- This what a typical day on a self-drive safari in the Kruger National Park looks like from sunrise to sunset. We set off from Letaba Rest Camp and make our way to Mooiplaas for breakfast, we see some crazy sightings, and then head back to camp for a relaxing evening.

Nothing better then self drives in my most favourite park in the world. I love every aspect of Kruger and literally could spend my life just driving around. Love every minute
I can't agree more, just being on your own time and stopping where and when you want is one of the biggest draw-cards of Kruger! Often we'll just park off at a watering hole for an hour with our coffee, and see what comes down for a drink.
Beautifully filmed! Loved it all but especially the marabou storks in flight.
Beautiful video to watch, cover everything. Thank you Nicole!!! Love to see the camps and Picnic spots, especially Letaba and Mopani. My late dad was the plumber when building Mopani Camp. And then he ends up being the caretaker of the camp for many years. He then move to Pretoriuskop and lastly Letaba. He put hart and soul into his work and I can still see him walking between the rondavels. Have very good memories of the Park.

Thanks for that. I wanted to relive my own experiences of driving around the park. I've visited 3 times but not for over 30 years (I'm a Brit). The stories of South Africa's steady decline make me sad. It's such an incredible place. Perhaps I'll get back to the park one more time; but the things I hear make me nervous about heading to RSA again. Perhaps I'm being overly pessimistic. I'd love to see that African sun rising again over the bush. Beautifully shot and soundtracked, by the way. You seem like a lovely couple. I get on well with South Africans (and Aussies, and Kiwis) and often think I should have been born in the southern hem.

We stayed at the second rondawel from the restaurant in the front. Probably No2. Number one pinched their hut from our booking by persuading the lady on duty, then they tried to get us to not use the aircon because the noise bothered them. We spent a Go mag photographic trip & stayed in our tent, there. That's where Ros got her love for photography..

Loved watching this. Went there in 2006 with my best mate and sis as part of a round the world trip going to six or seven countries. We had no expectations at all of South Africa or Kruger but it was epic. When we returned home I asked tne others what the highlight of the trip was and at the same time they both said South Africa, withthe trip to Kruger being a huge part of that .

On the Hyena sighting 👇🏻
Hyenas also often stash parts of carcasses under water, where they are unlikely to be discovered by vultures, flies, jackals, leopards or lions. The fact that the chunk of carcass may continue to decompose under water is not a problem for the hyena. They really don’t care if a carcass is quite putrid when they eat it. A piece of carcass will last longer under water than on land ~ amazing what we learn from nature 😉
KNP is my happy place, but we haven't been for way too long a time. Wonderful to see it through your lens and look forward to your KNP series. Lower Sabie tented camp, Olifants (perimeter), Satara favourites

Fantastic vlog. I enjoyed the detail you’ve included of a typical day in Kruger park. Reminds me so much of the wonderful visits we’ve been so lucky to have had over the years with family and friends, with us coming from UK. In fact all your vlogs have been great, a good blend of narrative with superb video, so thanks for that. Very interested in learning more about the safaris you are able to organise through your business. Maybe I missed the link to a web site in your vlog? please can you post.

I second this! I’ve done the Mphongolo backpacking trail and absolutely loved it - any recommendations on others?
@@blairzoghby3344 The Wolhuter Wilderness trail covers one of the most scenic areas of the park and has a waterhole that is simply to die for. The trail camp is basically built into one side of a stand of trees right next to the waterhole (25 meters or so away) so you gave a parade of wildlife coming and going all day. It’s common to be standing just 10-20 meters from an entire herd of Ellies with only a knee to waist high strand of wire between you and them. We have even seen lions and leopards from camp.
@@joejames4231 amazing! Will definitely look in to booking the Wolhuter trail one of these days! I've got my eye set on doing the Nyalaland trail in northern Kruger first - such a beautiful part of the park.

Hey Raul :) That sounds like a fun trip that you have planned! May is a great time of year to visit the area as you avoid the hot Summer temperatures and high humidity, as well as just avoid the chilly Winter months which typically start in June. With that being said, your morning and evenings will probably require warm clothing, but the days will hopefully be T-shirt weather (even in mid-winter, this is the case in the lowveld region).
Depending on how much rain the bush receives this Summer, it will more than likely still be quite green, but water will be drying up as the rainy months are over. It's hard to say what sightings will be like as you could always see the sighting of your life regardless of the time of year, but visibility is typically best between August-October at the tail-end of Winter when the bush has lost most of it's leaves and game will tend to congregate around central water points.

Hi Nicole. This is a lovely piece of work.This vlog was made the same week my family and I were in the Kruger as well. It was a little windy weekend and unfortunately we could not make any fire. Two questions I have -
1. What is the best times to visit the Kruger in order to see animals better.
2. The best camera equipment especially for photography and good quality videos.
I am an amateur animal video-grapher and want to up my game.

Hey Kagisho :) Thanks so much for your comment & pity about the wind, it’s probably the worst element to have in the bush, but hope that you guys had a good time nonetheless!
1) Best time of year varies wildly & is pretty subjective. The most popular time to go on Safari is July-September as it’s the driest months, there’s no mosquitoes and insects, temperatures are cool, the bush is dry and allows for better visibility deeper into the bush & due to not having had rain for a year, animals tend to congregate around watering holes - so you tend to see more. I personally quite enjoy Feb (it’s the hottest month but also the quietest, and also all of the Summer migrant birds are around).
2) All of my current gear is listed in my description with a link for more details. I’m using the Sony a6600 & LOVE it, Blair uses the Canon 80D which is also awesome. And we share a Sigma 150-600mm lens which has been phenomenal - especially for the price-point.

If you had limited time in the Kruger (let's say a week) how would you plan your route/trip? Would you stick to a certain area or try cover a wider area of the park?
AND
would you rather stay multiple nights at the same camp or see as many camps as possible?
Hmm, it depends where you will be entering from but I would try and move around if possible. Maybe 2 nights at one camp & 3 nights at another - it’s just great to experience different parts of the park & see new habitats, new camps and spend time on different roads.
Another great safari video! Loved the hyenas, beautiful creatures. Gotta catch up on your other recent vids, since I just got back home from SA myself. Videos like these really keep me in safari vibe :)
Oh, and for your full safaris, don't forget to answer the question 'How to braai', that's something I still have to try. But can you find all the equipment in the kruger camps?

Really grateful that you asked for content ideas As an international traveller who normally only travels with hand luggage & stays in private reserves, I have a lot I still want to know that hasn’t been answered by Tripadvisor or similar Vlogs. I’m trying to build up my confidence to do a Kruger self drive! So it would be great to have a Kruger stripped back to basics covering:
How far in advance do you need to book accommodation
When things go wrong eg The Floods closing roads how easy is it to re- arrange accommodation
If the accommodation is faulty eg AC broken or no hot water how easy is it to swap rondavalls?
Length of the swimming pools- can you use them for exercise laps? Can you swim all year round or is it too cold in certain months?
Can you get a tour of the animals & birds inside the camp by staff
Can camp staff organise a bush dinner if you’re willing to pay?
What are the laundry facilities like, what coins do they take, where can you dry your clothes?
Where do you pick up food before entering the park is there anywhere you should avoid
Do any companies offer a complete package of Kruger food & equipment that you can pre-order & take into the park with you?
What food should you buy and what should you avoid if any
How do you keep meat chilled and fresh
How do you keep vegetables fresh what vegetables are best to cook with
Where to buy food and how much does it cost
Can you hire equipment or do you have to buy everything outside the Kruger & bring it in. I’m thinking of things such as:
BBQ
cool bag/box
ice packs how do you keep the ice packs frozen
Thermos flasks
Food storage containers
Cafetière/French Press
Utensils- sharp knife etc
How do you use a brai, what type of fuel, how much fuel to use, where do you buy it? how do you get the fire burning, how do you know when it’s hot enough to cook on, how do you know the brai is clean, how do you cook on the brai, recipes, how do you ensure there is flavour in the food, how do you cook vegetables, how do you know when the food is cooked
Is it worth shopping in the shops inside Kruger or better to leave Kruger to pick up shopping supplies
Toilets- where do you go on a 3 hour game drive
What are the roads like to drive on
How do you drive safely near the animals
How do you get out of a traffic jam if you find yourself in one eg caused by lions on the road
How to judge distances & times so you’re not late
If your car breaks down how do you get help& a new car?
If someone drives into your vehicle what do you do
If behaviour of other guests is not appropriate what should you do
If you get sick where can you get help
Best app for identifying birds & animals

Spectacular production with great wildlife footage to boot! Do you reckon there is a ''best time of year'' to visit Kruger? Grew up in Cape Town, but never been, closest was Hluhluwe on a free day when I was up in Kwazulu/Natal doing my agroforestry masters thesis fieldwork back in the early 90s.
I'm more of a mammal guy, even in the rainforest I spend more time hanging around monkey & tayra etc. sightings than birding, but have had some nice birding experiences, especially at the macaw & parrot clay licks as well as interesting ant-birds, wood-creepers, hummers, toucans & some cool razor-billed curassows & more.
Thx for this one... looking fwd to the tips for Safari from your side; e.g. where do you go for Safari in the Cape Town area apart from (Sanbona and the usual suspects). We're from Europe so don't assume we know it all... thx Hp
You should try a seat cooler...helps with the humid swamp ass! Hyaena are a highly underrated survivor. Actually as is the leopard.

@@nourel-ali2989 No, it's not a bad idea :) Whereabouts are you staying in the Greater Kruger? If you're staying at a lodge, they'll be taking you on game drives twice a day so you won't need to worry about doing self-drives, but all of the private reserves in the Greater Kruger offer the same level of sightings that you would see in Kruger, in fact you might see more, so no need to go in unless you want to check it out.
My trip to S.A. has been postponed for the second year in a row, so I've taken to TH-cam to keep my enthusiasm and anticipation from being replaced by continued disappointment. I am sorry for the political unrest happening in your beautiful country and hope solutions will be found soon. It is difficult for a foreigner to assess how much risk there is to personal security when the news abroad is so negative. Can you perhaps address this in your KNP series? I just subscribed and would be very interested in your opinion. PS....I love hyenas too....they are fascinating to watch in person, especially when there are young ones playing together. Terri -- I'm from the USA and have been lucky to visit Kruger twice. On both trips I had great, knowledgeable female guides and rangers. It appears to me that the more upscale tour companies have clearly gotten the message that their largely foreign clients are happy to see inclusive guide staff. I'm sure Nicole knows of some of the best and most popular female guides.
Hi. If you fly up to Kruger where can one hire a vehicle?
Hi Peter :) It depends where you are staying in the park as to which airport will be best to fly into. The three main airports near the park is Eastgate (Hoedspruit Airport), Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (Nelspruit) or Skukuza Airport (in the park itself).
All of these airports have car rentals available at the airport, although I would recommend booking your vehicle before landing, particularly if you are flying into the smaller Skukuza Airport.
