She bought the rights with the intention of doing it herself, but dropped out because Fincher said she was wrong for the part. She is still on as producer. Her name is in the credits at the beginning

Rosamund said she actually had to go practice with cadavers for that slash scene with Patrick to make it look as realistic as possible. I love her acting so much and she just killed it again in “I care a lot”.

An interesting idea is that Amy was more enraged by Nick not trying anymore, not putting in the effort he put in to win her in the first place and making her and her life boring and domesticated - the anger at the infidelity and the knowledge that he was planning on leaving her were just the last straw. A great psycho character haha

    • @jamiemiller6156

The whole point of the book, and the movie, was that people pretend to be what they think their partner wants them to be and end up resenting having to be that person. They also resent their partner for not being what they want them to be, which they can never be because their partner is also pretending to be something they are not. It is an examination of relationships shown through Nick and Amy with some heavy exaggeration for effect.

"80% of the time it's the spouse", I think like 90% of the time, people are murdered by someone *they know* in general even if it isn't their husband or wife specifically. Apparently, murderers who kill random people are in fact very rare, which is strange given our society's fascination with serial killers and such.

Divorcing him is what Nick wants. So he wins in that case, especially if he goes on to live a happy life afterwards...which Amy won't allow herself to do. She's put too much work intro this relationship for her to be 'ruined' by him and for him to go about his life. So, killing herself produces a body which gets Nick the death penalty and he'll forever be known as the guy who killed Amazing Amy. In her mind, even if she's dead it's an absolute win for her. If she doesn't go through with killing herself, it's still a win.

I think they stayed together. I think he had some growing up to do, shown by the scene where he lost his men's magazine job and fell back on her trust fund. Then, he cheated, which pushed her over the edge. Her framing the men in her life was her way of being seen as victim, and expressing the hidden hurt made by her parents loving her image rather than her. Tyler Perry caught on by pointing out they can make a movie, expand The Bar, and become a low-tier celebrity couple, which was solidified by her pregnancy.
I think there was a little hint at the end that Affleck's character did have a hidden violence, but maybe he was truly terrified of being murdered at any point. It's funny at the end where he says, "You killed a guy!", reminding me when he was playing Battlefield, "Just killing some folks." "You two are the most f***ed up people I've ever met."

They both know she's far smarter than he is.
In the book, she had originally planned to make him go to jail for attempted murder and poisoned herself to have proof. She kept the vomit in the freezer - but she didn't put it in a safe hiding place when she came back, nor was she worried when he threw the vomit out.
Everybody is on her side because she can slip into a sympathetic role far better than he can. He's stuck doing what she demands - wooing her like he did in their early days - for the rest of his life.

You truly don't seem to get Amy as a character. She told you in a monologue why divorce isn't an acceptable option for her.
If they have a divorce, she'll lose. She has no liquid assets any more, only a bar that's still in the red. She's in her thirties and so has lost worth in the eyes of society. Nick, on the other hand, would get to have his (current) wish fulfilled - save job back in his home town with his twin sister and his 23 y/o girlfriend for company.
Divorces are ordinary. She was always pushed to be _amazing_ .
And you keep acting like she'll randomly kill him. The movie has been very clear about the fact she only takes vengeance on those she feels have wronged her.
Even Desi wasn't exactly blameless - he kept her locked up. She felt trapped because she had absolutely no money left and (in the books) he told her he'd go to the police if she ever left.
If Nick does what she wants - act like he did in the beginning of their relationship - she'll do the same. She's pissed because he broke their deal where they both fake to be someone else. It's not something a mentally healthy person does, but while her actions are far over the top, her making a move against someone can be predicted.

Any sane person would just divorce. Amy isn’t. Divorcing him would give him a chance to start a new life, be happy and get away with everything. Her pettiness makes her go all the way. She didn’t care if she dies, as long as she will be able to complete her revenge. Kind of a tunnel vision on her side.
Edit: saw a reply on one of the comments and they’re right, a divorce is a favor for nick. Amy doesn’t move on. She holds grudges. She needs help.

@@justnattnatt Yea I also meant that I don't think psychiactric help will be helpful in this case at all. For a person to change and get better they first need to realize there is something wrong and wanting to get better. Amy has no guilt or regret for what she did, she is actually quite proud and satisfied at the end. I don't think any intervention has any real effect on her. She also understands her actions and the gravity of them, she knows what she is doing.

Based on the book, Nick was very toxic and a user. He drained Amy of all of her money to fund failing businesses, guilted Amy into being the caregiver for his dying parents while he was “too distraught”/ laying on the couch, gaslighted her about wanting kids eventually even when he knew he didn’t, cheated on her with a student which is legal but unethical and (though it’s unconfirmed) he likely also hit her because he did have a temper.
Again, Amy is likely a certifiable narcissist or sociopath (plenty of evidence in her life to support that)… but Nick was not some innocent, dumb schmuck.

The beauty of the movie is showing how prespectives can be changed, with some helpful elements. Nick was seen as perfect husband, it changed it a monster. While Amy was a monster and become perfect wife. Every element push that narrative story making people belive in what they want to belive. Like the comment about twin sister been weirdly close. In the eyes of that person, Nick was already a monster that she used every thing that she considered weird. She didnt considered that they could be just closed brothers, instead she saw romantic affection (also the stigma that girl and boy cannot be just friends) and that believe made other people sharing the same idea. we could see the man behind Nick comment about Twincest, like is something common. Also goes for fetiche idea. Several people have this fetiche of twincest and since is social condemn, those people represed and project in others. Without been polemic, but the same happen with Prince Charles and Diana. In the end he become the monster (public vision) and Diana a saint (public believe and desire).
The last scene is very scary, because Nick with his flaws is trapped in a marriage he doesnt want, and every possible move can put him in danger. This really tie very well in domestic violence (doesnt matter the gender of the victim) where the victim walks in a floor of glass. The movie touches so many social commentary that goes behind just Amy been a psycho. Even her monologue explains how women are seein in society.
Rosamund Pike was amazing actress, making us hating and yet loving Amy. Rosamund is one of the few actress that know how to make us believe in her roles. Since 007 Die another day, we could see some glimpses of her potencial... She have a few roles similar to amy. And Ben, probably his best performance...
