Kousei couldn't hear what he was playing in that scene you watched. That's why he was sweating. Because he was like OG pianist until her mother died, thats why he wasnt able to hear his own music since then.
also this is after his "wake up", so they've had a first run of the piece already, he messed it up bad (by that point probably sweating) and now it's the 2nd run and he's purely imagining his sound for the first time, so that would require some amount of focus :D
I want to see them review the last song Kousei plays. (Chopin’s ballad in g minor number 1 op. 23) I’m obsessed! I picked up the violin again after years of not playing just so I can get to the point where I can play along to that song with kousei haha.
Ironically people hated Piano no Mori (Forest Piano) because of its 3d animation lmao. I'm really happy that you appreciated as well as i the quality of the 3d while playing the pieces
You should really check out Kids on the Slope. It's more Jazz, but the main character starts off as a classically trained pianist. It's rotoscoped so the drumming animation and the piano playing are spot on. So amazing!
I absolutely loved Forrest of Piano...I thought it was slightly disparaging on the Chinese participant though...but the description of the emotions and Kai's growth was really fun to watch.
My Lie In April made me cry SO hard, I can't watch it ever again. Cheers from Finland. PS. I watch Nodame Cantebile anime once a year cos' it's THE BEST.
For the Nodame Cantabile scenes, I can say as an Animator who studies animation and loves classical music, those aren’t rotoscoped- those are CGI-ed similar to Forest Piano 🤣😅 Motion capture was created in 1919 and CGI was made in 1973 so it’s not surprising for Nodame Cantabile to be using this technology in the anime- which is absolutely awesome of course, taking into account and respecting classical music and it’s musicians in a way by this means. Rotoscoping is mostly for 2D whilst CGI is used for 3D. Nodame used 3D so it’s CGI:D
Im a violinist, and i can say that the violin in ylia was almost completely accurate. Thats a lot to say. Its probably even harder animating a violin, you need to put in the bow AND the fingering, you need to do the string changing, the shifts, the bow postitioning, bow direction, vibrato, bow techniques, aggresiveness of the playing and even the movement of the violinist to match the playing. Us violinists move A LOT while playing. And they did it all perfectly 👏
How dare these mortals make fun of/criticize arima kousei. Obviously I’m joking, but to be fair he’s insanely nervous and hasn’t played in years + he couldn’t hear the sound of his piano anymore…
Gotta watch the rest of these animes for sure... 'Your lie in april' is a goat series hands down so im looking forward to the rest of these. and poor Kousei dont drag the poor boy he hasnt played in 2 years, cant hear the sound and was extremely nervious and traumatized 😢
Yeah I cried at YLIA. Not as much as Violet Evergarden, but it definitely hit hard at the end. I felt a connection with Kousei due to having lost the ability to play an instrument I had played for most of my life at that point. Watching the whole show felt like rubbing salt into an open wound, but at the same time, it was a beautiful experience.
I just discovered you guys a couple days ago and immiedietly started to feel strange connection to you, even though I have no experience with playing an intrument. I'm about to start playing the piano (actually I'm after my second lesson). keep it up guys, I feel very comfortable here. (sorry for my bad english!)
I got spoiled so completely before I watched Your Lie in April. I knew who had what secret, what was going to happen, to whom, when, what other characters were doing and where, and even what imagery was used to convey the event... so of course I bawled my eyes out all the same.
"Thumbs up if you watched 'Your Lie in April' and you cried" - ???? Thumbs up if you watched 'Your Lie in April' and you were able to keep yourself from crying! By the way, thanks for all of the advice on how hand positions affect a pianist's sound. Thanks for the video.
Nodame Cantabile is for me the number one in manga and anime for classical music. You are right, everyone should know Nodame Cantabile, specially those who are studying music. And about Your Lie in April, it is good as well, but the story is more focused in the drama and the cute Kaori than in the music itself. Yeah, you cry, but because of the cute Kaori and the heartbroken Kousei.
I loved the Nodame Cantabile anime from start to finish. Every season was so good. It reminds me of Maison Ikkoku with music playing as the center focus. Gya-bo!!
In Forest of Piano, his shoulders were bouncing so much because he didn't yet know how to play and was pounding the keys. The piano was magically producing music beyond his actual skill.
14:32 It didn't, once you see the whole episode you'll understand They played and because of his problem, i.e he can't hear dhat he's playing after he plays some of the piece. The place where you started watching was when they re-started playing the piece
Everyone is talking about You Lie in April but honestly, at out these, it was my least favourite. Nodame Cantabile is my ultimate favourite anime and it seriously got me consider to pick up piano. Piano no Mori is seriously underrated.
There's _always_ gonna be a bend in the wrist even if you try to keep them flat because your fingers are applying pressure to the keys. It's just biology. Specially in that downward side angle (because your forearm goes to a slope when you play the piano, si ce it's lowe that you, you can't exactly flat that down unless the piano's to you mid chest level). Also speaking as an animator.
Idk if you guys like jazz, but I highly suggest reacting to Kids on the Slope. The Animation is truly exceptional, never seen a musical anime with a better animation than KOTS (yet). I hope you guys will do a video about it, but if you don’t, it’s alright.
I gave this one a "Like", although I owe everyone still me watching "Your Lie in April". One thing that called my attention were the mostly rigid, stony facial expressions. A real pianist's face (even someone's who played as fully relaxed and focused as Arthur Rubinstein) is in constant, small motion. But I guess that this is difficult to achieve in Anime, even with the best software...? Very well observed, great job as always! :)
In Piano no mori kai was playing like that because it was old abandoned piano in the forest which was scustom made. He can't play normal piano. (I'm not pianist) I didn't like the anime but manga was one of the best for me.
I loved every song in Your Lie in April, but Winter Wind is my favorite of them all, of all the Chopin classics actually. It shows sadness and lonelyness soooo well.

Oh, you haven’t watched Your Lie in April, have you? The first half of the show focused on his mental and emotional trauma from his mother being verbally and emotionally abusive to make him be the best pianist ever. He was terrified of playing and couldn’t even hear his own playing. Kaori wanted him to accompany her and he was freaking out because of that, she was depending on him and he was scared of not being able to be relied on by someone he cared about.

Too melodramatic. It's not one of my favorite romantic anime.

Your lie in april had real musicians performing piano+violin and then the animators copied their movements sometimes using a rotoscope.

Ryotaro's lack of wrist rotation in 'La Campanella' is one thing, but can we take a moment to appreciate his hair/jacket colour combo? Phew!
