Dream kit...the one I already have. TAMA Imperialstar. I wanted it before I got it, I dreamt of it, then got it 15 years ago. My first and only kit. I’m very blessed that I got the only kit I ever wanted and haven’t ever cared for another.
i have an idea, take the treadle from an old singer sewing machine table and hook it up to 8 kick drums in a v8 fashion...as the treadle is operated like a stomp box to maintain rhythem, the drums are fired in a sequential pattern like a v8 which could be revved up and down by speeding up the pumping
I bought the element evolution kit a couple years ago. Great drum set for the price! I put remo coated ambassador heads on and the drums sound pretty amazing. Hope to hear how they sound playing with a band someday soon but for now playing at home for me has been very satisfying. Rock on!
Hole in the center kills more overtones and sustain. A hole just large enough for your mic choice close to the side seems to let the front head interact more. A big hole in the center can sound like if there was no head at all...good for an old school R&B sound. It does make a big difference. Big hole in the center vs small hole off to the side.
Yes, any change to the drumhead will affect the sound and the feel, postition and size of a port hole as well. I recommend to have 2 reso heads for the bass drum; one ported and another without the port and select them as appropriate for the gigs (miked vs. unmiked situations, genre of music etc.).
jep, they really should have delved into that more. major flaw of this video. it's just physics, a hole in the middle will not make that thing vibrate like it does when theres more solid in the middle. should have made a sound comparison
I cut a thick yoga mat into a trapezoid shape so it touches both heads. Shorter side on the batter head. It's flexible so it touches the shell all along the bottom. Makes it the perfect amount of punch and takes out all the basketball sound
Great Video as usual Thank You. One thing I never hear mentioned, although you did it, is that when initially tightening the tension rods on a Kick Drum it is important to have the Claw Hooks sitting level on the Hoop. This way the Claw Hook is pulling down on the Hoop's edge across the entire surface area. This is especially important if you are tuning high with a lot of tension with wood hoops so as to not create a depression in the hoop's edge from one side of the claw. As I said I saw you do it properly, but it wasn't articulated.
This would certainly have been a killer bass drum sound in the 70s. It"s ok but now we are used to even punchier sounds. As already mentionned: no hole in the center of the head. I'd like to add that the Evans EQ Pad is better on the batter head. The small moving part is made to be pushed by the hit of the pedal and then cut the vibration when coming back on the head. Meanwhile, the reso head gives the sustain Also, other brands than Luwig or Gretsch build more punchy shells. Difficult to get a modern punchy sound with drums made in a vintage way.
Awesome - that's not only my set, but the same color. My kick right now sounds like I'm smacking a trashcan with a wet carp. Not a pleasant sound. Hope this will help.

I could watch this guy all day playing and tuning....🥁
Really enjoying this series! So important!
Loving these recent drum videos. Great job everyone involved.

Great idea thanks
What a great video series! And it's nice to hear an eight-lug 22" bass drum, which sounds nice and round.

I just went electronic with a Roland kicker and module. No more issues no matter what size room I’m in.
Clear and concise information that’s easy to understand. Nice job guys!
Holmon front head lower right side cube had in the drum touching either head. Gretsch New Classic 22 x 18.
I put a folded beach towel inside a zip up sweater, tie the arms and put it against my batter head. Sounds really great

Try remo emperor SMT. I use it. Great sound.
Anyone know what cymbal Nick played at 13:45? I know it's some sort of Sabian HHX crash, but i can't figure out the exact size or the sub-series.
Anthology
Nick, obrigado pelo conteúdo de sempre! Uma dica, este corte de cabelo não cai bem a você! 😉
Off question.?? Any one know if dw makes customized collector snares. Just a snare. Not a whole kit.
You gotta make sure the logo on your bass drum head is centered so you look cool.
Of course 💪🏻
nicely done, thanks
Coated ps3 front and batter , no hole and dampening from outside. And tune up!
This guy is the Chris Kane version of drummers. You can see how he enjoys playing. 😃

I really don't like all these deep bass drums they are making these days. I prefer a 22x14 or maybe 24x16.
...20x16 or 22x16 are my favorites, very punchy, cheers.

I think Nicks drums are dialed in
There's so much compression on the kick mic, there's no definition or difference on anything. It all sounds the same.
