I returned to the country that nearly killed me a few years ago to give it a second chance, would I regret the decision? Well I flew here to find out if maybe it was a bit more calmer this time and not as chaotic but I soon realised this was not the case! Welcome to Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh!

I have just arrived in Dhaka for a three week holiday. This is my fourth visit to Bangladesh. Many of the places you visited in this video are familiar to me. I love the hospitality and friendliness of the people and have made many friends who have asked me for nothing just friendship. Amazing country and people.

@@Contractor48why you say so? There were tourists visited my family while I was living in bangladesh and we were nice to them. Many visited us for a longer periods but we never treated them bad. Why would we treat our guest badly? Bangladeshi people were always known for great host.

What you said is so true - you get to a new place and just drink in the sights and sounds (and smells), but after about two hours in developing countries it becomes more stressful than pleasurable. The novelty quickly wears off and you are left with the reality. I've done a lot of solo travelling over the past fifty years and visited over 60 countries, but I'm too old and knackered now to put up with the hardship and deprivation, and too poor to be able to travel in Business class and stay in four and five star hotels (I'm 6ft 4ins tall so long haul airline economy class is no longer something I am prepared to endure). But hey, I still get vicarious pleasure from watching you young'uns visit these places and I don't have to smell what you smell, nor put up with the oppressive heat and humidity. And the unremitting cacophony. As for strangers'' bowel movements smeared all over your shoes and trousers, I would probably just saw my legs off from the knee down. Safe travels Ben!
Yeah, Bangladesh would be beyond my capacity for chaos. I'm was too old. I like seeing it though and you do some gritty stuff, so I get to see more than the tourist stuff. Great job and thanks!

You should visit the Northern side of Dhaka city. And then you can visit Coxbazar,Chattogram,Sylhet,Rangamati.

Glad to see you're giving Bangladesh another chance ! I got food poisoned twice in bangladesh, the second time I was projectile vomiting and going for a no.2 every few minutes. Aprocin for a week followed by ORSaline and nothing but bananas and boiled plain rice help me recover after a week. But my immune system taking a hammering like that triggered other underlying issues that I had. I'm still going back next year though ! other than that it's an amazing place. I just got to be careful about eating in excess, eat to survive over there and be very picky.

When eating, always pick a nicer upscale place.. You should be okay. Also bottled purified water is a must. And do nor eat something that you are not used to.. Entirely new type of food upsets the system even if it is clean and properly prepared..

When you are in Bangladesh, do not eat street food except coconut and peanuts (that are still inside the shells). It is important to avoid going to small roadside restaurants. These are the places where you get food poisoning bacteria from. The pink chicken was not raw chicken, that was actually blood in it - although I am not sure what you meant by pink chicken. I think you ingested the bacteria from some other source like street food or small food shops. I hope this will be a much more enjoyable and safe time in Bangladesh.

Revealing how little Ben packs for a 4-month trip was quite an eye-opener. I went on a backpacking holiday for the first time in my life in June 2023 and brought a nearly full 85-litre rucksack with me, packing a much larger amount of clothes than Ben did - and that was for a 2-week adventure!

Props to you Ben, everyday life, working environments & travel conditions is not easy for many people in the world - a lot of people just don't know. Bengal was one of the richest places in the world before the British Empire drained it & starved the people along with the rest of South Asia & global south - the effects of that still reverberate today. Importantly you recognise the huge hearts of Bangladeshi people ❤
where ships come to die is Chittagong. various ship breaking yards scattered around there and that's where the really massive ships are broken down. it's because the yards there have access to the ocean. those cannot come to shadarghat due to the depth requirement. shadarghat ship breaking is more for smaller boats and ferries.
