tyler:Bass should genetically be wired to eat these things. So let’s get these things down in the beds, and get started. Axolotls:
Catch_Em_All_Fishing salamanders are found in the woods under set rotted fallen trees and logs. anywhere where it's moist. this kids is using newts, they are found in creeks under rocks. or you can easily order them on line.
Edward Thayer they are mud puppies aka Waterdogs. They are fully aquatic salamanders, so you won't find them under any logs. Newts are also fully aquatic but have internal gills. They still aren't newts.
This video gives a real perspective of how the fish feed which explains why it's very important to wait a couple of seconds before setting the hook no matter the bait. Thanks for this.
Epic footage Tyler. Your underwater footage is second to none. It seems most of this is filmed in the river, some lake largemouth might react or behave differently? I would be interested in seeing some of that. Keep it up kid, you've earned my sub.
Have you ever used a Shimano Curado k and if so what Lews reel would you say compares to it most ? I own 3 Lews and 1 Curado ( ps we use to fish with lizards and Newts back in the 90s as kids)
I actually lived this today. I was bed fishing and it seemed that one bass would literally just play reverse fetch the whole time. He grabbed every bait I had by my tail. The only way I was able to catch this bass was to change to a creature bait and let it float down weightless. Another bass on a different bed, using the same creature bait, just swallowed the dang thing without hesitation.
I would have liked to see you actually use the soft plastic lures vice live bait. I am researching whether bass “prefer” soft lizards over worm lures which is why I watched the video.
@@rexsweatyzzzz9104 no they're not, axolotls are already critically endangered so no shops are gonna sell them as bait. He used tiger salamander larvae as bait.
those were once referred to as " Waterdogs " here ( Calif) haven't seen them in years.... heard they were outlawed. they worked extremely well on cats and bass
Hi Tyler, why aren't you putting the hook closer to the tail? It seems they are striking there and having the hook in the tail causes the bait to try to swim away from it and they struggle more.
Here in Utah there are tons of lizards (scaly land dwelling) they soak up sun on the rocks and cliffs and they fall down into the water and every thing from smallys to stripers eat them up, I have seen that whole process with my own eyes
i would of love for you to throw a soft plastic lizard after some of these fish hit the real lizard just to see what they would do. Especially the one that didn't bite while the hook was in the real lizard
Clay clay Gay gay Sounded like a good idea. Im curious what would of happend. He just trying to help out Tyler I don't think he ment it the way you put it.
I think lizard imitations work in most cases not because Bass think they are a lizard but more so striking as the wriggling action of all the appendages excites them with visual attraction plus vibration. So many lures do not even resemble any living thing but work well.
I like how the bass hit the weight first towards the end of the video. I always weight a few seconds before my hook set. Been fishing a very long time and only throat hooked a couple of fish.
TylersReelFishing absolutely! Not sure if you will see this response, but I was thinking how cool it would be to do another TH-cam Texas Bass Tournament. You, LFG, and 2 others Versus The Googan Sqaud. Just a thought. God Bless, Tyler.
Ok lemme break it down, that "thing" is called a "waterdog" and it is the larvae stage of a tiger salamander. Once the water in the dogs environment becomes low they go through metamorphosis and their gills disappear and they form internal lungs and turn into a tiger salamander. Now the "axolotl" looks very similar to a waterdog except an axolotl does not ever morph into anything it just stays the same never going thru metamorphosis, hope that helps. Now as far as fishing, we used to slay giant catfish and bass back home in Arizona with them slimy little buggers.
I'm a little late to the party, but as everyone said those are amphibians. Salamanders and newts have aquatic larval stages and are pretty easy prey for fish. One of the reasons they say salamander baits are good in the spring is thats when adults come into ponds and streams to breed and lay eggs. If you go into streams that are too small for fish or ponds that dont have any fish in them, you'll often see tons of larval amphibians because theres a lot less predators.
suggestion for future videos in this series. instead of using a different style of bait for your control (like the jig in this video) use a couple types of the real critters soft plastic imitation as a control. for example in this video you could have thrown 2 different brands of lizards to see how the bass reacts on the fake vs. real bait as well even if its on the same fish without hooking it. great video man!
Dude I watch everybody but what you share is truly amazing It just so happens you have decades to build your channel too Adding to the vids and re-releasing by making a small series of your favorites/most popular would be genius Well done, young siR. Hopefully people see this, those are called Axolotls which are native to one single lake in Mexico. Theyre also an endangered species in the wild (the pet trade has helped to keep them alive). Theyre also not lizards but amphibian larve (think tadpoles) and really should not be used as actual bait.
How about Creek Chubs? Bass will eat them year round, and even prefer them over bluegills. Creek chubs are soft and slimy like your lizards, they have no scales or spiky fins. I sometimes set them 6 inches below a bobber and watch some explosive hits. I catch my chubs in the river that feeds our lake. I catch them on a really small jig, put them in my bucket then head for the lake. Also, the lake I fish in has "golden shiners" another favorite of bass, but northern pike like them even more, so you must have a wire leader on your line.
Sam Tate I hope you are joking. Axolotls are not naturally white or pink. The ones in captivity are white because of pigment mutations that have been inbred over and over. This is because the white ones are more desirable for aquariums. If you are so certain, what are they?
@@BlaiseByrd k, well, the one in the video is not an axolotl, it's a mud puppy, or some other salamander native to the USA, not Mexico, and it's definitely not endangered this is nearly exactly like it th-cam.com/video/o4ZeJAzQdlc/w-d-xo.html

TylersReelFishing they're called water dogs
TylersReelFishing do live shad
Lizards are not slimy, they are dry. You are referring to salamanders and mud puppies.
skeeter799 thanks for clearing that up for people
I have a pet lizard and he is the opposite of slimy
Tbh I'd feel bad using these guys as bait. Idk why but frogs, mud puppies and mice are off limits to stick a hook through for my enjoyment.
Lewis Higgins bro I feel you
whats the difference of sticking a mud puppie rather then a small sardine? Both are moving creatures and one can be harmful to the environment
Hunter Taylor It’s prob just faking nastier

Triple_B_777 close enough
Colorado Duck Hunter not close at all
jack moore agreed
Triple_B_777 there are many different salamanders. Mud puppie is a salamander but just a different species. You were close
TripleBsOutdoors it’s not a salamander it’s an axolotl.

would also love to see this live bait reaction done with mice, if possible
That first live lizard looks like a catfish when it’s on the bottom
It does
Wow. Excellent footage. It is really telling when you see the bass see the hook and avoid the hook.
Exactly
