Gold Conversion Coating For Aluminum

Alodine 1201 is a Nonflammable, chromic acid-based, coating chemical that will produce a chrome conversion coating on aluminum and its alloys. The coating formed by Alodine® 1201™ is gold to tan in color and it becomes a part of the aluminum surface. This chrome conversion coating offers the best affordable substrate for both paint adhesion and corrosion resistance. Can be applied by brush or immersion. For immersion use, dilute 30% Alodine 1201 to 70% water. Use at room temperature. 1 Quart treats approx 100 sq ft

30 years back it was affordable, used to do large yachts, acid wash, hose off, then apply with a PLASTIC garden spray pump

I'm replacing the foam in the bottom of my 1986 smoker craft sled, and I was told to use (alodine) but it looks like they coated the raw aluminum with maybe some kind of paint. I do not see any corrosion.

It wont work on raw aluminum .that aluminum in the video is treated

Alodine is actually specifically for raw aluminum. It’s how you create a corrosion resistant surface in marine and aircraft applications.

it is always used on raw or non coated aluminum i worked in the aircraft industry for many years treating parts before painting
