2yrs later and this video is still the best inflatable hot tub maintenance video out there
Ummm. YEAH! Seriously most helpful video EVER! The others make no sense and don’t give the details for “normal people” like you do!!! Thanks so much!
Since I received my inflatable hot tub this Christmas I have spent hours researching the internet for advice and instructions and I just wanted to compliment you on simplifying the process to me. I live alone with no pets and installed this hot tub in my heated basement with the expectation that maintenance shouldn’t take much time or trouble. The test strips made me think I was a chemical engineer, easy to use and understand. I look forward to many years of enjoyment and relaxation with this product. Thanks again for posting this video.
Awesome! Happy to help!
Yes thank you
Trisha may I join u in the hot tub
@@Straightahead101 Omgosh - I never expected a comment like that, I’m speechless.
You are picky! And i love it. Great information, and your guest's comments are of interest, too!
When it gets cloudy put in a pound of baking soda , it will clear up in front of your eyes. It's cheap and healthier
Good to know!
@@nomadicfanatic baking soda brings the ph up also.
@@nomadicfanatic Baking soda (Sodium bicarbonate) will raise the pH of your water and can throw some of your other chemicals out of whack. For instance - bromine and chlorine's effectiveness as a sanitizer are all dependent upon pH. Too high or too low pH will affect how well they keep your water clear and clean.
vinegar is always my go to for help with cleaning it up. 1 gallon of vinegar add at full temp and it's cleared up. Also go for your skin.
@Turner Landry A 4% rice wine vinegar works best for me and is available at most store outlets.
All I do is bromine tabs in a floater thing and sprayed out the filter every other day. Oh and a fluffy ball thing that absorbs oil. Love the videos! Been watching for years!
what fluffy ball thing? lol

My wife and I just bought an inflatable spa and was looking for a video on how to maintain it when we stumbled upon yours. Thanks for this information. This video was extremely helpful. My wife and I are also looking to eventually get an RV to travel in as we both have jobs that allow us to work anywhere we want. So, I subscribed and have been watching your videos and really love the information about RVs, your travel adventures etc. Your channel is awesome! Thank you so much Eric for all your videos. Really do enjoy them!
It has been 3 years since he released this video and it is still the best video out there. Props to you!
Thanks! Happy to help. Not sure why all the secrecy out there. :)
100% Agree, My friends told me to follow his instructions and yep, works perfectly!
Dude you have explained this phenomenally wonderfully I am so thankful finally somebody has finally explained everything to me no guessing or cryptic s*** thank you so much even the little advice comments/tips about pets and how you clean it... wonderful wonderful thank you so much dude!!!!🙏🙏🥰🥰
That’s really thoughtful of you to make sure you have a locked cover to keep children safe even though you haven’t any
This video worked. You cured me of wanting one of these!
Thank goodness I got mine before I saw this video, or I'd have come to the same conclusion. I'm glad now I have it!
You are so awesome. Thank you. I just bought a Bestway Coleman inflatable hot tub square 4-6 people. I didn't realize how much maintenance was required or I might not have bought it. However, I did and now I know what to do. I've subscribed to your channel so I can continue to learn. Sorry about Amazon. I have been blocked by them for more than 5 years. I can't even ask a question. Yet, they continue to have more fake reviews than honest ones. I have a love/hate relationship with Amazon. LOL!!! Again thanks so much.
Thank you!!! I got a saluspa and have no experience with hot tube maintenance! Your video is the best I have found! I thought I would have to measure all the ph increased, ph decreased… and I see you just sprinkle it in…. Thanks for the great video!!!!
I retest after 30 minutes and sprinkle more on if needed sometimes. :)
Thank you so much for this! I just got mine and this is the most thorough and comprehensive video on care for the hot tub I've seen.
Thanks for your honesty & no bs approach to being a fastidious owner! You make conscientious hard work look super easy, which makes me feel like I can do this….unlike most other vids with so many confusing contradictions. Thanks for the simplicity! 😊
This reminds me of the time I used to clean my parents pool, I hated it. So much work for a hot tub. I think I would rather go over to someone's house who has a hot tub and use theirs. haha...have fun!!
I’ve had a hot tub for the past 4 years. Didn’t know about the vacuum, definitely getting one. Thanks!
Yeah, I like that!
You don't need a "vacuum" to get sediment out of a hot tub. All you need is a short garden hose, say 15' to 25'. Make a siphon (there are lots of TH-cam videos that show how to do this) and in 5 minutes you've cleaned out all that dense material at the bottom of your tub. So easy.
i have had my spa for a year now, and i thank Eric so much for this video, it saved me, and i actually love taking care of my hot tub... you are the best Eric!!!!
My Intex Purespa is 2 weeks old & this video was extremely helpful!!! Thx :)
In regard to the bubbles using cold air, would you think that maybe using a space heater near the inlet and setting up something to trap that heat to where it is sucked in and used might help?
Great video! I scored one a couple weeks before Christmas and it was cheaper than the Black Friday price so I surprised hubby with it for Christmas. We have been loving it, but we were struggling with maintenance. I was glad to see that I had many of the chemicals you have, so we were on the right track, we just need to tweak some things. Thanks for the helpful tutorial and tips!
We had a hot tub for 20 years. We used to wash our filters in dishwasher
I've just gotten through just 2 minutes of this video and ALREADY I found out that the white inflatable thing goes INSIDE the dark blue cover! I couldn't even figure THAT out myself! (duh) -- I've had the Intex for a few days and unfortunately one of the connections leaks a bit and we don't want to take it all apart to check or replace the O ring. Other than that, it's such a great thing! THANK YOU for a great video!
I put an inflatable hot tub in my living room last year. Worst idea ever. My dog bit a w hole in it and when I came home from work my living room was completely destroyed. In my defense I never claimed to be the brightest person...

Hello Eric...thanks for the info...i just purchased one of these as part of my recovery for some upcoming surgery i am having...im thinking about running some supplemental heat to it from a heat exchanger on my woodstove...we will see how it works...i have seen you out on the road in Washington and Utah...safe travels...
THANK YOU!! Yes, there isn't a video like this out there. I feel like trying to figure all this out requires a chemistry degree. I could really use a first time setup chemical video. What did you put in the first day and how did you do it? That would be super helpful.
I would like to add that I've seen it mentioned that to suck up the bottom debris one can also use a fish tank syphon.
I just cut a long section of water hose, learned how to create a good suction, took forever to learn how, now first try I got that baby sucking the sand out, I’m kinda ocd prone and love doing this knowing I created, this out of nothing and what a handy tool too! Lol
Due to your videos I pulled the plug and got one. I watch this video a couple times to make sure I’m doing everything right.
Great advice! Very informative.
The Frog Ease floater can also be used. Even easier than the process used here. Just get the water hardness right and follow the instructions included on the package. Easy Peasy.
The filters should be cleaned after every use. Defoamer is a must too. Other than that I only check the levels about once a week. No issues really. No other chemicals really needed except for shock now and then.I don’t stress about it. If the water is clear and no one gets a rash. My levels have always been in the correct range.
Frog Ease is a little expensive, but worth the no hassle.
Thanks. Weird I followed you and Jax for ages as nomads, now I buy a hot tub and there you are again! Great information.
Literally extremely helpful! This is amazing, Took your advice and its amazing. 10/10
Thanks. This is the most informative video I’ve seen to maintain my Intex. Thankyou!
I remember when we moved to Florida. The dang pool ( 32,000 gallons) had developed all sorts of nasty problems until I got a handle over a 3-4 month period. It went from cloudy water to Algae to black Algae to mustard Algae. What a mess. You know the problem is dyer when they sell you Flocculant to KILL everything and start over. Our two boys and nephew were constantly in the pool along with the grown ups. I finally switched over to a salt system (Bromide) and dumped the chlorine and all the other nasty stuff. I had a Bag that absorbed all the fatty acids through the skimmer and would just add PH up occasionally as well as Bromine tablets. The water was crystal clear. No more red, bloodshot eyes and stinky skin. Definitely the way to go.
Eric, I love your attention to detail. And your enthusiasm. You have the resources and time to do what you enjoy. And you take us along with you ! Keep up the good work.
I've had inflatable spas for years. I have had to use PH down more than up. Before I hose down my filters I use a old toothbrush to scrub them and loosen up the debris. This adds life to the filters
Thank you -- Watched your video before inflating the hot tub and felt so much better about the chemical process. Also, love your followers comments. Great group of people.
Man seems like u luv your portable hot tub. U must post a video of u scrubbing the floor of ur hot tub 😂. Luv ur video!
I’ve watched this video 5-6 times and I’m very grateful for your sharing of knowledge!
I have saluspa Hawaii I just changed water today haven't changed since first week of March I use all the exact same things as u I appreciate this video I found the little vacuum helpful I didn't know they made those also mines in my basement keeps it from getting so cold so quick
Thanks for all the help. Brand new to having my own spa and never had a pool or helped take care of one either. This was perfect
Great video. I’ve had an INTEX pool for couple years. This is more maintenance.
this video is the best, I just got my hot tub exactly like he has and this is the best to explain how to care for it. Thank you so very much I know it is old but definitely still relevant
Glad it helped
This video was so super helpful. I can't find the shock you recommended and I can't seem to figure out what other product is safe for my vinyl tub. Could you please recommend something?
you'll find the 4 in 1 shock on amazon also.
Thank you for this video!!! You're right, not much in the way of care for these tubs on youtube. Have you found or heard of any hacks to get warmer air to pump through the jet tube? Space heater beside the pump unit? Do they make something you can install? Our tub gets up to 104 but we're around 35-40 outside so the jets end up cooling the water off pretty quick.
Great video ....... Iam thinking about buying one of these intex spa for my 2nd home located in upstate NY . My problem is iam not there all the time . How long can the filter be off before the water starts to get cloudy ? My 2nd question is can this filter have a auto ON OFF on its own ? Thank You
GREAT VIDEO!! Thank you, I think I love my Spa again! My main issue is opening it after its been dormant all window.
Hi! Nice video! Should I keep the filter on all the time or just when I use/treat the water? Thank you!
Hey Eric... the inflatable spas are awesome 👏 especially in locations where a normal spa doesn't work (like camping ⛺️ at the river or mountains)... FYI - Baking Soda (Sodium bicarbonate) is used to raise pH (exact same thing as pH up at the pool supply store) which should be between 7.2 and 7.8... if the water 💦 is too acidic, it's going to make the water cloudy and wear out the heater element (or any metal)... also I don't use chlorine in the spa because it "burns-off" in temperatures above 80° where Bromine is more stable in higher temperatures... one more thing, try dissolving the shock treatment in water prior to adding to the spa... anyway, Thanks 🙏🏻 for sharing...
How much clairafier.?
Baking soda will raise PH, but it raises alkalinity even more. Sodium bicarbonate is typically sold as alkalinity increaser. Many times you do not want to affect alkalinity, in which case PH increaser is typically sodium carbonate, or washing soda.
I love this video..thank you. But, the HTH 4 in 1 shock says not to use in hot tubs...I'm confused..HELP!
Thank you for such detailed information!! I have had my saluspa for only about a month and I'm just getting to the point of feeling like it's safe to get in it. That's only because I have found step by step instructions on what I'm really supposed to be doing.
Can I see your step by step .. Did you figure it out?
What about the powder crystals that collect at the bottom when you shock it?
You're so cute! Very thorough review of your maintenance. I just unboxed mine today and in the process of setting it up. I got the SaluSpa from Costco. Thanks much!
Hi
Thank you for the video it’s really helpful!
I have one question only !
How often and how long you run a filter?
Thank
This was so incredibly helpful. I didn’t look how long ago this was posted but thank you. For the shock treatment… to make sure it’s “bromine” safe, do I just look for the shock that says “chlorine free” ? I couldn’t find the same one you showed via Walmart or Amazon. Ty
What is your turning off and turning on routine? I know you cant leave them on all the time so whats your method to keep the hester and pump in good shape? :)
Are you saying people turn the hot tub off and then re-heat? Lol. That's not a thing - not sure where you heard this. Although I can't speak for everyone, I don't turn it off and back on. Re-heating this would be an incredible waste of power. I run it 24/7.
Eric, great video. One question I seem to not find am answer to is how often should my filters be on? Only when I use it? Only when it is covered? Always?
How does this compare to salt water maintenance?
You can also run the filters through the dishwasher. I had a Hottub for 11 years and besides the no foam the only other chemical I used was Shock it is literally the same as the chlorine once a month to shock then a tablespoon or two about every 2-3 days I would change the water twice a year
Twice a year!?? Man thatll get kinda funky won’t it? I get the filters trap sediment but what about all stuff on the human body that gets in there every time.? Jw
Listen brother, I noticed if I use the rv I line water filter to fill my intext hottub, it helps tremendously, iv even put two water filters together to put pure water into the hottub, wow what a difference, I highly recommend
I purchased my Coleman Havana hot tub last year after seeing your setup. I love the tub. I clean my filters once a week on sunday but I only use the tub on the weekends.
Once a week on the filters? Wow, maybe I'm overdoning it.
@@nomadicfanatic well, I only use my tub once a week so maybe I'm under using it!😂
Do you turn it off? Or its always on?
@@rafaeltoledo9323 I always keep the heat and pump on. The pump will shut off after 72 hours of inactivity so every 2 or 3 days I'll hit the bubbler so the timer resets.
@@adamfischer6768 Thank you so much for your info its really helpful!
Any reason to use a floating dispenser over the built-in dispenser? You linked and named everything under the sun except your bromine float dispenser.
Good question! I utilize the "built in" despenser thread for an aftermarket underwater light mount.
I delude any chemicals in a clean bucket of water especially the shock before I add it it takes better and will prolong the life of the vinyl on the bottom of the tub
thanks for the tips I've been thinking about getting a portable hottub to put o the deck beside our RV, since I've watched you and others enjoying it at the end of a day
I am so thankful for this video! Thank you for telling me HOW to clean the water 🙂
Very helpful video, definitely will by that vacumn.1 issue i have is slime on the side walls.I wipe it down but some stuff doesnt skim out. Will the vacumn suck it up when settled back on walls or floor of the tub?
If I want to keep it cool for the summer, would the chemicals needed change?
No, chemicals would be the exact same without heat.
well you just simplified my life and gained a sub
You are amazing… I just bought one ..different brand but you taught me so much. Thank you so much !!!
Glad I could help!
Thank you Eric...I just set up my new Coleman and noticed that after the first use with 3 people in it, it lost air. I know that sometimes you will have to add air to the hot tub. Can you show us how to fill with air without draining?
Thank you for the video. How do you change the light inside? I love your routine maintenance suggestions
My wife and I had the same one and loved it. We used it for about five years. We only switched to a traditional hot tub because we like to go in the tub year round and it gets pretty cold here in winter
If you use spa clarifier HTH brand
8 oz = 4 person size INTEX first time?
Can you use 4:1 shock too at same time?
Water is cloudy
Using bromine tablets as well
Alkalinity keeps pH stable. You should be checking that along with your Bromine and pH. Other than that your water looks great.
Hi Eric, we just got a Coleman hot tub and started off the absolutely wrong way. Fast forward, my little boy ended up with hot tub folliculitis, yuck! We drained our hot tub, sprayed it with 50/50 white vinegar/water and have let it air dry for several days now. We’re planning on scrubbing it down before refilling it, too. So we don’t screw the chemistry up again, could you go over the chemical treatment of fresh water? Thanks for the helpful video here - subscribed!

I have a saltwater intek 4 person hottub, do you know what kind of chemicals to use to sanitize?
Eric...we have well water with rust and other minerals. What can I use. I know there are chemicals at start up fill but not sure they are safe for inflatable tubs
Did you find any advice on this? We have well water also.
@@kaylabodi3583 nope. But found at Menard's a mineral and rust remover. It took two days but became crystal clear. Also used an RV water filter at end of hose, but flush it first. And as you turn it on and off remove the hose with the filter out of the spa. I found that turning the hose on while in the water was pretty forceful so it was flushing the charcoal filter coloring into the spa water..not a big deal but it make less work and wait whike the mineral/ rust remover began to work. Good luck!!
I've owned this exact soft tub. It's a really a good investment. Be sure to not over full it with air as I did. Maintain it everyday. Don't let cats on it. Dip filters in bucket w water and tsp overnight. Have extra filters.

Our water is very alkaline. I have some pH strips, and I filled up the sink and tested. Our pH is between 7 and 8 right out of the tap. Will I ever use pH UP? Do the chemicals drive the pH down?
Hello!
Where did you find your mat you put on the bottom of your hot tub? So much helpful information in this video!!!
it was on Amazon actually. I don't think it was brand specific, just a bubble wrap pad for inflatable hot tubs.
I;m here in CT. Should I insulate and cover the pump?
I'm having a hard time finding out how ph/alk lowering products like Spa Down or Dry Acid I should be adding to my tub. I used a conversion site and found that 300ish gallons requires 22gr of dry acid to lower the ph 100ppm. That amount did nothing. I just added another 22gr today and I'm hoping for a better result. My alk/ph are both at the darkest color on the strip.
Your Awesome! Best video I have seen so far!
I have that same hot tub. For the price, I love it! I got mine used offline for $50. It works great!
$50 bucks? Wow. Score.
What about the 120V. Are they ok plugging into a 110 outlet?
I have a question. In an inflatable Intex PureSpa Hot Tub, what is the normal Bromine Level? I read that the normal PH level is 7.2 to 7.6 with a maximum acceptable level of 7.8 but I certainly would want to keep my PH at around 7.4 as best as I could. What's the normal Bromine level? I need to know this as soon as possible!
I don’t know what any of the specific numbers are, I just use the test strips and you use the color guide. I’ve never actually looked into the actual numbers of each chemical
You were fantastic in a easily understood way, certainly helped me in finding the chemicals needed and will look no further and go with your advice. Thanks for sharing your knowledge through experience.
Some one used shampoo and conditioner and possibly some dish soap is it ruined? Or do we just put new water in and clean it?

Thanks for the info on the vacuum. I will definitely be buying one. Until then, and what I have been doing for the debris use using a hose and the Siphoning technique to suck it out.
So do I need ph minus and ph up? And should I shock the spa first before I add all other chemicals?
Eric! I used a non-maintained hot tub years ago and it took me a WEEK to get the stink off! EWWWWW! I agree, I don't like chlorine either. Yuck!
I have a question my calcium hardness level on the test strip says Low like the lowest on the strip.
Should i get the calcium hardness increaser ?
how do I drain the hot tub?
does the sanitizer mode make any sound when it’s working?
There's a drain at the very bottom inside the tub to drain. The filter mode? It hums but not very loud.
I really miss my hot tub! I'm so tempted to get one of the portables... Thanks for the info
