    The early 90s was a very hopeful time. The end of the cold war meant that everyone was excited about the future. Where enemies became allies. I would go back to that time in a heartbeat.

    Man, those were the days. I'm german, we celebrated new year on top of the Berlin wall. Over night the damocles sword of nuclear destruction just went away, there was so much hope and positve vibes the whole decade after 89. Was a magical time in history.

      YEa, the younger ones can't imagine what a hope full time this was. I remember very well, when i got called to come down and to look TV with the whole family, when the wall broke down and the border got opend. This was the first and last time i saw my father crying like a baby. Later i was sylvester 89/90 in Lithunia and we saw how the UDSSR broke in peaces. I was 20 years old so i remember all of it prity well.
      Sadly now days there are way to many politician who do not understand the worth of peace like Gorbatschow and Bush Sr.

      there is certainly a wind of change in the world today but it is not a hopeful message coming from it!! america is hell bent on taking the west into ww3, along with their lackey subordinates, britain!! history teaches us nothing! we have not learned from ww1 & 2! aligned with religion, they are the perfect deadly mix, which is the cause of so much hate & killing today!!
      nobody seems to want peace talks, only to prolong conflicts!! sadly, john lennon's song, 'imagine' was just a nice little song with lyrics which nobody heeded!!

    The Berlin wall coming down was a very hopeful and happy time for western civilization. I was in 10th grade when this happened & i still fight back literal tears every time i hear and watch this video... especially in light of what's become of our western nations today. ..especially today. 🇺🇸

    There was a lot of hope then. The wall came down. East Germany and East Berlin gone. USSR gone soon after. Czechoslovakia split into noncommunist countries. This song was played continuously.

    This became huge when the iron curtain fell and the Soviet Union broke apart into smaller countries. Around 1990. That was when they had the first ever AMERICAN ROCK CONCERT. They had "this Monster people of rock coming. Was the video of "Enter the sandman" by Metallica. It is the biggest concert in the world. Over 1.6 million people where there rocking to a huge group of hard rock bands from America. It looks INCREDIBLE!!!!😱😱😱😱😱

I've heard it a million times since, seen dozens of reactions on TH-cam... But I'm turning up here, just to leave a like on the video and commend you on your choice of songs to react to.

    The very first time I heard this was while watching a Filipino cover band in Singapore. They nailed it, (including the whistle) I had been at sea so didn't get to hear it before that.
    I LOVE the Scorpions.
    I rock with them, but this my favorite song.

    Today's generation doesn't realize the terror that we all lived during the 50's. 60's, 70's & 80's. The polarity that existed and the fear is always downplayed or forgotten. The JOY that was felt that day of the Reuniting of Germany & the families and culture was a celebration around the World
    Do you know what it feels like to feel 7 billon people celebrating in 24 hrs?

      According to Wikipedia:
      The lyrics were composed by Meine following the band's visit to the Soviet Union at the height of perestroika, when the enmity between the communist and capitalist blocs subsided concurrently with the promulgation of large-scale socioeconomic reforms in the Soviet Union.
      Not about the end of the cold war.

    • @hnorrstrom
      @hnorrstrom หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mikemiller3069So you really mean that Perestroika had nothing to do with the end of the cold war?
      Do you really think they would put numerous references to the Berlin wall throughout the whole video and the unification of Germany without the song being about the end of the cold war?
      The ending of the cold war was pretty much the reason why even western bands were allowed to visit Moscow and play there.
      Clearly that time was a wind of change.
      If they aren't singing about the end of the cold war they simply made the video and lyrics to troll us all.

    • @mikemiller3069
      @mikemiller3069 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@mikemiller3069I see, yes that was the year they started the construction of the Berlin wall to divide Berlin's occupation zones further. And stop people fleeing from the Soviet zone to the western.

    Not a dry eye in Europe when that Berlin wall came down. Germany was reunited and many family members and friends could see each other again. De-nazification was more or less complete. Communist tyranny was on its way out at least prima face. So much hope for a better, more free Europe back then. This song is an amazing time capsule. Sadly, only a few years later, one of the largest exchanges of atrocities between the Serbs and the Bosnians happened in the 90s.
