The thing I remember most about this game is that if you slow down your battery gradually loses its charge. As the game progresses there are more and more of those extremely narrow roads where you must slow down, until eventually it's really hard to keep your battery going without having a crash.
I borrowed this game from a girl who lived in my street. About 1983 and I must have been about 6 I guess. I just remember being gutted when I had to give it back (didn't know how to copy tapes at that age haha). Funny how I still remember the crash sound exactly
There was a cheat / bug on this game where at a crossroads you could slow almost to a stop, go over to the left hand side of the screen and actually go off the edge, and then speed up and avoid all of the obstacles. Bit boring though.
I remember playing this many times at a friend's house. Fun to play even if the graphics were a bit basic. At least the sound effects were good for the day. Running over some glass (the purple spots on the road) would have a realistic "hiss" sound.
Holy crap ... this fired neurons I forgot I had. Thanks for jogging my memory.
This was the first computer game that I bought for my new Commodore 64 that I got in 1984. Awesome. Still the best computer game ever.

Oh yes there was. It was always tricky trying to get back at the next crossroads to refuel though.
