You probably want to replace the expansion valve (common failure point) and drier filter in the condenser when you do this. Most compressor warranties will be void if you don’t do this. Also, it’s important to ensure the compressor has the correct quantity of oil. Finally, you should pull a vacuum for at least 45 minutes, no just 10 minutes. 😉
Very nice...well done. I can't imagine what my dealer would charge to replace the compressor on my 2014 Sonata. My dealer wanted to charge me $569.00 to install a radiator fan assembly. A part that's available on the web for between $100-$150. Yikes. I'm installing it myself. Saving $430.00.
I took my car for something else to the dealership and they told me it was overheating i was like 😳 how's that possible since it wasn't moving past the middle of the gauge so they ended calling the extended warranty and charged 875$ for a radiator fan which it never needed in the first place
I got quoted for $1000. These mechanics.are out of control. This is a part that costs less than $100 for my car and the labor can't be no more than 45 mins. And you wanna charge $1000 just for basically swapping. I was under the illusion that the engine would have to be semi torn apart. I was baffled when I saw how easy it is to fix smh. This is definitely not a $1000 job.
Thank you soo much man! This video was great, but to get this done it would really help to have a video in how to Vacuume and recharge the Ac system, talk prices brads the whole deal. Look forward to seeing that video, soon as it's there I get to work on my AC.
All OEM compressors come ready to install. No oil needed. Don't buy remans or cheap aftermarkets. Visit Bizauto on ebay for wholesale prices on o.e compressors.
Awesome video! I need to replace the a/c compressor on my 2011 Kia Forte Koup. The compressor is the same and it's mounted the same exact way. Your video will me me big time. Looks to me about about an hour job.
Seems fairly simple. Thanks for sharing. My only concern I guess is getting the free-on out and how to remove the belt exactly and replace it. I saw it was a simple ratchet turn but hard to tell. My Sonata barely cools at all anymore. It used to cool once you gave it throttle after a while. Now takes forever and never really gets cold. Tires Plus told me it was the compressor. Do you agree?
It sounds a lot like what was going on with this video. To see the diagnosis: th-cam.com/video/hxHxCVrbixI/w-d-xo.html To change the belt: th-cam.com/video/KMiOXVwPp6Q/w-d-xo.html
There is a oil drain plug on your old compressor take it off measure how much oil comes out take the same plug off the new compressor drain it out as well measure it there's a good chance it will be the same amount? If so you can pour that right back into the new compressor tighten up the drain plug you're ready to go. If you're not sure how much oil was in the old compressor just drain all the oil out of the new compressor and put in 2 oz.
Great video. Question. If you have small particles in the system and you flush it out do you need to add more oil than what came in the new compressor since there was probably some oil sitting in the condenser or evaporator that you just flushed out. Thank you PJL
How much oil do you add to this compressor or did it already come with oil? Do you pour it right into the compressor before installation and thru which port? Thanks

While I'm in there should I replace the condenser too? They are cheap and if there is something hidden in there from the old one it sure would be better to bypass the possible reed valves or aluminum shavings. What about the receiver and orifice tube shouldn't it be replaced too?
Definitely replace the condenser as well. I think these are parallel fins so a lot of times, material from a failed compressor get lodged and can't be flushed like the old condensers. You can usually buy a whole A/C kit from RockAuto that comes with compressor, condenser, expansion valve, and o-ring kit.
Thanks for the video. I have my 2011 at the dealership now and they said my AC is not working because the solenoid needs to be replaced. Do you have a video for this? I am not sure where it is located. Does the refrigerant need to be removed to do it?
Hello: I bought a salvage title 2014 Hyundai Sonata with 45K miles on it. At 56K miles a blinking engine light came on. The dealership diagnosed it finding that the engine was one that had been machined wrong while it went out of normal calibration, so it was a recall that was covered even though I had no warranty. So the engine just got replaced, but they called to let me know that the reason the A/C stopped working was because of a leak from the discharge hose. That hose costs about $30, and they charge over $500 for the job. I have done things like that in the past, but don't want to get into a full days work with a lot of removing of parts and components. But, if the A/C compressor can be left intact, or if it is not too hard to do the job without a ton of other difficult parts removing, then I will venture. Any advice? Thanks! I really like your videos! Merry Christmas!!
Hi. Any trick/method in separating the a/c lines from the compressor if they are corroded in place? Can you apply heat to them or should you try a penetrant oil? Thanks. :)
now only if u had a video of showing how to get the new compressor to work after swapping it out! i swapped mine out on the 2011 sonata cause the pos would only get cold ever once it a blue moon so i did just as u did and added freon but it would even hardly take any freon and shows its in the red on the can so im assuming the dam compresser is'nt even coming on at all to take in the feron! says it hold 25oz but it def didn't take that maybe like 6 or 8oz.
Thank you for the video bud you made it easy to understand, one question though, I have always heard that when you replace the compressor you should change the dryer as well, is this correct or BS? Thanks again

Hi Carlos, I've a Hyundai Sonata 2013. I've this rattling noise but only on low rpm, it disappears as i accelerate past 50 kph,but I've noticed this noise is particularly heard when ac is on. Do you think it is the alternator pulley or the ac clutch. My mechanic says it is the 'dynamo pulley', and it seems i can't buy it separately and it comes along with the entire unit. I think he is referring to the ac compressor, am i right? Please advise
Sounds a lot like what was happening with this car. However, it could be the Thermal Expansion Valve. Watch me diagnose it on this same car. th-cam.com/video/bG9dtZAVKTg/w-d-xo.html
Does a 2011 Hyundai Sonata have a clutchless compressor? Compressor runs whether if the AC is on or off. But I don’t get no cold air and the low pressure line doesn’t get cold at all. Any thoughts?
Hello man this was a great video now I have a question for you so I am having some what of an issue when the car is in idle of it not cooling like it would running and I just took a road trip and I am having the issue of it not blowing the same cool air like when I initially started driving it seems to like cut off the power and the cool air .
Not sure if you still respond or even check the comments section on this video but i’ll still give it shot. Got a 2011 Sonata and the AC is hit and miss. Some days blows cold some days blows hot air. Any tips on what could it be ? Anybody ?
Tom S i fixed mine 4 months ago and i ended up spending just 40-50 $. It blows cold and i’m really happy. This is the link that i used and i saved lots of money by not changing the compressor. th-cam.com/video/ZjJRgbAugpw/w-d-xo.html Hope it works for you as well. Just let me know
Tom S let me know because i ended up changing 2 valves but i dont remember how i called the other one but i can send you a pictures if you leave you phone number or email here
No an ac tech. But . If you put a new ac that came with oil but you properly put vacuum on the system to remove residue and moisture. There should not be any oil in it. So always fill and weigh oil as well as refrigerant
Nice job on the compressor removal.... but you did waaaay too much work with that panel removal. You took it apart in 3 pieces.. and all you had to do is remove the front panel under the bumper... and the two major one's just the 6 10mm bolts..and the 4 Phillips screws on the sides... and the whole 2 pieces comes down as one unit. Other than that.. spot on with the actual compressor removal 👍🏻😎

Does the new compressor come with oil in it or do I have to fill it? Thanks!
Thank you soo much man!

I agree. I am working on them. I am making videos as the opportunities arrive.
Thank you so much for the video, God bless you.
Awesome Video! But why didn't you put PAG oil into the compressor?
Compressor came with oil already & dye already. Double win!
All OEM compressors come ready to install. No oil needed. Don't buy remans or cheap aftermarkets. Visit Bizauto on ebay for wholesale prices on o.e compressors.
Happy to find your channel. I need a channel like this to explain in detail. Thank you. Subbed.

Thank you so much for an amazingly informative video . Appreciate it so much
They trying to charge me 1100
Great video. I appreciate you taking the time to make and post it.
Thank you for watching.
You guys should also be checking the amount of oil in the compressor. Removing the unused portion

Bro I need some help trying to find out the high Pressure vale for a 2012 Hyundai eletra or is it called something different
You are awesome and just saved me hundreds of dollars, thank you!!
Bless it man. That shit was literally just unplugged
Glad I watched this very well explained process thanks for the great video

what was the fix?
Thank you for the video bud you made it easy to understand, one question though, I have always heard that when you replace the compressor you should change the dryer as well, is this correct or BS? Thanks again
Yes is recomended and for this hyundai the dryer is the all condensor and is cheap $50 $60

What made you replace the whole compressor and not just the compressor control valve.

What happen if you over tight the ac xompressor bolt? I over tighted the bolt and now I hear like a weird sound after I tuen off the car.
Is there enough room to just replace the AC coil on 2009 Hyundai Sonata 2.4L?
Good video dude. Thanks for the info.
You are welcome. Thanks for watching.
Did you feel the high pressure came out with oil when you pull out the 2 pipes?
You think the 2010 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 sedan is the same steps ? And is that belt the main one that goes around the engine or it’s own separate belt?
Hey. Very helpful video. Have a quick question. I own a 2011 Sonata SE 2.4L. Which compressor would be the right fit and can i buy it online?
Yes you can. RockAuto.com is a great place for finding parts for you car.
Thank You Much, very helpfull
Than you for watching!
Anyone have advice for getting the low pressure line re installed to the compressor? It seems like my radiator fan cover is in the way.
Hey bud, is this a similar process for replacing the compressor in a Hyundai Veloster?
Is it necessary to replace ac radiator with compressor
The procedure how to remove the air pressure of the 2 pipes how did you remove them?
Great video!!!
Good job man thanks
which error cado do you have when was in diagnostic? i have B1801 - it's thinks i will replace by the new a/c compressor?
I have 2009 Hyundai Sonata 2.4 liter engine. Can I replace the AC Compressor clutch without removing the compressor?
Hi how much peg oil is in new compressor
Great video. Thank You
hi, I have a 2013 sonata at idle a/c warms up but in park if accelerate it gets cold what could be the problem?
Sounds a lot like what was happening with this car. However, it could be the Thermal Expansion Valve.
Watch me diagnose it on this same car.
th-cam.com/video/bG9dtZAVKTg/w-d-xo.html
my wife's 2012 sonata is starting to do the same, im glad i came across this video
Good for both engines?
Was this compressor the problem or was it something else?
It was the problem indeed.
what is the name of the lower a/c line? the fatter one?
So u didn’t need to add oil to the new compressor before installing???
Does a 2011 Hyundai Sonata have a clutchless compressor? Compressor runs whether if the AC is on or off. But I don’t get no cold air and the low pressure line doesn’t get cold at all. Any thoughts?
Did you get it fixed ? I have the same car doing the same thing

its the compressor, replace it, also replace the xpansion valve and dryer to be safe
How can I get a hold of you for a repair on a Honda crv
Hey bro is it the same for a 2017?
WOULD THAT BE THE SAME FOR 2009?
It should be yes.
What about a new filter dryer?
I'm getting charged $650 for parts and labor to do this. Is that a good price?
The place I went to try to charge me $1650 so yeah, I'd say so
1300 at the dealership
1700 at Brakemax in Tucson
Are you in South Florida bro?
Do you replace the drier as well when you replace the compresor?
your supposed to change the dryer and expansion valve also, but i think he knows that tho
Not sure if you still respond or even check the comments section on this video but i’ll still give it shot.
Got a 2011 Sonata and the AC is hit and miss. Some days blows cold some days blows hot air. Any tips on what could it be ? Anybody ?
I have a 2011 with the same issue. I got a recharge and it’s still not working. I’m betting it’s the compressor. Did you get yours fixed?

Why didn’t you replace the desiccant bag
