    you can get that rod stock for making the linkage rods at a hobby shop that carries radio control plane supplies, and they would also have the special pliers for making the "Z" bend.
    they are building a new plant here in Fort Worth Texas and will be making craftsman sockets and ratchets back in America again!!

    Hey....It's Casual Friday at the Pender Shop! And we're fortunate enough for TWO Friday videos! Is that a ballast fluorescent light ballast I hear humming? Have you thought about updating/upgrading to LED lights in the shop? From one that's done this, it makes a WORLD of difference and it's not very costly at all to do. One 5,000 lumen LED takes the place of three 4 foot double bulb fluorescent fixtures!! Not to mention the electricity savings. After I switched, my shop bill was cut in half. You can get LED replacement bulbs for your existing fixtures that are plug and play that work with or without a ballast. So if a ballast blows, a simple rewire and you're back in business. Excellent work on the ole Honda! All it takes is determination right? Cheers my Good Friend! Sean~

      Yes I have thought about going LED especially after your conversion. Time is the key. ie finding some.

    Thanks for the reply Bruce. You have saved my day alot by watching you videos. I did replace the carb on one of them, and tried to clean out the second one, but the emulsion tube was so stuck in there it would not come out. I will try cleaning them out one more time and see what happens. You also need to make a video on how to repair a frozen blade brake clutch on these monsters. I had to farm that one out to the repair shop to get that fixed. Dave Anderson

    I always start at the beginning. Compression then fuel(since you know it has spark,or at least some from it running,albeit poorly). Then I'd have checked air filter and then choke. Saw it was running obviously rich. After fixing that THEN I may have noticed the valve cover dent and addressed it if needed. I just really like to do a quick compression check just to be sure I'm not trying to spend an hour or two "polishing a turd". Great videos,keep it up!

    Hi. I picked up one of these series of mowers. Couldn't get it to run well. Smoking. Idling bad. Not shutting off right etc. There was a screw or was it a pin... that was glued in the carb. I had to heat it up, take it out, clean it, put it back, heat it, and reinstall it. It has run fine for 4 years since with lots of use and no issues.

    Always check your linkages and your choke operation before going crazy on the parts cannon. Its great that you were able to repair that Honda. The older Snapper Lawn mowers are my favorite followed by the Older Honda mowers. I have one that I replaced the carburetor because of an intermitten issue with stalling. The thing is, its still doing it. I intend to replace the fuel line and the fuel shut off next. I suspect something keeps stopping up the fuel flow. The original carburetor was pretty much trash anyways but Now I think part of the fuel line internally keeps plugging up the fuel. When I jolt the mower around, it clears back up. So Its fuel related.

    • @BrucesShop
      @BrucesShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do you have a sonic cleaner??

    • @scottfirman
      @scottfirman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BrucesShop I got one two years ago from China. I found it invaluable to most carburetor repairs. If the ultrasonic cleaner doesn't work, its beyond repair. Thats the case with my Honda. Be careful what you are using in them. I found that the purple cleaner highly-rated dissolves the outer coating on most carburetors and the bowl, exposing it to future rust issues. It also discolors the metal to a grey color. It can etch the metal also, creating a rough texture. I found Simply Awesome and dawn dish detergent works best with the Ultrasonic cleaner. Don't go heavy with it eather. I found a mix of both works best with water. 1/3 Simply Awesome and a few drops of dawn after filling the container. Generally the solution is so contaminated after one use, I dump it out.

    Mowers use 20 ounces of oil. Why are manufacturers only providing 18 ounces in the mower oil containers?
    Also, is mower oil any different than standard SAE 30 weight car motor oil?

    • @BrucesShop
      @BrucesShop  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      To my knowledge mower oil is nothing different. -------18 ounces is 530 ml which is 1/2 a litre. I use a 1/2 litre when I change the oil. That may be it I just do't know.

    In the factory shop manual, those covers are considered consumables (disposable); they instruct to 'install new cover' after a valve clearance adjustment. I keep a spare on hand, because they're so flimsy, and it cost about $5 U.S. from Jacks Small Engines (my main parts source, on this side of the border). Not as cool as forcing an old part to serve just fine for another ten years, though.

      Not trying to be a Karen but I do not replace those valve covers either but I have heard the same thing. Not worth waiting on a part like that. I have a different procedure for different gaskets and if it sticks solid to the cover I use brake cleaner and then silicon. And for example for customers that keep using bad storage methods against my recommendations I started oiling carb gasket so they do not sick and I puff them back out with a strong solvent like carb cleaner hey if it was labor intensive new gaskets. on something fast I use my best judgement. My warranty is three months minimum so no harm. I am here because I have ran across a few Hondas that ran great but ran rich I am hoping for a trick LMBO. Have a super day everyone!!!!!!!

And people say,"yea, but it is a Honda it will last forever." How many Briggs have you had in your garage that are over 20 years old? Many. Now, how many people keep a mower 20 years? Two pair of needle nosed pliers are all you need to make the "Z". Just make the big bend first then hold that steady with the big pliers and do the small bend in any direction you'd like with the smaller pliers.

    nice tip for aligning the carb. That was a bad design change going from the nuts to those bolts.

      Al's Repair and Restoration what is the advantage of using the pins over just the bolts themselves? Seems like an extra step.

      Andrew T it's a real p.i.t.a. to get everything alligned and then try to screw in the bolts at same time.

    Good detective work Mate!! As much as you work on that stuff, you need to treat yourself to some good z bend pliers or just a cheap z bend tool!! I'd send you one if it didn't cost $50 to ship over the border eh!!☺
