Thanks for this video! I bought a hot tub and installed it yesterday and had no idea what to do to maintain it. I feel like I now have everything I need to know. Appreciate it!
What should the ph be ? Also I just got one used and it's kind of stained , glad i watched this , was going just Scrub with tub cleaner , can I do that still and push through pumps and jets to clean , and seller said I could use regular water is that true but said I can't get in with regular clothes so what do I use ? I do I need to do all the chemical really ? Any info would be appreciated 🙏
Depends on the chemicals and the concentration! Most tap water has chlorine and Fluoride but it doesn't kill grass.... If you add a ton of chlorine to your hot tub then drain it into your grass then yeah it might Tap water is typically 2 PPM so if you're in that range you should be safe
In the beginning of this video you alluded to age of spa factoring into how to balance & maintain your spa. If so, how does age affect this process. I have an older spa (2004) and keeping chemicals in balance has been a challenge. Thank you.
A well-made hot tub should last you between 15-20 years. You could need to replace some of the older parts, like the control panel - or it could be something more complicated. It's like having an older car: you may need to invest in larger repairs or you may want to consider buying something newer.
So.........getting a 6 person Rotospa delivered this week........assuming this routine is the same for a "portable" tub as it is for a larger acrylic unit?! I live in Canada so is draining and cleaning it in the fall before the freeze hits and then again in the early spring ideal? Don't want to risk it in the dead of winter
Help.. I have just bought a house with a Hot Tub and I have no idea what to do or where to even get started. The hot tub hasn't been used in a couple of months, since the house was vacant while while the sale was pending.. I'm thinking I should drain all the water out, replace the filter and refill the hot tub to start out with.. I'll go out and buy the test kit and the chemicals recommended here.. Can I just go into a pool store and buy a kit that has all the things I need?
@@tallchick1966 - i went to a local pool & spa see store and talked to someone. Basically, i emptied the hot tub, washed the surface as best we could, cleaned the water filter and refilled the tub. Then added Bromine/Chlorine shock. Turn the system on and waited til it came up to temp. Then waited a few hours and tested with the ph test strips... (Dunk them into the water about 6 inched below the surface for a few seconds and pull out). Then compared the test strip to the color chart and added chemicals to get it correct.
Sure glad you posted a video on this. I recently bought a used tub, but all the expensive circuit board and pump has already been updated. I suppose there is a full test kit as the one I seen in your video?
When you have a spa that is an odd number of gallons do you round up the chemicals? I am getting a swim spa with 440 gals on the spa side and 1635 gals on the swim side. Thanks
Hi, my hot tub has a water filtration system (paper filters) along with an ozonator. Do i still need ph balancer, bromine, shock, etc ? Also, is it okay to use aromatherapy?
How is this schedule affected by salt water? I've got a salt water tub and the chlorine level is monitored by the system, I am unsure if if it necessary for the other elements.. also, are the scum sucking tennis balls reusable with cleaning?
When shocking your hot tub do you use chlorine shock when using bromine to maintain. I guess what I’m asking can you mix chlorine with bromine…. I understand how to maintain a pool but just recently got a hot tub.
I was wondering the same thing. I listened to a podcast by this creator and he emphasized that you CANNOT mix chlorine and bromine. But then it seems like the shock is chlorine and most people use bromine to maintain... So... Can they mix? I'd love the video creator to answer this.
Yes you absolutely can use a chlorinated Shock with a Bromine sanitizer. If you look at Spa Guard Enhanced Shock(which is a chlorinated Shock) it states right on the directions it can be used with either chlorine or Bromine sanitizers

Lord, this is where I change my mind about this whole hot tub business lol
The poors are at it again
It's way easier to treat a hot tub than a pool. Once you get into it and learn this it becomes a breeze.
It's easier to have a saltwater tub.
Right? We plan to buy one for our new house and now that I know what to expect I'm like... 😳
How often do you change the tennis ball?
If you are using bromine you shouldn’t use chlorine shock correct? If you do how do you correct it?

1:35 are you saying you should turn off the power and only turn it on 15 mins a day? i thought the power was supposed to stay on the whole time?
Omg the tennis ball trick made me 😂
Fantastic tip though and am 💯 going to buy tennis balls
When draining the tub will the chemicals in the water kill grass or other plants

Do I need to use a mineral stick with bromine tablets or can I do without it?

Easy instal and works well
Excellent video!!!
Thanks great video
What is the best hot tub tester kit. Would like electronic but heard these were not accurate.

All of the advice applies. Cheers!

I’m in the same boat!!

One gallon give or take probably isn't going to affect you either way
How do you go from Chlorine to Bromine?
Best to do that when you do a water change
Thank you so much.
Hi, my hot tub has a water filtration system (paper filters) along with an ozonator.

You always need bromine/chlorine.
Water balance and filtration are most important

Can you convert your hot tub to salt water?
Yes! We have an article outlining the entire process: www.swimuniversity.com/salt-water-hot-tub/
Excellent video for a beginner!! I feel better now. What about the hoses that circulate the water, do you recommend replacing them?
Is there a way to remove total chlorine from a hot tub without draining it?
We have a video on how to reduce chlorine levels. Check it out: th-cam.com/video/BF76ulYCa7A/w-d-xo.html
You can add a little more water and not completely drain it. The Swim guy has a link to how to change the balance.
Your cartoon hot tub water is radioactive green!
I heard that magic erasers absorb stuff.
is there a digital reading tool to measure the exact PH level? reading the color kinda a guess work.
Yes I have one that I bought from Amazon
What the hell did i get into!
Sounds like a lot work and chemicals for this Hot Tub i got.
It’s not too bad …been doing it for five years….after a year or two …you get your little method going and you know just what to do
Bro why’d I buy a hot tub if it requires this much work 😂
Right? Definitely having second thoughts.
Once you’re used to it it’s as easy as taking out the trash and recycling.
these time frames are completely made up, esp if youre only using your tub like once a week
