i already adored this cover but i am now fully convinced you're a lyrical genius, everything here is so clearly thought out and it's incredible. absolutely loved this video, thank you for sharing a bit of your writing process with us!! also, as a fellow choir kid i am living for the dies irae insert, it fits so perfectly both thematically and musically and adds so much extra punch and personality to the cover. keep up the incredible work!
OMG A FELLOW CHORUS KID LETS GGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Seriously though your comments have made me so happy!!! You're so nice thank you SO MUCH!! I think this song, in being so complicated and having so much wordplay in it already, was a shockingly good way to showcase my skills... now I'm worried the simpler songs won't quite live up to the expectations I've set here LOL but I will keep doing my best!! Thank you for being so interested :'D
Even though English is my second language, I often tend to be disappointed with the translations in covers between JP and ENG. People tend to lose meaning in translation or just are too afraid to change words to keep the same feeling between languages. So I could tell 20 seconds into your cover that the way you translated it was purely to convey the same feelings and meaning that were found in the original, and it showed hard. Amazing job and keep up the good work! THIS IS HOW YOU TRANSLATE!
I haven't finished the video yet, but in regards to the "fu" part, I think that despite losing the double meaning in JP, it really brings up the strong image of "F U" in the MV! I actually thought it was an intentional reference to an interrupted "f*ck" or a literal "F*ck U". Eitherway, strong language all around, which matched the vibes well.
Thank you so much!! And yeah, once I saw the MV, I was also like "wait, this is perfect!" lol! The way it's in big red letters is really in your face about it too. So it's kinda like it picked up a new double meaning in English... :D
I was gonna say this too!! I don't mind when people change it and it can fit some people's translations but the fu fits this one so well since due to the other curses I saw it as FU and not just a sound, so it created a double meaning again In versions without cursing I don't think It would and those ones might fit having it be changed more, but it does break the flow
i usually stick to original songs and dont venture much into covers because im so particular about how songs flow, but my god (lol) am i glad i found this one. the explanation and analysis behind your process had me so captivated i didnt even realize the video was almost 40 minutes. your cover has been stuck in my head for the last two weeks and seeing how vibe-accurate the lyrics are while still keeping the flow makes me wish songs had this as a standard.
One of the discussion topics in my translation theories class was on translating lyrics/poems and all that. And I would've definitely used this as my main subject for that topic discussion had this been out 2 years ago. This is so interesting, the translyrics and your process. Literally the best translyrics I've seen since the Japanese production of Elisabeth das Musical.
Genuinely, thank you for this. I really love listening to people talking about their thought process while translating something. It's so unique to each person. Can't wait to see more from you in the future.
@@Jaden_La Omg these comments are so nice, what an honor. Thank you so much!! It's so interesting to hear your perspective, since my knowledge of Japanese is pretty limited (working on it...... slowly......). Despite that, I have always been pretty interested in translation + localization, and how you need to be creative to convey similar ideas in different languages. :D
Awesome lyrics! Your explanations made me love them even more. I personally loved the ad-libs and felt they added impact to the highest highs of the cover.
OMG YES as someone who just started getting into writing translyrics, all of this is really good reference and advice for me, and its also really cool to peak behind the curtain. TYSM YOU ARE SO COOL OMG
This video's crazy underrated woah! I've been watching covers of vocaloid songs for a while but this is the first time i ever came across a vid like that that goes and explains lyrical choices with that depth! The analysis made me appreciate both your cover and the original song even more! The dies irae addition is also so good (godlike, you could say) damnnn 🙏
I'm so happy, about this shit, yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes, tell the people how to do a good fucking meal. Also same, to translate there's so much shit to do and the musical theater streak does help a lot, in top of the storytelling because everything is storytelling also now, sorry your tied into now making a teniwoha adaptation im sorry, it's not that I'm imposing you with it, I'm just the oracle who tells the hero that the call is at the door and it's about to knock
@@Salsi_Kasane your comments have been a delight to read. Thank you for taking the time to share the very kind words with me!! 🥺❤️ And I love teniwoha.... So.... :D maybe I will cover their song!!!
As a guy that just likes to listen to music for the fun of it, Seeing what went into writing a song and especially translating it to English makes me appreciate it this song even more Definitely a boner jam:)
It's a quote from Friedrich Nietzsche, and it means "God is dead". Nietzsche's philosophy was "God is dead and we killed him" (through technological/psychological/ethical/... advancement), so I think in the context of this song, it's supposed to mean something along the lines of "is anyone actually happy/perfect anymore, or did we as the fanbase/community/society ruin that possibibility".

There are so many layers to the song and it shows how much considering tone and intention is important in translation
