I found your tuning videos and just downloaded a free tuner app on my phone and used the frequencies from the tunebot website. Wow what a difference. My kit sounds so much better than just tuning by ear. Never would have tried tuning by frequencies if I didn’t find your videos and I don’t think I will ever go back now. Thank you!
4:23 Top Head 130hz 6:21 Bottom Head 260hz Perfect video! Thank you. Just tried rack and floor toms based off your videos and they sound better than ever!
I always tune my tom heads the same, the reso maybe a hair more, but I love it, and in studio, especially if you're using heads with reinforcement rings, or moon gels, I don't find it's crazy ringy at all, you just might need to control it a bit sometimes, like I say a moon gel, maybe a little tape on the bottom, or some cotton balls in a floor tom for instance. I just almost always prefer it to a cranked reso, because with a tight reso you really get that weird diving sound. All I'm saying is, tuning them the same doesn't make the tom like a gong, or as crazy ringy as people say, it's usually super manageable.
I have a 13” C&C Tom that I couldn’t get to sound the way I wanted. Threw a new Remo coated ambassador on it today and watched your video. It now sounds amazing!
Thanks so much for this- I have had maple drums in 13x9 and 16x16 since 1967- Ludwig Super Classics in my case- I have always tuned them a bit up (mostly Jazz Fusion) with a 4th interval between the heads- I needed a bit more "thwak" for a recording this week and having the reso head an octave up seemed odd at first but I dialed the 13x9 in on a "C" (about 130)and the octave up on the bottom- sounds great- really sings and jumps out in the mix.
Hi Jared, I have a 13" tom and a 16" floor tom. I've been struggling for centuries to tune the 13" (tried all the techniques found on the net). And then, I saw your video. 130 Hz and 260 Hz worked like magic, it never sounded this good before! 🙂 Oh by the way, what frequencies would you recommend for a 16" floor tom? Thank you so much.
1:40 “surprisingly you can tune the bottom head low, crank the top head up.” But then you tune the TOP head low and crank the bottom up. I think you said it backwards at 1:40
Just wanted to say, your tuning on your drums is awesome! I've tried using Elevation Worship settings and another one and the drums just sound terrible for what we have. Tuning the top and bottom with different Hz has made our toms sound incredible!

Tyler! That is so great to hear :) glad they helped you

Recently I have loved 22-13-16 set!!!
Additionally, their best heads: ONYX and EQ3 Clear (just my opinion)
I download the app and it was impressive but yesterday it stops working :( hope they can fix it

I wish you would have played it some more. Barely got to hear it and sounds like its really good.
Hi Jared! Thanks for everything!!
Any hints for 12 TOM?
Maybe B - 162
R - 324 ?
I would start a little lower, Maybe Batter at 150 hz and Reso at 285hz :) let me know how it sounds!

Whoops :) Good catch!

That’s great to hear :) so many different ways to approach tuning and I’m glad this worked for you!
great content!
What apps did you use?
Drum Tune Pro
Great video. What frequencies would you use for a 12” rack tom? Thanks.
Hey Dave, this guide has helpful starting points for most dimensions - tune-bot.com/tuning-guide/
Sounds dead.
Not.
In my opinion it sounds like they added a lot of extra editing to make it sound like this lol
