    Like your videos I’ve been a drummer for many years and I totally recamend the tune bot once you know the pitch you like just save it on the tune bot and it will tune it to your liking every time also played on many kits but mapex has the best sound to me

      Yeah, I like the tunebot. It is true that I don't use it very often. My only reason is that I don't want to rely on it, and lose my ear for tuning. And maybe that's not even a legitimate excuse, but I'm stubborn. 😂 But the tunebot is a great tool!
      As for Mapex, I wasn't really even considering them when I was looking for a new kit. Then everything changed when I finally got to hear one up close. And now I'm a Mapex endorser. Other drums sound great. But my ear really likes the sound of my Mapex kit more.

      @@KirksDrumRoom yes I totally agree I was actually looking at different kits but when I heard that mapex, I was actually impressed. As for the tune bot you have a point.

    I used to spend hours agonising when tuning my heads, I just wack them on now press down in the middle of the head and tighten the tension bolts till the wrinkles disappear and they sound perfect every time....nice video though !!

    i started always tuning with 2 keys a couple years back like Kenny Sharretts, but tuning is fun, i usually go loser on batter than reso, but been going 1-ply over 1-ply on a thicker shelled birch kit and 2-ply over 2-ply on a thin shelled maple kit, used to run 10" & 16" for a long time, recently went back to 12" & 16", where ive been going back and forth is with my snare drums, been trying more of a medium tight snare side head and a tight batter, feel like that still cuts but allows the wires to back off or go tighter without rattling like crazy

    • @KirksDrumRoom
      @KirksDrumRoom  ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to be a 12" to 14" tom lover with a 20" kick. Actually, I still use that setup a lot when I play out.
      As for the 2 ply on the bottom, that's interesting. I'm going to try that. I have in my head what I think it will sound like. But I could be totally wrong.

    • @guitaristbiker
      @guitaristbiker ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KirksDrumRoom so that kit is a 2004 maple thin shelled pdp kit that i had all of the edges leveled and reshaped, basically even at no tension that kit will resonate forrrreevvvvvvver, so ive been running emperor clears on both sides
      i used to run a 10" & 14" setup over an 18" kick sometimes, but never have tried the 12" & 14" setup before

    I'll tune the reso higher than the batter if I have different heads top and bottom (coated batter, clear reso, both single-ply). If I have the same single-ply clear head top and bottom, I'll go for the same pitch top and bottom.

    Great video. Quick question: when you test them, there is a very long decay for both. When they are on the kit, the decay sounds shorter. Is it some kind of gating on the mics or the decay is not being picked up by them? Thanks

    • @KirksDrumRoom
      @KirksDrumRoom  ปีที่แล้ว

      That has to do with the different mics used. I purposely didn't use any sound reinforcement for the video in hopes the truest sound would come through. That said, getting what I actually hear in the studio onto TH-cam is a challenge. Ha!

    Other benefit to using two keys is you reduce the risk of the drum head being pulled unevenly to one side of the shell, happened a lot to me in my first year of drumming
