@Epoch plus5 the part where you defend the man limping with the crutch... If you accidentally shoot him while defending him, he says "hey, don't shoot me!"
I love how it was used purposefully here, too. The man is temporarily invincible in his "Don't shoot me" animation. That grenade dropped on him would have assuredly killed him but for that.
I remember the level in the cave throwing knives, there was a way to throw the knives quickly enough to that after the first hit the guy says "You can't hurt me...ugh, ugh, ugh...arrrgggghhhh" My cousin and I used to repeat the words all the time and no one knew what the hell we were talking about lol.
Man... such memories. Especially the last stage with TF2 Sniper having a knife battle with Santa Claus over a river of oil on docks that lead nowhere. My brother and I spent so many hours on this game as kids.
something about all those little bullet holes (dots) and the good animation of the little soldier sprites. I thought this game had really detailed graphics back then lol
Remember when you first SAW a video game? I remember how much PacMan and Asteroids blew me away. Now I'm an electrical engineer and there's NOTHING magical about anything on a computer or a computer screen. Once you understand it, all the neat mystery goes away. Oh well.
Epic scream when tank rolls over :D It was also possible to slow that guy if an enemy on top was about to hit him by shooting the walker. He didn't die to it but screamed like hell "Hold your fire! Please, I mean it!". Sounds are brilliant, never got bored to this.
I like both parts of this game. But this one takes the cake because you could actually 1v1 this game. Great game! Also, that death scream is just iconic. I still wonder: was it recorded with a real voice actor? Or is it purely artificially coded?
On watching this I only remember playing the first and last levels. I remember trying to do some sprite animations to mimic those soldiers hopping over the last wall when I made my own C64 games. Really cool!
I used to love the "Hey, don't shoot ME!" on the second wave. This game has a respectable amount of digitized content, both audio (speech) and video (some troop animations). _Beach Head 1_ is also excellent. Hard but not impossible, which I like.
I played this game a lot as a kid. I remember this very well except I have no memory of the “escape” sequence at all. I think maybe because my disk was corrupted and that part caused it to crash.
Yeaah this is exactly what I meant. :) I still have a whole bunch of floppy discs and cassettes and both of the drives, but my c64 is broken. I need to buy a working one somewhere and hope the floppies still work :))
You can move the turret faster if you don't fire all the time. It's funny though, I'd never want to play this game again. It's like I'm an entirely different person now than I was as a kid.
Yes I remember that too. It would act like it copied just fine and when you tried to load it a stern message about pirating would scroll on the screen. My buddy and I had copied many games until this one and our jaws just dropped when we read the “lecture” about copying games. 🤣
one of the reasons this game is one of the all time epic games its because it was one of the first computer games ever to incorporate speech, it was also a decent game in its time I have to say the guy in the vid is not very good, u can shoot those heads in the first wall. a good player would not loose any turrets in this round.
@@MrPanacea999 also if nobody gets by the gun first round, there is no second, third, or 4th round at all! Dictator wins. Only reason you can even win at all is because the computer is a lil slow, and can't aim perfectly before pressing fire.
Did anyone else spot the "ARRRRGH!" taken from Impossible Mission on the final stage? Also... knife throwing across water.. WTF did that have to do with WWII?
I'll always remember my Dad and Grandpa saying 'Follow me men' and 'Medic' when they were in the pub, they used to find that so funny!
The possibility of choosing the side, synthetized voice and the gameplay make this game epic
Oh how i loved this game. "PLEASE! DON'T SHOOT ME!" is right up there with "ANOTHER VISITOR.." as far as the absolute classic lines from C64 go!
I always liked in the knife fighting part when we'd both get the final hit at the same time.
Lol "you can't hurt me" "aaaaahhhh"
7:08 One of my favorite video game screams.
See also: Impossible Mission.
i would laugh so hard when he get run over by the tank, his screams is so long
yes, it's great. such pain
Destroy him my tank!!!!!
Such memories. "YOU CAN'T HURT ME!"
THe best part of this game, that you can play all stages against someone else in 1vs1, which was a lot more fun.
something about all those little bullet holes (dots) and the good animation of the little soldier sprites. I thought this game had really detailed graphics back then lol

Apparently the Beach Head games take place in a world where personal firearms were never invented.
Man, this game was awesome! It's the first asynchronous multiplayer game I remember.
4:14 I love how when the soldiers destroy the turret, they're like "It's cool, we'll wait for you to replace it before we continue attacking."
Holy crap I've been trying to remember the name of this game for years. I LOVED this game. I would play it endlessly.
I used to love playing this with my dad..
that AaaaahhhhhAAaaahh on 15:36 is the same as the AaaaahhhhhAAaaahh in Mission Impossible ;)
I knew I heard that before!!!
It sure sounds like the same sample. Wonder if it really is? Seems odd, as the games are from different devs.
@@drlegendre But the speech is probably from the same company.
hey - don't shoot me!
I was 7 years old when this came out, but I didn't have access to a C64. But wow, this is so cool. 😊
this game was really fun to play!
Lol, the allies destroy the machine gun, but wait for it to be replaced before running again.
Epic scream when tank rolls over :D It was also possible to slow that guy if an enemy on top was about to hit him by shooting the walker. He didn't die to it but screamed like hell "Hold your fire! Please, I mean it!". Sounds are brilliant, never got bored to this.
Hey! Don't shoot me!
Ha ha! Saving Private 8 Pixel! And the epic knife fight at the end.
Used to play this game a lot!. :D
unreal memories, what a game
Sometimes the dictator would hit you, get hit fatally on the same turn, then chuckle 'heh heh heh' while keeling over
One of those games I used to to love, but probably haven't thought of for the last 25 years.
"you can't hurt me!" Has been playing on repeat in my head for 30 years
Why does this game remind me so much of Raid Over Moscow?
“Don’t shoot meee!”
Nostalgia of the highest degree
that MIDI machine gun is the most badass sound Ill ever hear
I like both parts of this game. But this one takes the cake because you could actually 1v1 this game. Great game!
Also, that death scream is just iconic. I still wonder: was it recorded with a real voice actor? Or is it purely artificially coded?
It uses ESS (Electronic Speech Systems), a highly compressed format.
On average, 1 sec of audio needs around half a kilobyte of RAM.
One of my favourites. Up there with Bruce Lee and wonder Boy.
What a brilliant game. I must have played this a lot because I remember much of it still.
love this game, smells like victory!
You can't hurt me!
I find Beach Head (1) much more special, especially the atmosphere. But this is of course fun as well (and has some innovative elements).
Wow, I must've played this hundreds of times as a kid and I never knew you could bomb that gun in the first stage.
Ah, the knife fights.
It is like a Metal Gear boss fight
I'm hit! Medic! Waaaaahh! Burp!
+robin tremblay Hey! Don't shoot me!
Beach Head 1 & 2 were bot epic games
So was raid over mosscow and spy hunter and loads more 😅
I played this with my Dad once, and he totally got it on his 1st go!
On watching this I only remember playing the first and last levels. I remember trying to do some sprite animations to mimic those soldiers hopping over the last wall when I made my own C64 games. Really cool!
Oh my god i love this game =) I really want a remake of this fantastic game =) Tnx for the vid. Best memories
Wow this game is so much better on the c64 than the Atari version.
I seem to have missed another legendary game. I love the screams and some animations are pretty bad ass...
oh I remember those voices!
I used to love the "Hey, don't shoot ME!" on the second wave. This game has a respectable amount of digitized content, both audio (speech) and video (some troop animations). _Beach Head 1_ is also excellent. Hard but not impossible, which I like.
For the longest time we thought the Battle mission guy said, "You can't hat me!" Hahaha.
Also love, "Hey, Don't shoot me!" from Rescue mission.
Brilliant sequel
Decades later amd I never noticed the Wilhelm scream is the same here as in impossible mission.
I played this game a lot as a kid. I remember this very well except I have no memory of the “escape” sequence at all. I think maybe because my disk was corrupted and that part caused it to crash.
i played beach head 2 on my c64 in the mid 80s for countless hours, but i remember the graphics and sound being different in many ways?
Yeaah this is exactly what I meant. :) I still have a whole bunch of floppy discs and cassettes and both of the drives, but my c64 is broken. I need to buy a working one somewhere and hope the floppies still work :))
Hahh those arnold schwarzenegger yells were always so funny
Oh yea the KNIFE FIGHT :D
... MEDIC.... UAUAHHH......
You can't hurt me! Ugh! Ugh!
The two player game on this was amazing
"MEDIC!" "I'M HIT!"
HOLY $HIT Ive been screaming "MEDIC!" for years. I guarantee no one knew what the hell i was talking about.
nice shootin' tex..
I’m hit! and Medic! Priceless.
Loved this game! Though at the age I was at, I pretty much sucked at every game mode
This game was so regal!
You can move the turret faster if you don't fire all the time. It's funny though, I'd never want to play this game again. It's like I'm an entirely different person now than I was as a kid.
I miss the knife fight over the river....memories.
Iirc machine gun went slower if you fired
I remember making a backup of this and it had copy protection, and would give you a message when you tried to run it.
Yes I remember that too. It would act like it copied just fine and when you tried to load it a stern message about pirating would scroll on the screen. My buddy and I had copied many games until this one and our jaws just dropped when we read the “lecture” about copying games. 🤣
nice, they run faster than machine gun
Secretly we let the tank run the guy over at least once to hear that death scream
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!
I remember the hostages would walk faster on the prison level the more you shot up the 3 doors.
Wonder if any of you know the song that plays at the beginning of the game?
It's the Marines' Hymn - the anthem of the United States Marine Corps.
16:39 What happened in the fifth inning? Sent in a relief knife thrower from the farm system?
We're the pride of South Australia...
This is way better than the Atari version.
one of the reasons this game is one of the all time epic games its because it was one of the first computer games ever to incorporate speech, it was also a decent game in its time
I have to say the guy in the vid is not very good, u can shoot those heads in the first wall. a good player would not loose any turrets in this round.
The player is the soldiers in the first round (note the big arrow saying "Player" at 0:46 ) - the computer is controlling the turret.
@@MrPanacea999 also if nobody gets by the gun first round, there is no second, third, or 4th round at all! Dictator wins.
Only reason you can even win at all is because the computer is a lil slow, and can't aim perfectly before pressing fire.

mayday ! :)
15:40 The score board looks like a baseball score board :)
Mad egg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:-)
The game won't start on VICE emulator. I already downloaded it multiple times from different websites. FAIL.
Have to release the trigger to swing the turret faster...
Is there playing a blind one???
"The Dictator Strikes Back" sounds awfully like "The Empire Strikes Back"....
That's really sticking and moving
MEDIC!! IM HIT!!! WAWAWAWAWA!!! ...puh...
Buh! Buh! Buh! Ahhhhhhhh!
The best place is Ebay...
16:28
The Dictator Strikes back!
I don*t understand why these is Beach Head 2. The first one was Beach Head but this one should be called AirHead.
18:02 Trump vs Biden 2020?
your really bad at this game...seriously
7:08 same scream from falling in impossible mission!
