To my ears these 3rd Gen Air pods are more comfortable compared to the newer Pro version with the soft gel tips. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxgl8SzyQoymMu-S3V55Dskg5QJ8xr1yCR That said, compared to the 3rd Gen, I notice these do not stay planted in the ear as well. One design issue I think, is you squeeze the stem and click it twice to advance your songs. On 3rd gen you tap the large speaker. The difference is by grabbing the stem each time, you tend to loosen the bud fit in your ear. Not always, but the bud falls out a few times while running. The old tap to change never had that problem for me. I would not have changed that tap function. That said, the newer Pro version sticks in the ear, almost airtight if you want that. @@crimsonamethyst7571 what do you think happens to the stuff that doesn't pass quality assurance tests? They don't throw it away they sell it to third parties super cheap so they can make money off it anyway.
@@crimsonamethyst7571 Without going into too much detail I won't be mentioning some company names. We have an electronics company which produces most of its products in China. We eventually found out that the same company/industrial factory that produces our products is making a small amount of knock offs and selling it to other buyers for cheaper prices. What they don't realize is , in electronics, products are assigned specific wattage for specific reasons , and when the requirements aren't met , these products eventually become faulty when they shouldn't. In the case of enormous companies like Apple , Samsung and etc , the factories producing them make small amount of knock offs . Think about it , when you want to a factory to make a product for you , you send the entire blueprint of the item , from size , print, color , wattage , type of plastic/metal and etc. The factory has all the details of your product , literally all. It is not the making of the fake product that is difficult but in the selling of these products and not getting caught. Because no factory wants to loose a consistent customer , especially the likes of Apple for the sole fact of making a side profit in faking their products. But small inconsistent and new companies that want to manufacture their products have it tough because their products are being copied and sold and there is nothing they can do about it. We have luckily established ourselves and have gotten to the point where it is unfavorable for the factory to produces fake products of ours but it still happens every now and then. There is A LOT to this "faking" of products and many details go into consideration , sometimes it's purely for profit and sometimes its purely for malicious intent. There are even people out there that would buy literally every single product you have , hire an engineer to copy every single thing from your products and mass produce it but slap a different name on it and sell it to YOUR buyers for a very competitive price for the sole fact to scare you away from certain locations , customers , business and etc. Biggest advice I can give is , find a trust worthy factory and work only with them and build their trust , patent the shit out of your products and have a witty lawyer.

Yea, fun not objective stuff though. I doubt artificial ears output: "bad quality" after sampling, my best guess they do give some objective number on sound accuracy.
I wish I had seen this video before I was duped into spending $325.00 on Facebook marketplace on what you refer to as the $150.00 fake version. I have always been very careful with my online purchases. The fake pair I purchased even had a valid serial number label on it. When I looked the serial number on apples warranty checker it came up and showed it had warranty until July of 2024. By the time I realized these were fake which was a few hours after purchase because I had to charge them, the Facebook user was no longer available. This was an expensive life lesson for me. Thanks for sharing your video. Hopefully it can help others prior to making the mistake.
I just got ripped off from FB marketplace too for some Airpod Pros 2 for $80. The fakes are crazy convincing. The build quality, appearance, packaging, etc are almost completely identical to the real thing. It even had all the exact software prompts & settings. And just like yours, it had a real serial number & warranty. The only way I could tell they were fake was the sound quality was horrible and crazy distortion on bass. Noise cancellation didn’t work either. What made it worse was that some snotty nosed geeky white kid who couldn’t have been older than 20 was the one who scammed me. I’m glad I’m only out $80 for them but it sucks that I spent that much and still don’t have any headphones I can really use. Next time I’ll definitely just save up the money and buy them from a reputable store. And I certainly will NOT buy any Apple products from FB marketplace ever again.
@@BayonettaJeanne yeah I’m sorry that happened to you too. I too will save and buy from a reputable store moving forward. We work to hard to waste our money on fake products.
The way I see it is like this. If someone has legit new AirPods, why wouldn’t they return them and get all their money back? Or why wouldn’t they list them on eBay which has buyer protection? If someone’s selling something new for significantly cheaper on Facebook it’s more than likely a scam.

Nah; the Airpods are actually worth the price. In pure audio quality, they are probably worth about $400-450, but the build quality, the way it syncs with the Apple ecosystem and the tech in it justify the extra $100-150.... Most of the people complain about it being over priced are those that can't afford it, android users and audiophiles that only care about the sound quality and nothing else..

i really don’t understand the people who make knockoffs. especially the second one which even has identical packaging. why spend so much time and effort trying to duplicate something? so much effort that is put into trying to have it as identical as the real deal? why not spend those time and effort trying to make your own original idea? at the end of the day, the cheap low-quality knockoff will always be a cheap low-quality knockoff, whereas if it is an original product you came up with, there’s room for improvement and one day you might find yourself success as a big player in the industry you step foot in one day (remember Apple started off in a garage and so did Microsoft) plus the morals of copying someone else’s idea and passing it off, and also potentially scamming an unknowing person into thinking he has the real product! not only is it illegal it is also highly immoral. anyways on a lighter note, great vid Dave!
Difference is that these are tech products and will always be knockoffs because they can’t perform the same. replica shoes still function the same as legit shoes
@@extra4542 There is something called OEM. Big tech company usually outsource their production to manufacturing company in China. The first iPhone was a game-changer. It really changed everything in the field of telecommunications and media. It cost 400$. These earphones are not a gamechanger whatsoever. They cost 550$. But hey, as long as there are enough dummies to buy them, why wouldn't Apple take advantage?
The thing is in the world of headphones, that's not a crazy price at all. That's low-midrange for actually good headphones. But then again, these don't sound like they're worth $500. Apple tax adds all of that
@@JamieVatarga in the world of headphones I can get a $70 wired pair with quality equivilant to $500 bluetooth wireless earphones, also the argument of cable damage makes no sense when there are wired headphones that allow you to simply unplug the cable from the headphone and put another one in, sometimes you even get spare cables with the headphones. Bluetooth may be getting good but I don't think its worth $500 unless you are REALLY into your music and like to run marathons with your headphones on, or if you are getting paid for doing it, but to each their own, for some people $500 on a pair of bluetooth earphones or earbuds is worth it and I think its fine if you are getting enjoyment out of them.
@@heroninja1125 I was more referring to the price alone. The APM are tuned very well compared to most Bluetooth headphones, but in terms of sound I do think something like the AKG K361 for $100 is better. There's so much variation and true for the same price as the APM I'd get something like an Edition XS
This reminds me of the iPad cases I bought from Taobao - while they were claimed as the real one and looked absolutely like the real one, the wear and tear always came just a few months of usage, while ones that were bought from Apple lasted years without much damage. This raises another question - how many people who don't want to pay for the real products keep getting these realistic (but not functionally close) clones, thinking they are the real one, and end up blaming the real products?
Expensive fakes do validate. Basically they buy legit headphones and print its serial number on every fake copy. So when you check on apple website it get displayed as a real one. Have a buddy that got scammed like this with second hand airpods pro. Looked and felt 100% legit until Apple Store visit.
Hey Dave, love the video but I'd like to humbly suggest an improvement. In the headphone sound comparison section, I think it would be better to swap between headphones mid-song to get a better idea of each sounds instead of letting the viewer forget their sound signature in the dialogue in between. This is something that audiophile channels that I watch like Rtings and Dankpods do.
Woa, Dave! It seriously looks as though you had more fun in this vid than many others I've seen - don't get me wrong, your enthusiasm is always infectious, but this just looked like you were having FUN on your voyage of discovery. Great stuff!
someone needs to give him all if these without telling him what one is expensive, i think a lot of this is him saying the expensive one is the best because he knows it’s expensive.
I think the point of replicas is to look like an original, so imo the 100buck ones are pretty solid. We're also not gonna act that the apple ones sound as good as what you pay for them.
I still rather buy Sony’s WH-1000XM4, over a $500 air pods max. And still manages to have perfect clear and bass headphones at only $350, or if I’m lucky. $250 on a sales event
To be fair, when you buy Airpods, you aren't buying them solely for the sound quality, but how it works with the ecosystem, the better building materials and some of the other tech in there that makes it sync so well. Of course, if you only care about the Sound quality, then you'd be wasting your money paying for all the other stuff... but if you want the ecosystem sync and better materials, Airpods are your best option.
the sony's sound good but the maxes are better, with cleaner more accurate bass and better separation to the point where the sony's sound muddy in comparison. you're also getting a more premium build, better ANC, better transparency, and lower latency bluetooth + integration with apple's ecosystem. they are well worth the price tag considering they aren't even competing with the XM4's, but with luxury headphones that cost upwards of 800$ like the B&o H95's. like with most apple products, you're not paying a premium for good enough, you're paying a premium for the best.
Lets be honest, the only reason the $150 pair exist is because the originals are way over priced for what they are. You can get far better sound quality for a lot less.
Just one tip. If you use the ears on a stand again, do it like Dankpods. On the same take, alternate both headphones so we can have a more clear comparison, and than talk about how they sound. Great video 👍
I would have liked you too see if any differences behind the cups and with charge ports etc, video ok but could have gone into more detail especially as I'm thinking of buying some and don't want to get fakes, are the originals magnetic etc, also weighing them on a scale should be in the video
This is very informative and useful,, thanks Dave for making something new today 🙃👉👈🙃. Anyone knows what is the title of the song that Dave used for sound testing? Thanks
Back when I was still vaping, I was, and remain, 100% convinced that the clones came from the same manufacturing facilities as the genuine/branded items. For the companies who make them, they've got dual income channels: the premium brand, and the clone market. One thing's for sure: The clones may or my not be worth $150, but the Apple products absolutely are NOT worth $549.

@@brandon_nope Why exactly? Cause you can switch between your phone and mac easily? As an apple store wizard i am gonna honestly say, that feature rarely works good enough. Also these are not something you wear outside...i have actually never seen any airpods max in the wild. All i see is either Sony, Bose, JBL or even beats. It rather have some control over the sound via app or something, rather let apple provide one universal sound profile...thats not what you want from headphones that are so expensive.
thank you for this. I was really contemplating an expensive fake one when i was overseas in the middle east, but i didn't buy them then. was wondering if i would've regretted it. They looked exactly like real ones in the plastic wrapped box too, i thought they were real!
Can just imagine buying AirPods or specially fakes just to look "cool". But the most brutal part, buying real ones and getting scammed with a fake pair, nowadays it is everywhere with gear, sneakers, fragrances and etc.
You want real? Go at official stores and you want get scammed. Simple. Altough if you are paying 550euros for a pair of shitty apple headphones, you are getting scammed either way. Lol
@JohnDoesTech because there are 200 euros headphones that have better sound quality. I am not saying that product itself has flaws or such. The product is well designed and works fine. But at 550 euros its severely overpriced and because of that its a bad product for the consumer. Now if you got money to throw then no one cares, you go ahead and do that. Well Dave let me tell you , you are exactly correct , don't ask me how I know but I can assure you that is 100% case. This happens not only to Apple products but to every other product as well , doesn't matter if it's electronics or clothes or bags or anything in between.
I have such an experience with a Dell Backpack.
Yeah what do you expect it's China.
I'm sorry, even if you said so, I'm gonna ask. HOW do you know that?

It could be worse, some might sell that fake one at exactly the same price as the real one.

I think another $50 of hardware can make it sound much better. But $200 is enough to get something like QC35 on sale.
Nah; the Airpods are actually worth the price. In pure audio quality, they are probably worth about $400-450, but the build quality, the way it syncs with the Apple ecosystem and the tech in it justify the extra $100-150....

i really don’t understand the people who make knockoffs. especially the second one which even has identical packaging. why spend so much time and effort trying to duplicate something? so much effort that is put into trying to have it as identical as the real deal? why not spend those time and effort trying to make your own original idea? at the end of the day, the cheap low-quality knockoff will always be a cheap low-quality knockoff, whereas if it is an original product you came up with, there’s room for improvement and one day you might find yourself success as a big player in the industry you step foot in one day (remember Apple started off in a garage and so did Microsoft) plus the morals of copying someone else’s idea and passing it off, and also potentially scamming an unknowing person into thinking he has the real product! not only is it illegal it is also highly immoral.
anyways on a lighter note, great vid Dave!

This reminds me of the iPad cases I bought from Taobao - while they were claimed as the real one and looked absolutely like the real one, the wear and tear always came just a few months of usage, while ones that were bought from Apple lasted years without much damage.

@@TheDeathmail I’m still not gonna pay much as a PS5, despite having it in the ecosystem
the sony's sound good but the maxes are better, with cleaner more accurate bass and better separation to the point where the sony's sound muddy in comparison. you're also getting a more premium build, better ANC, better transparency, and lower latency bluetooth + integration with apple's ecosystem. they are well worth the price tag considering they aren't even competing with the XM4's, but with luxury headphones that cost upwards of 800$ like the B&o H95's.
like with most apple products, you're not paying a premium for good enough, you're paying a premium for the best.
The Sony’s are extremely bassy, they are not that good, just get a pair of 560s or another hifi headphone instead
Lets be honest, the only reason the $150 pair exist is because the originals are way over priced for what they are. You can get far better sound quality for a lot less.
