    It is amazing how quietly an elephant approaches for such a big animal!! Looks like you had an amazing time, I can't wait to get back to Africa myself one day!

    • @NicoleEddy1

      They are incredibly quiet for such a large animal, like ghosts in the bush. Definitely don’t want to accidentally bump into one of them on foot though 🙈

    Thanks for taking us along on that trip! Have been following you for a couple years and gotta say you really stepped up your editing game! Transitions are on point!
    Just a wee suggestion about the animal labels: as someone who watches on a mobile phone (even though this content should be watched on a big-ass TV) they are a little bit too tiny and displaying them just a little bit longer would be cool too.

    • @NicoleEddy1

    I had a 30 minute battle with a pair of Honey Badgers one evening at Orpen. Turned the fridge 180 degrees into the notch and that little beastie still won by slamming it from side to side and walking it out backward finaally got in and destroyed everything. And as you know, Orpen had no restaurant or store............................

    • @NicoleEddy1
      @NicoleEddy1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha, that's hilarious. They are so blimmin' intelligent (and incredibly strong) - we had a similar experience in Etosha where the honey boadgers just wreaked absolute chaos every evening...the poor rangers had their work cut out for them!

    • @NicoleEddy1
      @NicoleEddy1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is very expensive compared to other reserves or the Kruger itself. If you are South African, now is the time as they're running SA specials - the one lodge in the Sabi Sands (Umkumbe) is R2500 per person per night sharing. If you (or anyone) is interested, I'd be happy to organise it with the lodge :)

    This channel is so refreshing - I am not even sure how I landed on Nicole's vids but now I am just going through them like mad. Nicole if you could maybe do a vid on photography and how to get into it as a hobby - I have seen your vids on the editing tutorials but if you could just go into photography/videography (especially videography) - I am looking to get into this as a hobby. I was looking at getting a drone but not sure if this is a good place to start? Or maybe a simpler setup, like a static camera?

    • @NicoleEddy1
      @NicoleEddy1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Welcome aboard & what an awesome comment!
      Hmm, so with regards to videography and getting started, I would first start with getting a camera as opposed to a drone (once you've established that you really enjoy it, and would like to step things up a bit, I would look at a drone). I
      'm not sure if you have a camera at the moment, so great ones to get started with is something simple like mine, the Sony A6000 (with interchangeable lenses) - I would maybe look at a later Sony model, or Blair's Canon 80D is awesome as well. A GoPro is also a great piece of equipment to have, really versatile, good quality, 120fps and can shoot 4k.
      I hope this helps :)

    the fortuner or phumba for long drives across the country??

    • @NicoleEddy1
      @NicoleEddy1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm...tough choice. I love the Defender but the Fortuner is SO much more comfortable & you can actually have a conversation with the person next to you without being droned out by the engine noise. I think I’d honestly choose the Fortuner for a long trip, it’s only ever been reliable since Blair has had it.

    Is Kruger is a lot like an open range zoo?

    • @NicoleEddy1
      @NicoleEddy1  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Cathy :) Perhaps a zoo in reverse, where the humans have to remain in their car cages. But in all seriousness, no not at all. It's an entirely naturally-managed ecosystem with very little human interference. The road networks cover only about 3% of the entire park, so the animals definitely rule the land.

      @@NicoleEddy1 Well, it was my first trip to Africa, we went to Namibia with a 4WD camper. We went from Etosha to the coast, then roughly south till oranje river. It was amazing, especially the animal life. Also, coming from Europe in high Covid when there was virtually nothing in Namibia, and this country is so empty, vast, wide, it felt like so much freedom.

    • @NicoleEddy1
      @NicoleEddy1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh no, please don’t put ill-informed and silly blanket statements like this online without having a clue as to what the local situation is.
      The Safari industry has been shut since March last year with COVID - which means the park & all private & government safari lodges weren’t receiving income to support their staff from the local villages who in turn support their families. This includes chefs, guides, rangers, gate guards, cleaning staff, maintenance, gardening and not too forget the large % of income from each booking that goes toward supporting conservation efforts and enabling anti-poaching initiatives (think of all the employees needed for that too) in the region. So I would rethink your statement - the safari industry in SA is in dire straits so the more people that can support it, the better.
      Don’t be so quick to judge & make sweeping blanket statements without doing an ounce of research.
