My 2 cents. Nobody will use submariner or seamaster to go diving. They will buy a $500-700 Seiko diver for that purpose, so at the end it will be a personal preference.

More brands coming out with textured dials now.

Odd you would say (in same sentence) that you will either love or hate the design then say you don't mind it at all?

I was so close to buying one of these. The bracelet width of 22mm with small taper and poor clasp held me back. Also the power reserve is at odds with the dial and feels out of place. It’s a wonderful watch head and dial. Perfect blend of sports and dress.

How does the wearability and finishing compare to your Explorer II?

If you want to know if a tapered bracelet would improve the SMP, just look at the Lange Odysseus, with similar tank track style bracelet, and you have your answer: resounding yes. Tapering improves comfort and elegance, since it draws the eye away from the bracelet and towards the watch case.

I don't think the clasp should sit at the middle of the wrist as working on an office will be more uncomfortable and increase friction.

I want to buy this watch but I also want the two tone Cartier Santos de Cartier with their new anthracite dial. I want to sell or trade in my Rolex blue dial submariner two tone first. I love both watches but for different reasons and for different occasions.

You need to understand that the Explorer 40 is nowhere near 40mm ; )

Yea talks about having fun, the Omega has more variants to go with and they got quite plenty editions unlike the Submariner keeps timeless piece and more serious. As the owner of the 60th Anniversary Bond SMP i can say this.

That watch is not too small for you. But of you feel it is thats what matters. But its definitely not. Im 6"3 and 235lbs with 7.25" wrists and sold my 39mm Explorer 214270 to buy this back on 2021. Something about the 39mm and new 40mm look off or out of proportion to me. Where as the 36mm looks perfect to me. I also own the Explorer II black dial 42mm and that wears pretty large but is a nice contrast to the 36mm.

I think they definitely should ad the extra clasp on the datejust. I have actually encountered it popping open accidentally. I went to pull my sock one time and the clasp caught my pants and popped. Thank god there’s a deployant 😱

I own the same watch I love it, but yes after wearing other watches over 41/42mm it will feel small at first. For on my 7 inch wrist it fits and feels perfect. I’m 5,6’ so the size will not be noticeable. So I understand that this watch may not suit guys over 5,11’/6ft. Overall size from a distance does matter depending on the individual. It also depends on what you’re wearing. With just a t-shirt it could look small on some guys, but with a shirt cuff, sweater, or sport coat this looks perfect on anyone.I can wear just about any watch. 7 inch wrists are the ideal size for watch brands when designing cases. I can wear a IWC Big Pilot. It fits on wrist but from a far it look ridiculously large for my height. On wrists smaller than 6 1/2 this Explorer is perfect. 7 inches is pushing the limits, again depending if a guy is large or small. I will say this looks and feels almost spot on to the old 36mm Explorer. However this looks more like a slightly refined dressy version of the old 36mm. I mean it looks on you, but try the 39mm. You may like it more. For me the 40mm will work for those who want a large Explorer. The case design is well proportioned but next to a 41mm Sub it looks just as large.

Both watches have a Bond connection. The Sub’s was organic and SMP’s was bought by Omega.

My pick is the Datejust. 😊

The sub is classic, the seamaster is more fun.

This is the only watch where people think they need to an old size it the best. No one says this about the Submariner or Speedmaster. Go into a Rolex AD and they will tell you the 40 outsells the 36 almost 2-1

I own both. Personally the omega is my favorite. Keeps better time, and just feels better made to me.

The difference in the links is huge in my opinion. It's hard to describe how much nicer the new one feels unless you try them both.

For me personally, an explorer 36 with an actual case size of 36.xx (not 35.xx) and 20 mm lug width tapering to 15 mm at the clasp would be a perfect watch. But that’s just me.
