Use high voltage (like 6 vdc) when charging the electrolyte. Use low voltage (like 1 or 2 vdc) when plating. The lower voltage will make the electroplating take longer but you will get better results (more even, more durable, nicer look).
Hi. Nice video. With brass it doesn't work, since brass is an alloy (copper + zinc) and so there isn't "pure brass". By using brass as anode material the cathode is coppered, being copper less electropositive than zinc. If you want a far better coating, use a weaker current, a larger container and turn the object to be coated every 30-60 s. With a lower current it will take much more time, but the coating will be much more compact and homogenous.
You dont need all this voltage. Each element has the specific eletronegativity. To see it you can looking for eletronegativity table. The brass didn t work very well because it is made by two elements: cooper and, i think, zinc. Maybe, if you changing for seconds, dropping the pece a little bit in a cup of cooper and after in a cup of zinc, it can work fine.
Interruptions of the current is also bad for adhesion. Should just leave it until its done. And you want 1 solid layer not multiplied by lifting it up and down = the new layer sticks worse.

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc... the electrolysis will prefer one metal over the other... Extruded aluminium is usually also blended with various other metals. Seems the purer metals plate better.
Aluminium will never work in aqueous solution (water). The atoms of Al are so reactive that they immediately form AlOH (Aluminium Hydroxide) which is insoluble and will fall to the bottom of the container. Brass is indeed an alloy and you generally can't plate alloys. You can plate metals with some impurities though which sometimes is what you want. For example Zinc-Nickel uses 85% zinc and 15% nickel to get a better corrosion resistance than pure zinc alone. Another example is lead (Pb) +/-5% in tin plating to reduce the formation of tin whiskers.
Tip, you dont want bubbles .✌ Also you have to put nickle then copper not the other way around. Some metals allow other metals to bond so this could be a bit misleading.
Remove the nickle by changing the polarity of the electroplating cell or by other means , such as mechanically using abrasives or just plate back over the nickle with copper
I wonder, could this be possible with tungsten? It's resistance against scratch is superb. Could we use Tungsten carbide as source for tungsten (from a drill bit or something)?
When you do electroplating 3 volts works better. Brass is a metal that natcher did not entend to exist. Copper and zinc don't seem to like each other. That is why those metals are used to make batteries. I know you can't plate copper on to a zink plated bolt.
Unlike other metals, Aluminium has a reduction potential of 1.662V which is higher than the 1.23V limit of Water. Thus, Aluminium cannot get electroplated easily with just an aqueous electrolyte. Either something has to be added to water (like Concentrated Sulfuric acid or ethylene glycol) or non-aqueous electrolyte like Ionic liquid or AlCl3 dissolved in Ethylene Carbonate has to be used.
@@romadonganteng4989 well if you don't already have Nikasil solutions you can make your own first by reacting any nickel salt with bicarbonate to form carbonate then reacting that with sulfamic acid to form nickel sulfamate and then get some SiC fine dust as fine as you can sold as grit. Could you make steel or titanium alloy electrolyte solution using this method? Or is that asking too much for electroplating and thermal evaporation of those metals is required?
I donn't think you can. It all depends on "redox potential. " Steel is too active and titanium is too inert. There are limited materials that are neither too active nor too inert to make electroplating work. With the material you mentioned, I think you need to use ionic sputtering.
Steel is very hard to electroplate and there are better methods to get a piece covered with steel, but i would research more into it. I can't say much more
Depends on what you want to plate - and what you want to plate it with. If for example you wanted to plate something with copper, then just try a little copper sulphate. In fact this can be so easy, it will even start BEFORE you connect the power. Aluminium is difficult to plate - partly because it forms an insulting layer very quickly in air (aluminium oxide) and although there are ways to strip this off, they can be caustic (nitric acid will do and so will caustic soda). Caustic soda is easier to get - but care must be taken as it will eat away at the aluminium for as long as it is immersed.
