Yes, during the War of Liberation, the PLA or then the Red Army were very well behaved. My late mother always relate to us of how they came through her village bearing some rice and a few chooks and requested the villagers to cook and share a meal with them so that they can explain to the villagers the revolutionary ideas and plans for the future. My mum contrasted with the Japanese Imperial Army who raped and pillaged but Nationalist did not rape; they nevertheless stole any properties that are worthwhile. On news of the late Chairman Mao's death she mourned his passing in September 1976 by wearing black for three months. She also advised me she cried and was teary for weeks as if his passing was akin to her own father's death.

That is how the Chinese Communist Party defeated the Chiang kai-shek forces. Mao got the support of the peasant.

Hi Nick, I used to live in Rongjiang, Guizhou, for 4 years, teaching at the same school. I loved my school, students and made really good friends. I bought an upsize scooter so I could go visit the villages surrounding my town with 1 of my friends there. Often went home with some students to their hometowns (villages). Love it so much and also helped sifting sand for building or cutting down the rice stalks with one of my students‘ mother.
The big cities don‘t attract me because there it seems ebetyone is for himself.
I came back to South Africa for a holiday on 8 Jan 2020, but then I could not go back because the virus broke out.
I REALLY miss my life in China. Best 4 years of my life!!!

The impact of the greenery at the introductory start of the video is so soothing to the eyes and very invigorating. The woman that walked past with her hair polled made me lost thought for a moment thinking you had flew back to the ancient past. Ancient town like this has lost its charm with those souvenir/commercial shops. Beautiful architecture but it is now what we call old-new, or new-old referring to refurbished buildings to make it look old. However there is still a quiet charm as you brought us along the corridors along the river stream, and the wooden houses, refreshing for urbanites like me, tired of concrete walls. Thanks for sharing.

I did some research the past struggles with the central government ie the “empire” were about the political dominance and taxation. But when the red army came through it was different it virtually ended the slavery that still existed in these remote areas, you can say it was about liberation. That’s why it had support from the majority of the people.

Except 55 million Chinese died from starvation from the red army government’s mismanagement. Remember the great famine in the late 1950’s?. CCP killed more people than the Japanese did .. facts
