What’s the alternative? It didn’t seat enough people, was in disrepair, and was not up to NCAA D1 standards. Plus outdoor football in Upstate NY is miserable in November
Wow-Thanks for this!!! I just found it during the country shut in at age 66! Sadly 2 years after my wife passed away in the year we both retired. Now with some time and getting older you rend to look back. I do recall the huge Penn State -Syracuse games being played there. They (SU football) were not on TV much if at all. I lived downstate so maybe when you hit Binghamton you would get their games? That was fun with the players and the last game vs Navy being followed through to the end. What an old Rockpile Archbold was- a tough strong blue collar stadium in that same type of city. I found it funny how they would run recruits away from the place. I wish I had made it to a game up there. It was only 3 hours upstate from where I lived but I guess that was too much a drive for my Dad to go see a game. We would always catch Syracuse @ West Point. I would have loved to have gone to college there but their academic requirements for admission were pretty tough if I recall and surely beyond me. I think the tuition in the 70s was an insanely high $7K or thereabouts as it was a private University. I may be wrong on that but the state school I ended up at was maybe about $2k.
@@Daisyno2 The only people who call it Arch-i-bold are the younger folks that talk about it but were too young, mostly 80's generation people, it is ARCHBOLD no i, some old timer's nick-named it "Archie" which could of been picked up from that, too. I lived in Cuse forever and I even hear people from here call it Archibold. My one and only game: 1978, Cuse upset the #14 ranked Navy Midshipmen, I watched as my ass was frozen to my seat, lol
This was a project my fraternity brother at Theta Chi, Bruce Bertrand worked on.
I was there as a child. It was the first football game I ever went to.
Absolutely criminal to knock down something that beautiful for a stupid dome....
amen

Love it! I was at that last game as a nine year old!
They should of never moved to the dome. Archbold Stadium gave a legit home field advantage.
I was at this last game and still have my ticket stub! Sec 4, Row 12, Seat 12. :)
Thank you! I went to games at both Archbold and the Carrier Dome and this piece captures a nice transition.
