Having lived and reenacted in the Hudson Valley for over 20 yrs, the story is well known to me! Terrytown/Sleepy Hollow has lots of good info. You need to remember too that Irving was poking fun at the original Dutch settlers, who were very conservative, and disliked all the New Englanders coming into their valley. Ichabod Crane represented these New Englanders, thus his poor physical description. This is meant to be the view of those Dutchmen. Disney didn't help either. Great work!!! Thanks!

Ichabod is a Biblical name that means God's glory has departed.
