  • My combo video for Akuma in Street Fighter IV. It covers "Bread & Butter" combos as well as "Links." This is definitely more informative than your average combo vid, it covering a lot of basic combos and setups that are integral to Akuma play.
    Gameplay recorded from the PC version of Street Fighter IV using Fraps, 1280x720 @60 fps. Arcade Stick/hand footage recorded with my JVC Everio Camcorder, 864x486 @29.970 fps. Major editing done in Adobe After Effects CS4, and the final cut compiled in Sony Vegas Pro 8.
    Music from Unreal Tournament III soundtrack, "Afterburn" and "Mekalopolis" respectively. Creators are Rom Di Prisco and Jesper Kyd.

    wtf is the "xx" supposed to mean. Are you catering these TRAINING videos towards people that already know how to do combos and read them? Kinda misses the point doesn't it?!

      if you are that new, don't play akuma

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @neontetra1000 Normal Shaku recovers too slow to be able to do it midscreen. By the time you can do EX Tatsu they're too far away and are pretty much on the ground. EX Shaku recovers like a jab fireball, allowing you to ex tatsu before they hit the ground, sucking them back in.
    I'd love to be proven wrong though, although even if you could, that combo doesn't do nearly enough damage in Super to make it worth it.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @LiftEatSleep If you can't do it from LP SRK I wouldn't recommend doing it at all, due to juggle properties and damage scaling, you aren't going to get but a sliver of damage more.
    You can only get so many hits on your opponent once they've left the ground, so you want the LP SRK since it does the most damage in one hit, and it will allow the shaku to hit 3 times instead of 1 (like after an HP SRK).

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    @skom555 Turtle. Akuma has all the tools to be just as, if not more annoying a turtle character than Guile. Be patient and react to his sonic booms, wait until you can identify what type of sonic boom he's throwing so he can't sneak in damage with EX sonic boom or catch you jumping early with an LP sonic boom.You can win the fireball war with sporadic red fireballs, and jump forward relatively safely with the shelter EX air fireball provides.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    While the timing can sometimes be similar to parrying from 3rd Strike, every link combo for the most part in the game has slightly different timing (which is annoying and prevents me from being good with other characters).
    Just have to get the feel for the combos that you use and stick to it I guess, I'd liken links to a metronome. Every link has a specific tempo (like a song), it's up to you to stay on rhythm.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was awful at this game and all fighting games, only by putting in the time will you get any better, play to get experience, practice execution, study match-ups, get to know the SF community and talk to them about strategy. You don't have the right mindset to learn, which is made apparent in your first comment.
    IMO I'm still mediocre at this game, and I've put 500+ hours in. I have horrible reaction speed, dexterity isn't required to learn, this isn't an otherworldly hobby.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Indeed for fireball focus cancels I hit focus twice, it's just a mental thing -- it works better for my muscle memory and was how I overcame timing issues with FADC combos. I basically just hit f+MP+MK, f+MP+MK. It works out good because I think the first MP+MK is actually too early to cancel, so in actuality the game thinks I'm dashing and hitting focus with the second forward input.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Septimius More damage. the HP SRK damage is divided over three hits, and since each hit in a combo scales the damage, the 1 hit of the LP SRK does more overall damage, and scales the combo less. It also allows the 3-hit HP Shaku to connect. If you did the HP Shaku after the third hit of an HP SRK the fireball would only hit one time due to juggle properties.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    NO difference, it's all in your mind. You are completely focused on the FADC at hand when doing it clean off a standing SRK, when you throw in the other bits of the combo you jumble the FADC when the time comes.
    That or you mash LP DP which will mess up your FADC's royally. So don't do that if that's what you do.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well your execution can't be 60-70% if you can't even do a link combo online, seeing as they're such a large part of comboing in general.
    You should work on basics first, fundementals -- you can win all your matches without doing flashy combos or having godlike execution. Pick a normal and learn about it, work on your fireball spacing/zoning, get them to play at your pace etc.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason keys aren't put in order is only because typewriters would get locked up because a lot of widely used letters were right next to each other. There is no ergonomic sense behind the keyboard layout of today.
    Some people prefer arched buttons, but it's still jab strong fierce, short forward roundhouse either way. I'm American, straight layout ftw.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, I rewired the buttons on the inside of the stick to as follows:
    LB X Y RB
    LT A B RT
    This makes a hell of a lot more sense for the layout, and this way I can use the default "controller A" configuration, but be using all 6 straight buttons...aka:
    LB = (3P) X = (LP) Y = (MP) RB = (HP)
    LT = (3K) A = (LK) B = (MK) RT = (HK)

    6 dislikes? What is up with you haters?! How can you dislike something so helpful? Do you still suck even after watching a video like this that practically spoon feeds you combo execution? Did giving it a dislike make you feel better about how much you suck?

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @LiftEatSleep The roundhouse has like one extra start-up frame, it's a bit upsetting but it won't change too much, just no loop.
    As for Ultra II, it can go to hell if I can't combo into it. I just wanted an ultra that was combo-able, otherwise it's sort of useless.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @ZankuuHadouken If you're pulling it off the traditional way (F, D, DF + PUNCH) Then I suggest after the forward input, you make a mental note to release the stick momentarily so it can return to neutral. It happens very fast of course but minute adjustments like this can help a lot.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's not always worth it, it's up to you and how liberal you are with your meter. LP SRK to HP Shaku does more damage in a combo, simple as that.
    the 3 cr.LP's into a combo are for hit-confirming. I have a video on this if you haven't seen it yet.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well, that's completely accidental, but it still works nonetheless, hence why I just noted it as "fierce punch" in the video. Double tapping I do about half the time, I showed it both ways just for people to get a feeling for the timing of both.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see what you're saying and I was a bit worried about it too, but seeing that it's aimed at speaking to the dumbest person possible, freeze-framing ever BNB and LINK would give people no excuse to not understand what's going on.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Double-tapping is to help expand the timing window that you have to hit your links properly. I'd first recommend learning the combo rhythms without double-tapping, and then add it to your arsenal afterward.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    The first two attacks of any of those three hit links don't need to be linked...you only need to link the last hit regardless.
    But it's good habit to link every attack. jab x3 is personally harder than jab jab strong for me.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't double tap too much, just did it for the sake of demonstration in this video. Combos are perfectly fine without double-tapping or plinking.
    As for the time, dude I just woke up at like 2am. Haha.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    The problem is that the file is 650 MB running @ 10 MBPS. I wanted to make sure it had the least amount of artifacts as possible, so the processing will probably take a while.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the words, good to hear people appreciate it. I figured there had to be a bar set for combo videos, and not just have a bunch of combos that aren't explained.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the encouragement, took a hell of a lot of time to make this sucker. Still have another half to do, but I'm taking a couple days off from editing! haha.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Well I don't generally plink combos unless it's the roundhouse loop. jab jab strong shouldn't be hard at all, that's his number one hit-confirm in my opinion.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I double-tap in this video plenty of times, just pay attention.
    As for plinking, there is a little plinking demonstration in part two of my Raging Demon tutorial.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I always time the LP SRK, since it will fuck up the FADC if you mash. Just work on timing, you'll likely have to hit it slightly later than you would the HP SRK.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't really think of it that way so much, I just do it immediately after I hit HP. maybe I am actually doing it this way, but canceling is pretty lenient.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @jamheald yeah 1 frame links can be tough, akuma's close stand jab to sweep, fireball fadc standing roundhouse, and roundhouse loop are all 1-frame links.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    No you don't have to wait, you cancel the s.HP into the LK Tatsu. It's a 2-in-1. So immediately after you hit the fierce punch, you do the tatsu.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    I suppose, but I'm not going to throw out a standing fierce if they're crouching anyway, and they won't be able to crouch mid-combo.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah, I throw in c.HP's by accident sometimes. Precisely why I labeled it fierce punch, and not standing fierce. Still works.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @neontetra1000 The only time you can do that is in the corner, or with EX Shakunetsu. Pretty much a waste of meter.

  • @ghettoshampoo
    @ghettoshampoo  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah these are pretty basic combos for Akuma, I'd say the essentials even. You have to know them for competitive play.

    Akuma has one of the best match-ups against Sagat. Him and Ryu are probably the only dudes that give him any trouble.

    Nice, none of that 2 fadc into so many links of jabs and shorts that they become almost meaningless due to damage scaling. Good vid.
    I got a question for you though, I recently made the transition from 3rd strike, in which I also played akuma. The main difference I feel is the timing on the links, would you equate it to being like timing the inputs like parrying in 3rd strike? Or is there a difference in timing depending on the combo and I would have to just feel it out for each one?

  • @keyboredxyz
    @keyboredxyz 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    for some reason i'm finding getting the timing right on HP cancelled to Fireball FADC to HP very difficult.. as well as Fireball FADC to standing HK.. these seem to be the most important links for akuma as they really allow his combos to evolve to the next level, do you have any comments/advice on these in particular?

  • @Sosozanyway
    @Sosozanyway 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @BUDDAz1g If they are crouching and blocking, your best bet is to frame trap them and end it with a fireball to be safe. If you hit a crouching opponent with anything but a c.fp they will remain crouched, so what you do is OS c.lk, c.lp, c.mp, fireball, FADC from fireball hit confirm, c.fp (to stand them up) then BnB from there.

    learning akuma has been one of the most difficult things i have done in gaming... with akuma you always have to be on point because if you make 1 or 2 mistakes you are going to get dizzied im going to stick with him as long as i can but i dont know how many more bad loses i can take with him.. but in the right hands he has by far and away the best offense on the game

  • @IIILazarusIII
    @IIILazarusIII 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just a question about how you perform your Focus Dash Cancels. It seems to me, when I see your fingers moving, that you press the Focus attack twice. For example to do a High punch canceled into hadoken FADC high punch again, you push : Hp - hadoken - FA - Dash - FA - Hp. Or it seems. Is there a reason why you do that ?

    I have to say this is a very well done video. I liked the clips of your hands to show how you're doing the motions. Because of juggle count if you do a hp srk cancelled on the third one of the fireball hits will miss if you do this after a lk tatsu 2 will mis, without a tasu the most damaging fadc fireball is using the mp srk. I would think 3 lps is for ease of use and the fact they can be chained into a true block string if blocked or you can easily link (without moving your finger) the third for a cancel. Hope this helps answers your question.

    specifically and learned the match ups and all...my execution is about 60% to 70% learned combos did most of the trials and people who are not even really trying just beat the fuck out of me...Dont get me wrong I never disconnect but people have disconnected on me for being an opponent "not worth their time" and usually get taunted in matches and all thats shit 20+ losing streaks is the normal for me but I keep going instead of selling the game but im lost now....

    You think i should spend more time? I thought I was putting enough....I just started recently being like this I apologize I just hope you spend some more time on me maybe pointing me in the right direction. I am usually stubborn (in a positive way) when competitive.678 hours and my win rate is a little over 20%. I want to know is there anything specificaly to train on? half of those hours or more is training mode... LOL I even fell asleep training mode. I read on faqs from a bunch of sites SRK-

    Excellent presentation and video editing, keep up the good work. This is by far the best SF4 combo video I have seen because it combines style with substance.
    Cheers.

    no that's what i was trying to say you don't have to be in the corner ,i assumed you would have to be but it can be done midscreen if you do the ex tatsu just at the right time,i learnt it from watching a match,if i can find it i will send you a link,i can't test at the moment but i'm pretty sure that's right,i'll write back after my next session

    One of the reasons I love play as akuma is the badass combos. Great editing on this videos.
    That weak shoryu after weak tatsu gave nightmares, I just can't do it, unless if I mash the shoryu, but that make focus cancel miss.
    Any tips? My timing on that part is horrible. I use homemade arcade stick.
    Thanks in advance.

    I can't do the bread-and-butter, it seems impossible because when I hit HP I have to wait for cooldown then I can start short-tatsu. I'm using keyboard btw.

    Fascinating. I don't even play Akuma and I sat through the whole thing. Great use of the editing and music. Everything came together really nice. Well done.

    good video... great editing!
    the only thing i thought was odd was the c jab x3 link ... that's uber basic and the first 2 jabs don't even need to be linked!

    hey dude nice vids,keep it up! i learnt something new the other day,it is possible after a b+b combo ending with fadc shakanetsu to hit the opponent immediatly after the shaku with an ex tatsu,i don't believe i have seen this in your vids,is it something you use? thanks.

    Hmm... I think at 3:14 you did a crouching fierce instead of a standing one. I know both work and it doesn't really matter, but just nitpicking. ^__^

    Then your execution needs work, or you need to stop with that keyboard play.

    of the links you have shown that use lp or lk to initiate the link, which is the easiest to pull off or most lenient on input timing?
    Thanks

    Your videos are amazingly done and well-edited, and they're also one of the reasons why I finally took the jump and ordered my stick.
    Bravo.

    hey my friend was wondering if you can do these akuma combos on a controller...not a arcade stick.. i think u can... but i dont play with akuma. so i wanna know ur take on that.

  • @jamheald
    @jamheald 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    actually gouken can be just as strong and for less meter j.hp hp xx ex dp dash in hk tatsu does over 400 but his normals are pathetic in comparison to Akuma's so is his anti-air.

    Awesome vid, love the overlay with the button inputs and the fact that you replay it a few times with the stick view, input overlays, and an actual vid of the combo itself. Very helpful.

    at 4:56, your c.mpX2, lk tatsu, fierce srk combo only said 5 hits, but its 6 hits(you can hear all 6 hits too), so you messed up the c.mpX2 link. other than that, great vid.
