Paul returns to form with a great trip report. You don't post the most videos but your production quality is always top notch. Thanks for all of the effort you put into these!
Fabulous views on arrival to Tokyo. I hope to do a Japan visit this year, and would like to use JAL after seeing your film. Thank you for a great video highlighting JAL as top brand airline. I'm ready for the experience. Gary in the UK
That’s a lovely looking seat. Good tip on choosing the window seats that are positioned closer to the aisle, so you can still get out of your seat when your tray table is deployed. With the privacy door, you can still get peace and quiet 👌 And what an absolutely fantastic view of Tokyo you had as you made your descent 😮
Took the flight in June. Amazingggggg service. Just blew any business I have taken before. Had aisle on way there and center on way back -- aisle much better but quickly put the middle portion electronically up on take off and never thought of the person next to me. Ordering on screen was cool for snacks and wake up menu and dinner service was good. Love the Japanese menu over the continental one.
Great video Paul! The JAL Biz Class cabin and FOOD ESPECIALLY look GREAT! Also at 1:21 that is called “Cityscapes” and is an art installation by American Airlines debuted in 2013 with major landmark city buildings from all the major cities AA flew to in 2013 from JFK. DFW has a similar “Cityscapes” installation in their American Airlines terminal 🇺🇸 Interesting but useless trivia to be sure! 😅 Cheers mate! 🥂 I CANNOT wait to try Japan Airlines 🇯🇵 or JAL someday especially on their NEW Airbus A350-1000! I am sad that it has now become the flagship over the previous flagship Boeing 777-300ER which I believe you flew last time that you flew on JAL. I still like the B777 and new B777X but the A350 is just a perfect clean sheet design and has been designed to replace the B777 so naturally it has improved upon some things and most importantly has won over many former B777 operators like Singapore 🇸🇬 Air France 🇫🇷 and JAL 🇯🇵 and beat its competitor the B777X to the market. I guess, progress is progress 😂 still, I’m happy to fly on any airplane anywhere and the spectacular seat and fabulous food on Japan airlines, I’m sure is just as good on any of their fleet! 😃 Cheers again, also, the Japan Airlines First Class Suite looks EVEN BETTER which I did not think was possible as the Business class looks pretty amazing! Now I have to go watch the JAL First Class Suite video of yours and continue to dream as I will never be able to afford to fly any Japanese carrier like ANA or JAL 🇯🇵 in ANYTHING better than possibly Premium Economy! 😂 🤑💸 P.S. at 7:38 no booze 🍸 on the ground at JFK has to do with our favorite government tradition here in the USA 🇺🇸 TAXES!!! 😂 Airlines get high taxes for opening alcoholic beverages on the ground within the United States as the drinks do not originate in the country and our subject to import taxes oddly! Why IDK man I’m no lawyer pay your taxes boys and girls! 🤪 😵💫😂
Paul, I am very glad that you used the same background soundtrack from your review of the JAL first class seat. This is my all-time favourite background music now. Many thanks for another great review. JAL definitely needs to allocate a proper space for the drink bottle, in an otherwise amazing business class seat.
Great video! The Tasting Room (which as you say used to be Flagship First Dining) now extends into the former Admirals Club too, which connects it to the Bridge Bar (which also used to be part of the Admirals Club).
Paul that flight was amazing. The photography was stunning and the view spectacular. Brilliant review fantastic aircraft, superb food and one of the most spectacular arrival scenes I have seen coming into HND.
Nice trip report Paul. I haven’t been thru JFK in 10 yrs, but it used to be very crowded n chaotic. So am pleasantly surprised that JFK’s new terminal seems calm, efficient and even relaxing.

From my perspective the Japanese toilet innovation ought to be an universal application on all international flights. Top score for the cuisine on offer. Cheers and thanks for sharing a bit of reality.
Cheers! My return flight (this morning) was a JL 777-300ER which made for a great flight as it was a business-service but in the old first class seats (first isn't sold on this route, yet) so I slept very well :) No vlog, though, since it's an odd combination of J/F product.
@@PaulStewartAviation ah, mate that is just the kind of video that would cheer up a cynical long term traveller. When your luck kicks in, just wallow in it. Well done! Cheers
Excellent review. Personally, I'd prefer the seat right next to the window. For me, the best part of any flight is the view out of the window. And you got some awesome ones on that flight. Other than that, I was very impressed by that seat and everything that came with it. The food looked very interesting and appealing. I'd spend much of the flight sampling as much of it as I could.

@@PaulStewartAviation that makes me really surprised because on the website, the Apex is much wider. I am really glad that JL will bring A35J to LHR in 2024 fiscal year.

Unfortunately they're only flying to America with this aircfart, but they have more on order, so hopefully they'll fly to Europe with it some time.
Hello! I am about to have the same class next month and I am really excited about it. I wonder how do you stabilize your DJI pocket 3 on the window? I check their store and I do not find any mount that can do that. The only one I found is a mount that supports Osmo series instead of the pocket series. Can you please tell me which mount do you use? Thank you.
Since JAL's going to be introducing the A350-1000 to the LHR - HND route some time this year, there's a good chance that I could be flying on the A350 when the time comes to visit Japan for the first time! I'd definitely save up for this :)
I'm jealous Paul, I'm flying Sydney/London return JAL in a couple of weeks in business and wished it was on the A350. It's on the 787 but have the sky suite (apex suite) on both legs so I'm pleased about that as I think It's one of the best seats in the sky for business class and I have the window seat. Great review, I'm really looking forward to the Japanese menu, cheers
I heard that too😅but it’s weird that Green is in the name but it’s “Gren-itch” not like the color🟩 And NYC also has Houston street pronounced “How-Sten” instead of like the Texas city 😜 English is a strange language lol. Another great video 👍
Nice, but Business class without included Wi-Fi seems insulting. There could be rules which I'm unaware of, but there should be no technical reason why you can't use a VPN through the Wi-Fi and in fact many business flyers may need VPNs for connecting to their workplaces. If a VPN doesn't work it means that they're probably blocking all ports except for HTTP/S or something; precisely the kind of situation in which VPNs can serve a useful purpose.
100% agree with you, it's pretty terrible. I've flown this route on the new A350's a few times in the last few weeks and it appears that Panasonic has blocked all/most vpn protocols on their latest sattelite wifi systems. My corporate vpn would not work at all, and even ssh to normal or ephemeral ports would not work. I found one well known global VPN provider who uses a proprietary protocol that did work, but I'm wondering how long that will continue. 100% agree this is a bad look for Panasonic and JAL - i can understand blocking streaming given the bandwidth footprint, but blocking corporate vpn's is just dumb.

My biggest problem is that ANA has premium economy that's usually $1,000 to $1,500 less than what JAL costs. Recognize the fancy seats are nice, but is it really worth that much money? I've already flown to Japan on ANA premium economy so trying to decide for another trip next year
Yeh it's a fair comment as ANA are good. I fly JL because of my One World status but otherwise ANA, as you say, are often cheaper and have a great product.
The plane's acceleration during takeoff and landing always messes with my Osmo Pocket 3 self-leveling when I'm recording out the window with it, I didn't see that happen with your video, did you alter some settings to mitigate that?
I must admit that I used my gopro for the takeoff as I was worried about this. But this was the first landing I filmed with the Osmo and I've turned the self-levelling off. You're right in that otherwise the takeoff is a mess.
@@rod_at_adelaide5766 If there is no demand for first class, JAL won't offer it. Clearly there is demand for first class, whether you think its worth it or not.

@@PaulStewartAviation yep wholly agreed. Also the humour is less staged than it felt for the grand tour, more subtle (like his saying 'so we'll be in a range rover selling small bags of powder', which unless you know is referencing drug dealers just seems like a casual comment, whereas for the grand tour they would have had the car blowing up etc.)
@@shehebehsuebwisshgauwbevsjs yes the humour was pretty poor with the first series of The Grand Tour. It's almost like the BBC moderated Jezza's (sometimes) stupidity. But as TGT matured, it thankfully became more like Top Gear and much funnier.
Am I the only one who’s not a fan of the cloistered suite type of seats? It just feels everything is cramped, crowded. I flew a round trip in a suite and felt really uncomfortable, especially on the redeye leg.
7:35 In Japan, booze/alcohol is shamed upon, and is only appropriate in bars or fine restaurants rather than a daily drink like the West, this also means Japan Airlines refuses to serve alcohol on all their flights

@@shehebehsuebwisshgauwbevsjs yes that's true. I must admit that the episode where they made the car park was very Top Gear-ish. "How hard can it be?" haha. It certainly portray's Clarkson in a better light after his recent gaffes...
JAL is always reliable
If it wasn't for the mediocre IFE content, I would count this as the best business class onboard product in the asia pacific region
Agreed
It’s similar to Q-suites which Qatar have had for years
It’s true, JAL are catching up to QR who are the benchmark,
The bidet 😂
haha at 2:52 maybe some poor guy just left his iMac behind!
:)
Am I the only one who’s not a fan of the cloistered suite type of seats? It just feels everything is cramped, crowded. I flew a round trip in a suite and felt really uncomfortable, especially on the redeye leg.
I found it pretty spacious. Which flight did you take?

I’ve been to 9 countries and I’m 11
I went to Vietnam in 2019
The A350 is not a replacement for a 777. They have totally different functions and markets
How are they different for JAL? The A35K replaces a 777-300er on the hnd-jfk route and the other daily flight on that route is a 777.
there is still any barking dog in A350?
That hydraulic sound?
@@PaulStewartAviation yes, i call it barking dog.
@@dondychristianto783 ah yep I know what you're talking about. Hmmm I don't think I did hear it. It certainly wasn't as noticeable as the A320
@@PaulStewartAviation thats good. the last time i fly with 330 still have a barking dog. i donnt know why boeing donnt have it.
? Price range? They are a good airline, must in the higher level. 🤭
The prices depend on your route and dates. JAL and ANA are relatively cheap for Aussies.
You can sit in business class, why can't I afford it?
Overall, JAL looks pretty uninviting.
Love the video. Can't believe still the mask wearing
Asians always wear masks if they have any respiratory symptoms
I'd starve with that amount of food.
😂
Greenwich is pronounced 'grenich'.
7:35 In Japan, booze/alcohol is shamed upon, and is only appropriate in bars or fine restaurants rather than a daily drink like the West, this also means Japan Airlines refuses to serve alcohol on all their flights
That’s a just wrong. Japan has a huge and problematic reliance on alcohol.
"Grenwich"? It's pronounced "Grenitch".
airbus over boeing anny time
