Great video, great watch and at the end of the day, you should just wear what you want. The funny thing about this hobby is that the reality is 99.9% of people will never know or indeed care what watch you’re wearing. In general, people comment when they think it looks nice, not ‘wow, is that a 5 digit submariner?´ - never happens. In short, hommage or not, shady story or not, just buy what you like and enjoy it. I will never judge anyone by their watch, I just think that us, as watch enthusiasts, should encourage people to wear them. That’s it. As a watch, original design or not, the OR2 blue bezel is a very pretty dive watch.
Great coverage thanks. I'm more than happy with my Ginault OR 2.0. I measured the thickness of mine at 12.5mm ... .3mm thicker but I think a watch can be too thin. I am happy with my bracelet. The only thing I wish for is a SW200-1b i.e. a true no-date movement for my Ginault which is a no-date version.
Great looking watch and wonderful video review. Bravoooo Ginault! ❤ Only thing which can be improved is clasp. Please sign the clasp and also put some text inside the clasp - all other parts have all detail they needed, only clasp looks like it not belongs to this watch. Also if could clasp be thiner, but then we will lose on the fly adjustment. Please improve the clasp and sold it separately for current owners. 😀
Hi, I have the OR2 -- is the OR 2.5 different? I saw on Ginault website -- I see they distinguish the OR from the OR2, but I don't get the sense they have a model that is an advance from the OR2. Thanks for any info. Great review and video. I would LOVE if Ginault would do a GMT.!! I was surprised by they Yachtmaster homage.
Yes. 2.5 has some minor tweaks/upgrades. It’s not advertised as 2.5 on the website (at least not yet) but current orders have the upgrades. I’m sure a GMT will happen at some point in the future.
Have had it for 3 years. It’s on rotation with other high end Swiss pieces mostly Rolex watches. Love it. If I were to go back, I’d go for the Silence Service.
@@EagleTrue they’re both great. The issue with OR (for me) is that the design is too much Rolex and not enough Ginault. I say that, because I purchased the OR before I got my Sub Hulk and Sub No-Date. It almost doesn’t fit in the collection any more. But if I had the Silent Service, it’d be a perfect addition to the mix.
Probably my next watch...love the inky black dial and ceramic blue bezel insert. NOT sure about the magnified date or maybe the no date version. Q) is the magnified date crystal AS CLEAR and SHARP as the rest of the sapphire crystal? In the video it seems it isn't. I think the Steinharts I have aren't as clear as the rest of the crystal either. Thanks
@@BrokeWatchFanatic Thanks. So, the magnified date version is probably worth it as "the one to get". I want to make the right decision, and can only choose one.
Have the OR2. My only complaint was the ghost position. Heard they fixed that in the 2.5. Just wish they can do a fully lumed bezel. That would be the next evolution and make me buy another one
Great review! Ginault does really seem like a much more premium homage as compared to Steinhart or Squale. Those two have pretty basic clasp designs, poor bezel feel and operation. The only thing I dislike is the printed text on the dial - "Kinetic continuous date", "Precision chronometer", "hand built in America" all feels like it's trying too hard. Also I'm not sure Hand built in America means much. Which America - North or South? Any specific country? It should say USA if that's what it means.
I have one of these Ginault Ocean Rover II No Date purchased this year and received in May 2024.. A very good if not one of the best Rolex homage watches for the money, but I must say the fit and finishing is not on the same level as a Rolex. I really do enjoy my ORII No Date. Anybody saying this watch is better than a Rolex Sub is just flat out wrong.
You’re not wrong. They are definitely not on the same level, but if you factor in the price to quality ratio, it’s hard to ignore. I’m glad you’re enjoying yours!
The fit and finishing of my ORII received late last year is basically the same as a Rolex submariner. Rolex makes over a million watches per year. For their subs the quality control is nothing that special. San Martin even beats Rolex on several points. People need to stop idolising Rolex so much.
@@thegorn - I own a Rolex Sea Dweller 4000 ceramic and I do not idolize Rolex. Quite the opposite. I cannot stand the whole AD thing if you know what I mean. I own a number of micro brands. I will say the Ginault ORII fit and finish is not on par with my Rolex in terms of thickness of the materials used on the bracelet and milling and polishing of the case. Rolex has dead flat surfaces with mirror polish and the ORII case surfaces have waves and mirror polish. Still a very good watch for the money. Still not on par with my Rolex. I wouldn't mind buying one if they didn't have such a shady history with servicing, the origins of their watches, and whether or not their Ginault caliber is actually based off of a Swiss caliber or not.
