The native Windows 10 Clipboard History feature is lacking a ton of functionality, so making the switch to one of these tools can save you a ton of time.

    Hello from New York City! How do you get live confirmation of keyboard press on screen? Because my right eyesight is getter blurry compared to the left side. Actually looking for a snippet manager to fill out web forms. The snippets would be common static terms like name, address, phone etc. Similar web based autofill, but more configurable. Like code snippet or auto hot key (AHK) shortcuts, they do not expire or get deleted from the clipboard manager. Any clues appreciated. Very informative video. Appreciate it. Thank you.

    • @deadlydog
      @deadlydog  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there, to show key presses on the screen I use software called Carnac (github.com/Code52/carnac); I've had issues with the official version though, so I use a forked version (github.com/bfritscher/carnac/releases). You can use groups in Ditto (not shown in the video) to hold things like common Name, Address, Phone number, etc. so that they're grouped together and easily accessible. If it's your personal info though that you're filling out on web forms, you may be happier with something like LastPass, which is a password manager, but can also autofill web forms with your information. There's many other browser extensions as well for automatically filling in web forms if you do a search for them. Hope that helps.

    Hello Daniel.
    Is there a way to store the hotkey in the same order.
    What I would like is that, when I use the first hotkey I always get the same text. Now the last cut/copy will be at the top of the list.

    • @deadlydog
      @deadlydog  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can right-click on the clip you want to always have at the top, then choose Clip Order -> Make Top Sticky Clip. Now that clip will always be in the first position. You can use the Sticky Clip options to have many different clips stick to the top of the list so that they are always in the same position.

      The blue line means that you've pasted that clip from Ditto at least once; So if you scroll through your list you can easily see which clips you've used Ditto for. You can disable it by going into the Options -> General tab -> Advanced button and changing the "Show indicator a clip has been pasted" setting to False.

    How do I "Paste selected Plain Text" using a keyboard shortcut even if the clipboard window of Ditto is not active?
    Because "Paste selected Plain Text" using a keyboard shortcut is not done unless the Clipboard window is active? Thanks.

    • @deadlydog
      @deadlydog  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Instead of using "Paste selected Plain Text" in the Options -> Quick Paste Keyboard tab, use "Text Only Paste" in the Options -> Keyboard Shortcuts tab. This one allows you to paste whatever is on the clipboard as plain text, even if the Ditto window is not open or active.

    • @yfjuu6
      @yfjuu6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@deadlydog But this option "Text Only Paste" cannot be assigned to the specefic shortcut "Alt+n" or "Alt + any other key", whereas "Paste selected Plain Text" can be customized as a keyboard shortcut "Alt+n" for this option.

    • @deadlydog
      @deadlydog  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@yfjuu6 I just tried and it does let me assign "Alt+n" to the "Text Only Paste", however when I attempt to use it in an application it does not work, as pressing the Alt key takes you into the apps Menu bar. So I think the issue is that the Alt key is reserved in Windows for the current application's menu bar. I guess it works in the "Paste selected Plain Text" field because that has to be used with Ditto active, and Ditto does not have a menu bar (most apps do though). You can use "Ctrl+Alt+n" though or a different key combo in the "Text Only Paste". Hopefully that helps.

    Does Ditto have "After Paste" funtion? For ex. I want to let Ditto execute a specific Action (a Shortcut, like Alt+X) immediately after Pasting in the current cursor position (in the opened software).
    if Yes, how to do it? and also can I assign it to ONLY a specific Group?

    • @deadlydog
      @deadlydog  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does, but I haven't played around with it yet myself to know exactly how it works or what its limitations are. You go into the Options and then hit the Advanced button, and in the Advanced Options there you'll find "On Copy Scripts" and "On Paste Scripts" buttons. You can click those buttons to go in and setup scripts to run after you copy or paste, along with web links to the documentation and some examples.

    • @deadlydog
      @deadlydog  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Ahmad, as soon as you open Ditto (either via the keyboard shortcut or using your mouse) you can just start typing and it will automatically search.
      As for automatically expanding text (e.g. "sc" => "screenshot") I don't believe Ditto does that natively, but you can use AutoHotkey for that functionality (it's called a hotstring in AHK), and you can have hotstrings apply only to certain apps, like Ditto, or everywhere in Windows. Here's the link for more info: www.autohotkey.com/docs/Hotstrings.htm

    • @deadlydog
      @deadlydog  ปีที่แล้ว

    • @deadlydog
      @deadlydog  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yup, if you go into the Options window and the Quick Paste Keyboard tab, look for the `Paste Add One Line Feed` command and assign it a hot key 👍

    • @ParanoidxSniper
      @ParanoidxSniper ปีที่แล้ว

      @@deadlydog hmm i must be doing something wrong nothing is changing.. i set it to a hotkey

    • @deadlydog
      @deadlydog  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ParanoidxSniper I just tried it myself and it's a bit nuanced, and using the GUI controls first helps understand it better. If I use the GUI, by right-clicking on one of the Ditto clips and choosing Special Paste -> Paste + One Line Feed, then pasting adds the newline character after the paste as expected. So that hotkey we assign is not a global hotkey, it's just to be used when you have Ditto open. Also, it does not itself paste the clip, it just enables the "Paste + One Line Feed" option for you so you do not have to go manually enable it yourself with the mouse. Now that I tried it out myself I can see it's not quite what you're looking for. I assumed it was a global hotkey for pasting text and adding a newline at the end, but that's not the case.
      So I think Ditto can still do what you want, but it's not just an easy setting that you can just toggle on. If you go into the Options -> Advanced Options -> On Paste Scripts window, you are able to add custom ChaiScript scripts to perform additional options when you paste text. There is a link there that shows some examples as well. You can probably write a script to insert the newline character after pasting the clip. I haven't played with these at all myself yet though, so I'm not certain how straight-forward it will be to do what you need, and possibly assign it to a global hotkey so it doesn't happen for EVERY paste.

    How to copy all the clipboard history completely.. help me

    • @deadlydog
      @deadlydog  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use Ctrl+A to select all of the entries in Ditto and then Ctrl+C to copy them. That allows you to copy everything that Ditto has in it's list and then paste it wherever you like. Note though that if you have like 10,000+ entries in your Ditto clipboard history, it's going to copy/paste a massive amount of data.

      Hmmm, which keyboard bindings are you referring to? The 3 to activate it? Or others for accessing items on the clipboard. If you look in the Options in the Keyboard Shortcuts tab and Quick Paste Keyboard tab you'll see there are a lot of keyboard shortcut options. If you're talking about how many keyboard shortcuts you can configure to open the main window though, yeah, it only allows you to specify 3 different ones. Why do you need more than that? I'm not aware of any other applications that offer more than that, but there are other ways to configure keyboard shortcuts in Windows itself that you could leverage to launch Ditto.
