This is why my Harm OCD thoughts are so terrifying and the anxiety is so intense. It says I’m going to “blank” my kids or wife( I’m the type of person who refuses to kill insects and I also bury animals I accidentally kill). I’m glad you covered the demands part because after the anxiety is over it then goes to what if I’m a killer and should be locked up. It’s exhausting, but I’ve done your course and have greatly improved, but it’s a long road to recovery, and I have to have patience.

I also have thoughts of "removing people" but I guess deep inside I know I would only ever do that IF I was being attacked. I wanted to comment because I am also very careful not to harm insects or animals, and burrie ones I find, I stop if I see them in the road and move them. I find humans repulsive, I have met very few people who display this quality.

SAME! I’m known for being someone that wouldn’t hurt a fly (literally - I always capture & release “pests”, and I get sooo upset if someone kills them - I also get extremely bothered when watching a truck full of Cows or Pigs drive by because I know where they’re going - even to the point of crying at least once, etc.) - I WANT to love God and others, and have noticed that I seem to have fears that I don’t…and I can see this manifest in thoughts & images of doing horrible things. I’ve had so many “themes” since I was a kid…you’d think by now I’d KNOW it’s just OCD….but there’s always the doubt that it is. 😓 It all feels so REAL, and CONFUSING. Ugh. I hope and pray for healing, my friend. You are not alone. 🙏🏻🤍

I remember being all beaten up by my head, a wandering mess coning here to finally find some answers to these nagging thoughts. Back then, it was so hard to take that plunge, to believe that i can get through this mountain of worries thaf consume every moment of my life. How every comment would trigger me and i used to look for that one liner of hope that said "Im on the other side and i made it"
The struggle is real everybody and i get it! There are people in the outside world who get it. Please be patient with yourself and forgive yourself..thats the key. Ocd is not a curse...its only a part of you and the readily you accept it the easier it becomes. You dont have to fight yourself, you're not broken.
An update about me, im doing much better. Yup, still have those instances where i can't stop ny thoughts and my compulsions but it's really an on and off thing and a wonderful journey of faith, hope and victory. Give yourself a chance ❤ u are a warrior. You got this! Struggling with your thoughts everyday and still living isnt a joke. You deserve a shoutout for holding on.❤

I recently came across your channel about 2 months ago. I was diagnosed with OCD and Depression when I was 8 and still working through it today at age 31.

I watch all your videos thank you 🙏🏻 but sometimes it’s really difficult because no matter how hard you try not to entertain the thoughts, images, what ifs, the doubts,… still the ocd takes over and won’t let you focus on anything. I.e. even when there’s pretty strong evidence that I am clean and there’s no way I could have become dirty/contaminated, the ocd still says what if you did become contaminated without noticing, better clean before spreading it everywhere…and there it goes the cycle 🔁

I feel you, recently I broke out of a really bad cycle, anxiety went down and I cut down compulsions a lot, to the point I wasn´t feeling the need to do them, however the thoughts still come and sometimes they feel "natural", which leaves me really confused. I dont know what anything means lately, im trying to not pay attention but its hard, sometimes the narrative is too well formulated, like it was designed to make me get involved, so strange.

I think mine is pretty rare. My fear is all about law consequences . Traffic laws, copyright laws, and many others you name it. But it’s not because of the guilty feeling of doing anything bad, it’s all about the consequences. What if I get sued or fined for this and that and I will be doomed. I know crystal clear that the fears and doubts are irrational and illogical, yet they are extremely realistic and terrifying and the moment.

Can OCD also present as statements that try convincing you of something? I've been having really bad existential intrusive thoughts and at first they were "what ifs" but as I started saying "maybe maybe not" and the what ifs had no power anymore, the thoughts changed to "nothing is real, you made the world up, you're the only real person" and that makes it feel even worse because it feels like my brain is trying to convince me something I fear IS real, not MIGHT be, but IS. I'm also not sure how to do exposures for that...

I like the videos you make. I find them very helpful! This one i found very triggering. OCD is extremely sneaky, especially what is referred to as Pure O. I think saying that you always have a choice about doing a demand thought is a little bit dangerous to say. This is because an obsession can be a thought about having another thought, or a thought about having a feeling or sensation etc. I feel this creates some space for sekf blame and guilt. I get what you are saying here, i just think it doesn't always apply.

  • @mark_lynch

Hi Nathan, love your videos and the time you put into them, but can I make an objective observation (my opinion obviously). One quarters of your video playlist of the most recent are more and more visual. This one is so visual, so distracting that I'm not listening to the message, and they are so much more faster in the information you are trying to convey. I've watched all your help videos and all the live videos - frankly, I don't know what I would of done without watching you and the information you have given to myself and other people - I will be forever grateful. I don't know how many other people feel the same, or differently to my view - but I feel awful in saying some of the above when I am so, so grateful to you. Working in advertising and design for 30 years now, my opinion would be that there are too many distracting graphics, the information is too fast (if you can slow it down and have longer videos) the information you are imparting is just not being absorbed or hitting the brain, but 'thank you', 'thank you, 'thank you' for everything you are doing. Kind regards

I'd like to see a video for those of us that have OCD wives or husbands specifically tailored for US to help. Yeah, we all know, don't provide reassurance or participate, but I want real solutions that work. I'm in a west Texas town where the therapists refuse to do ERP and just want to talk about feelings. So I've had to put on my shrink hat, get smart and work with my wife on this dreadful condition. It is a daily struggle, the victories are small, but I am really starting to run out of patience. SSRIs are not an option for my wife, so it's been Ashwaghanda to the rescue. It helps, except it's short lived. The only thing I do know is I'm glad we don't have kids or I would have hit the door running with them a year ago. No one deserves the abuse I have tolerated simply for the sake of someone feeling comfortable enough to stop washing their hands.

My OCD fear is ruminating that people are unsafe since I met someone I worked with who was rather narcissistic. I started standing up to her. She collected my various human-made mistakes over a few months, set some of them up actually, and fired me after almost two years as suddenly not competent enough to be in the position. This was to the shock of my coworkers and the management, (it was a church & she was one of the ministers),. They knew. They said I could always use them as a reference since they knew it was an interpersonal conflict, but it WAS up to her being a manager type over a subordinate.. They said I could always use them as a reference so....no problem, right? But it started a huge fear of people, that we cannot work things out, that people can be sneaky, and that our agendas are like, dod-eat-dog. My OCD thinking became that everyone's on their own agenda and I'm either serving it or in their way of meeting it, for all I know. So people made me nervous when they were around. THEN I developed Somatic OCD swallowing, drooling type. A total fear of swallowing which makes me look nervous, which brings "scary" peoples' attention to me who have all their own agendas. That I would look weak to the dangerous. And that's what I struggled with for half my life until I finally learned how my OCD is social anxiety-triggered OCD. But the real problem is how I'm seeing my fellow sojourners in life and what I'm working on now. Saying MAYBE is good for me as a recovering people-pleaser, but I love how this informational video applies the word MAYBE as well 🙏
