They also claim they are the best stealth but a syrian s200 shot a israel f35, israels claim the f35 hit by bird. Is all over internet news 3 years ago. But you free to believe whatever you want.

    I feel like with the stealths you might as well have an altitude and speed advantage. You don’t need to hide in terrain & you’ll get better missiles if any lower opponent gets close enough to see you.

      Yup, this is just silly.
      "BVR" but everyone is just hiding behind *buildings* and using super-zoom Mk.II eyeball.
      Then again, DCS's poor radar and missile mechanics does incentivise 3rd-gen Vietnam-style flying.
      Even peer-to-peer 4th-gen combat, with the official "PFM Modules", devolves into this weird ground-hugging pseudo anti-Fox-2 gameplay.
      It's exactly what I'd expect if you just took the 3rd-gen aircraft and their unreliable rear-aspect Fox-2 missiles from the Vietnam era, and simply made them faster, more maneuverable and cooler looking, while keeping the tech and tactics essentially unchanged.
      Radar guided Fox-1 missiles are essentially just clones of the Fox-2s, replacing flares with chaff and putting the seeker on the aircraft, but keeping the fundamental tech and tactics the same.
      The introduction of Fox-3s into this ecosystem would obviously prove extremely deadly for the ground-huggers (just look at how the playerbase complains about Fox-3s being too good, unfair and 'not fun').
      So the Fox-3s were simply given a gamified exploit that allowed those same Vietnam-era tactics to be used against even the fastest, highest Fox-3 launch, thereby nullifying any advantage that building and keeping your energy up, being disciplined and respecting standoff distances, or even just practicing and knowing your timelines, etc. would have given the 4th-gen pilot.

      @@mortlet5180 it's a difficult thing as we have to acknowledge that it's a game first and a sim second so it makes me wonder if they should just offer an option on the missles server side for if you want them totally realistic or gameified

    • @mortlet5180
      @mortlet5180 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@pottyputter05 What I wouldn't give to have "full-fidelity" missile modules that we could buy.
      Yes this could easily be controlled on a per-server basis, but I don't think that's the issue here.
      Think about it, IRL Air-to-Air missiles (AAMs) don't need to hit you and they almost never miss by very small distances, like we often see in DCS. This is exactly why missile designers are willing to degrade the kinematics, range and the maneuverability of their missiles so much to put large explosive warheads on (reference the payload in The Rocket Equation), when even just the supersonic missile impact and subsequent internal detonation of 1-2kg of RDX would be enough to neutralize most modern lightweight fighters.
      ED pushes to achieve the most "Realism", while actively ignoring any classified information (and even unclassified or declassified info if it didn't come with explicit, verifiable and written permission to publicly disseminate said information).
      While this seems sound in principle, in practice they misuse it as an excuse to keep inaccurate or even completely unrealistic things in DCS. They even use it to actively ignore (or in some cases even completely revert it after the fact) multiple, fairly reliable (but not up to their 'standards') sources of information, even when it's obvious that DCS is lacking in that area and that no better source of that specific info is freely available either.
      One very visible example of this, as it relates to AAMs in DCS, is Proximity Fusing. It is common knowledge (or at least easily verifiable) that kinetic "Hit-to-Kill" interceptor guidance, compared to using an explosive warhead which only requires guidance to get somewhere within tens to hundreds of meters (depending on warhead size, altitude, etc.) of the target, has been a *much* more difficult and less reliable technique until (arguably) very recently.
      However, even with the AAMs we currently have in DCS and all their problems, ED have decided that it is more 'realistic' to have fighters 'defeat' active radar homing missiles, that came to within 15m (~50ft) of them, by literally out turning the missile (not decoying, masking or otherwise confusing the seeker). Sometimes the fighters are even flying so close and parallel to their persuing missiles that it seems like formation flying.
      ED insists that this is better and more realistic than having lagging/de-synced players die from a missile that they never saw hitting them.
      This doesn't make much sense as players are then able to exploit all manner of network issues (high latency, variable latency, packet drops, duplicate packets, etc.) to get a very significant edge. Indeed this lag-teleporting phenomenon was already widely observed years ago when this topic of proximity fusing was being actively discussed.
      Considering the past and current rate of progress on this, I have absolutely no hope of getting even semi-realistic proxy fusing in DCS withh the next 5-10 years. However, if we ever do get it, you can bet that they will nerf the missiles so that the proxy fusing doesn't suddenly result in a much higher Pk or substantially decrease those Hollywood-worthy, high-G near-misses!

    Amazing flying Grump. What's crazy is that's exactly what you see from the Russian pilots from Telegram videos taken by witnesses on the ground. Both their Su-35's and even attack aircraft like their Su-25's are keeping super lower altitudes, and then only pop up to fire, launch a salvo of flares, and hit the deck again. There's actually about 4-5 videos of Su-25's doing this, and I think about 2 of the Su-35's, that I've personally seen. I understand AESA isn't modeled, but people need to realize that Russian and other nations like India who are flying the PESA equipped Sukhoi's & MiG's have been doing training against AESA equipped adversaries, and have still had success, so tactics have been developed and employed. Not to mention the Russians relying on their IRST sensor more than most nations.

      On the other hand F-22 is being kept under wraps when it comes to some functions. To my understanding they limited the pilots from taking part in international excercises, since the pilots aren't allowed to use all of the plane's abilities when other countries are present. Operating with limited abilities lead to some bad habits forming so they put a stopper on it.

  • @markbreton1620

    "Grump doesn't have a stealth fighter"
    Doesn't matter in DCS since ED has not clue what stealth means in regard to low observables aircraft.
    EW and ATC radar have no problem seeing stealth fighters (the tails B2 is a different story). Radar that is accurate enough for fire control has a big problem seeing (and targeting) stealth aircraft.
    Also, the SU-57 is loaded with right angles that render it no more stealthy than an F16.
    And then there is the US doctrine of using the F22 and F35 going radar silent, the F35 finds targets with its EO sensors, F22 fires missiles in the direction provided by the F35 which then datalinks the missiles to the targets. No radar required at any point. But as that is a technology from the last 20 years I don't expect ED to understand that. Heck they still have AGM-88 acting like AGM-45, going stupid when the radar is turned off and ignoring their INS.
    DCS is a really good attempt at a flight simulator, but they have cut too many corners for it to be considered realistic. They should give their aircraft fantasy names and stop trying to push them off as the real thing. Flight models are accurate enough, but damage modeling is too generic across aircraft and weapon systems are buffed or nerfed to make it not really matter.

    Recent thing i learned about the su-57 is it has nearly the same indentical side profile as a yf-23. The russians definitly were checking out those yf-23s when we had them just sitting out in the sun. We should of atleast put them indoors. But its stealth profile from the rear is basically non existant on the su-57. And thats where the YF-23 excels over any fighter, basically to this day. Its giant tails that were the size of an f-35 wing alone gave them impressive performance without the need of vectoring. And the flat underside also helped. They were going mach 1.8-2.0 while the raptor hit 1.56 tops.

      - The thing about side profile and YF-23 being left in the sun makes no sense.
      - Thrust vectoring will always be better for maneuvers, especially at low speed, when wings don't receive enough air.
      - The YF-23 tails were so big because they combined vertical and horizontal surfaces. In plan view, they look normally sized.
      - No point in going faster than the F-22, since stealth coatings degrade with high speed temperatures.

I think if the F-35 stood off and let the raptor engage the Su-35 it's superior radar will help track the Felon especially if it gives its rear its lowest stealth aspect. overall good fight and great video keep em coming

    Before watching this, I can of think this is an uneven match up. 2 stealth crafts vs 1 stealth and 1 normal, as much as I love the Flanker, it is an awesome aircraft, stealth alone states it should be targeted and shot down, way before it gets anywhere near the F-22 and F-35 to take a shot. As much I would to watch the Russian's piss all over the USA, in this match, having 2 aircraft that can close to serious distance with out being ''seen'' is too much of an advantage.
    The SU-57, either flies formation with the flanker, in which case, it's position is known from a great distance, or it bugs out and leaves the flanker in which case, the flanker should be shot down in minutes, leaving a 2 v 1 case.
    EDIT: Ok I take that back. The flanker, that was some damn good flying, thought those buildings, impressive.

The other problem is that those radars are very big and not particularly mobile so they make easy to find targets that would be prime candidates for cruse missile strikes and SEAD missions in the opening hours of a conflict.

    The biggest problem I have with this simulation is that you are giving the Russian stealth fighters the same visibility and detection properties as the American fighters. From what I have read, that is not the case. The Russians would be disadvantaged

    • @GoBzi

      The biggest problem with this simulation + comments like yours is that we don't actually know how any of these work. Obviously we have a rough idea, but we can't know how exactly F-35/Su-57 work, so you can't say the Russians/Americans would have an advantage/disadvantage.

  • @djzoodude
    @djzoodude 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    So yeah, as mentioned by others, the Su-57 is not really a stealth aircraft. It has an RCS of between 0.1 and 1 m2. About the same as a Super Hornet or Typhoon. But that isn't even the biggest problem. The Russians still don't have any missiles it can carry internally. The missiles it's supposed to carry are versions of the modernized Adders and Archers the Su-35 carries, but with smaller control surfaces to fit in the internal bays. Unfortunately, they are still in development. So as of right now, the Su-57 would need external racks to fight BVR, making it even less stealthy.
    Just speculation on my part, but is it actually confirmed that the Su-57 actually has functional internal weapons bays? Like we've seen F-35s, F-22s, and even J-20s with their bays open and/or firing a missile from their bays, but have we ever seen a Su-57 with its bays open? We know the Russians claim it has bays, but the Russians are known liars...

    • @watcherzero5256
      @watcherzero5256 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When they sent the Su-57 to Syria to conduct bombing missions they hadnt even finished the weapons management interface, they were literally using slide rules to work out where the manually released dumb bombs would land. Not that accuracy and collateral damage was something they ever cared about.

      @djzoodude 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ferrous3262 I think you misunderstood what I was saying. Yes, the US developed modified missiles to fit in the internal weapons bays of the F-22 and F-35. What I am saying is that the Russians haven't done so yet. So the Su-57 can't carry its missiles internally like the F-35 or F-22.

    What I would find super interesting, to see how they would perform if you add S-400, AWACS, Patriot, Pantsir,...
    In a conflict those systems will work together and a 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 2 is rare.
    While I think that in an offensive role the F-22 and F-35 are superior to the SU-57 and SU-35.
    I think that in a defensive role (or close to there own frontline) where the Russians are supported by there AWACS, S-400, Pantsir, BUK, TOR, Krasukha (electronic warfare system),...
    the US would get there ass handed to them.

      @@MICLakVER Could be.
      However if you use stealth and use a radar (or any other active system) you give away your position.
      So in a steath fighter you need an AWACS to be your radar and than using a secure data link you get the data.
      I think that a Karasukha could jam this link between the AWACS and steath fighter and make the fighter blind.
      It could still use it's passive scanners.
      Maybe I am completly wrong.
