Let me know what type of guides you'll want to see, or what I may have missed in this one.
I'll read all comments since this is my first video I'll need to know how to improve.
This video will hopefully cover anything and everything for restoring a Yamaha Superjet as well as useful tips and tricks along the way.
Only half way through the video so far and enjoying it. Just a tip for your next video. Film all of the shots in landscape/horizontally. Would be more enjoyable to watch!
Already bought a go pro for my next videos!
Any video you shoot period hold your phone sideways. Honestly, it’s too annoying watching this with your phone straight up and down. Great content so I’ll subscribe to watch the next video!@@stewartsskirestorationhub
Wow, what a video! Just what ive been searching for. Binged the whole lot in one sitting. Tons of useful information and great seeing you save a lost one
Glad it was helpful!
Wow, amazing job. You spent a ton of time and it was totally worth it. That thing was trashed and now it’s better than new. I really like those years graphics. All the colors just go so well together. With the work you did, those graphics and a new pole it looks like a modern ski. You would never guess it’s 30 years old.
Would love to see a full walk around from further back of it finished and of it running.
Havent even watched. Looking at the thumbnail im hooked!!
I wish there was a complete restoration video for a JS550 (SX).
Awesome content 😊
Thats on my list! i finally got to ride a 550, and i actually love how light they are.
i dislike how slow they are, so i may throw a 701 into one as well.
Or maybe try and deck out a 550 as much as they can go
Great job!
What are the dimensions of the fitting for the second cooling line?
i used 3/8 cooling lines on this build.
Hi great job where did you get the decals from it looks great
Awesome build! Subscribed!
Great video man! You should make more videos, especially with the skis in action.
Just got a go pro! Soon
Super helpful. Just beginning my first build.
Great! Like to hear it. Ill be posting another helpful video soon on restoring an X2. It will have some more general restoration tips
If you get a chance. Measure the size of the bond line on both skis. Rumour has it that the square nose has a bigger bond line, surface area over the round nose. Making the square nose handle better in rough water. Its a tad wider and actually traps more water under it. Id love to know if this is true. Watched a video over on Jetskijims page. Check it out. Was neat to hear his thoughts.
Just coming back to your channel to see if you uploaded the X2 build. Hope soon!
Yeah... its all done, but i want some footage of it running to be included as well as its first startup. I have to wair till may when its good weather in idaho
Heres the build as a teaser for video

@@stewartsskirestorationhub Can't wait! Cheers
Where did you find the nose piece that had the open gas cap?
from a guy on the 'Everything Standup Jetski' facebook group. But im not sure if they are made anymore.
Yeah i want that...
Where did you get the new nose cover from?
I got it from a member on the "everything jetski" facebook group. Aftermarket but im not sure its in production to by anywhere anymore. Not sure though.
Best build video gonna be so helpful with my SN
If it made one person feel its useful, it was worth it. Thanks!
Where did you get the padding you used under your mats? Love that extra thickness 🙂
Blowsion. But im sure you can get it from any of the main dealers. i dont buy the thickest, i buy the 2nd thickest. The thick stuff is harder to work with because it shrinks easily after it gets wet and then doesnt look pretty.
The bottom hull section below the bond line is identical basically between the RN & SN SJ's.
1990-2008. Then i think they did actually change up some things on the hull and extended the length of the drivetrain and jet pump out alittle further for better handling and performance i believe it was.
Correct me if im wrong about the 2008+ differences.
I wasnt aware the exhaust was difference though and i have both, interesting.
How would hard is to replace that whole exhaust section out to the rear like you did on the RN.
Only benefit ive seen with the RN, which you could really replicate it enough on the SN, as well. Is that the front of the ski being round like that, lets the water roll of the ski easier or drive thru the water sligtly easier than the sharper edges on the front of the SN.
No reason not to buy a SN Superjet though, thats all i had forever and its what made me fall in love with the Superjet after having all the different Kawasakis from the 550sx (real), and on up.
Ive only got to ride a few sxr800's for only short peroids of times but i did like the SXR as well but i just felt more comfortable and more agile on the Superjet.
My first SJ was a 650 and it already had mods so it actually ripped especially compared to something like a modded 550 or 650sx..
Awesome Video BTW!!
Good comment! Yeah I wish I would have clarified the 2008+ differences.
The ehaust is easy to swap if youve already defoamed the ski. Would take only an extra hour to line it up, glass, and tap holes.
But if your ski is intact, I heard its also easy. Just take a same size pvc pipe and cut teeth out on an end and start rotating it through the hull till you hit the back, then make the back enterance slightly wider. Maybe use a portable light to help you see what youre cutting
Where did you get your hydroturf? And how is it holding up? Thanks!
Anywhere. Highspeed, n
Blowsion, or from hydroturf themselves
When using a pump stuffer I've heard a top loader is not needed anymore. Thoughts, or your on the water experience? Thanks.
yup, you dont want a top loader with a sutffer. you want the angle of the intake grate scoops to be roughly the same angle as the pump stuffer.
Great video so far but when it comes to hull differences I feel it’s important to state the 08+ hull is completely different from the SN & pre 08 RN
Very true. i should have included that.
can you give me your process for painting? did you Gell coat it or just do a clear coat?
Ive used gelcoat before. and i ruined two guns because i didnt clean it quickly. it really sets up fast during spraying.
So my last two skis i painted them. and although i loved the looks of the paint, the bottom of the ski quickly gets scuffed from beaching on sand.
So , its a toss up. matter of preference.
I think ill be going back to gelcoat on my next ski, and just quickly get my guns cleaned after each layer.
In terms of process for painting, just make sure you use quality paint from a paint store. and sand after your primer layer with some 400 grit.
Then wash the ski down with water, not soap. and let the water dry off for 24hours. Moisture really ruins layers if you color coat too quickly.
Past that, its all about doing several clear coats. Clear coats is how you get that glossy shine. Also, it take spractice going a specific speed that leaves a gloss coat and doesnt run.
my best advice is to just go for it, and learn as you go. Your first paint job wont look good.
my 2nd last advice... DONT USE RATTLE CANs. ITS GARBAGE and fades in 1 summer and doesnt hold up.
@@stewartsskirestorationhub thanks so much! ill post the final product on my TH-cam channel. hopefully it looks good.
How did you find that the graphics fit that ski? I just purchased a 95 SJ. Was thinking about going newer with the graphics..
I think i bought it here:
www.pwcgraphics.com/proddetail.asp?prod=sj_square_2018_OEM
But alot of places make SN graphics
Gotta know where you got that front bumper with the cap showing instead of the fuel door.
random find from someone on facebook. pretty unique. not sure where you can buy one.
Going to be painting a square nose hull here soon and going back and forth between using auto paint and gelcoat. Any recommendations? Have a friend who paints cars and is willing to try gel coating with me if that’s what I decide to do.
My last three skii i built were all auto paint. I beach my skiis on sand and gravel and this causes the lower paint to emediately come off.
So I would reccomend doing gel coat for the bottom half. And auto paint for the top half.
Whatever you do, dont use rattle can paint.
@@stewartsskirestorationhub is there some kind of primer to use to help the gelcoat adhere to the hull. I hear it doesn’t stick well to SMC. Appreciate the response and great video btw!
TotalBoat gelcoat has a epoxy primer you can use. But everybrand has their own primer reccomendation usually. I used generic rattle can primer on a SJ and then did gelcoat and it held up nicely
Depending on if you want to spend the cheapest/best for what you pay for, it would have to be appliance epoxy spray paint. The same stuff you put on a fridge or laundry washer. This paint is very good as it hardens and it’s not easy to scratch up. Now it is obviously cheaper than some other options and might not last forever. But it’s super cheap and easy to redo every 5-10 years. I use it on my square nose and it looks great.
How did you get the spring on the rad dudes bracket to work??
Used a 750sx spring. Cut the top right angle off so that its steaight an stuck it down the pole. Then for the bottom i left a little nub of a right angle on
@@stewartsskirestorationhub do you have a instagram or something we can talk over? I need some pics for reference please!
could I just use JB weld for the filler on the bottom? my ski just has scratches. no deep gashes.
I mean, that sounds expensive but it would propably be fine. I dont know man, sorry. Jbweld is meant to merge parts together
@@stewartsskirestorationhub ok. What would you recommend?
@@willigrant should be in the video. i reccomend TotalBoat TotalFair
@@ryrystewy1 awsome thanks
what size side molding did you use from blowsion? is it 1" or 1-1/4"?
i honestly cant remember. I know i bought the 1inch for my first blue superjet. But for this last one, i cant remember if i used the 1 inch or the 1 3/8. On that note, both will work and both look good. Blowsions website indicate both will work. i am 90% confident i used the 1 3/8, and even if i didnt, thats what I would buy if i were to do it again.
@@stewartsskirestorationhub i appreciate it a ton!!!
bought an used kawi 650sx noticed yesterday after finishing sanding the entire top that the pipe where the drive shaft goes is all cracked and broken so i have to replace it an most likely also redo all the foam.
yup. more than likely
Great Video !!!
What handle pole spring are you using?
Heavy duty 750sxi spring is what Rad Dudez reccomended with the pole. Although i wouldnt say it fit perfect, i had to cut the top bend off in order for it to slip into the tube. Then i put a rubber stopper on it so it didnt scratch the tube. And next summer i need to weld something to raise the bottom bend up a bit higher so that it actually has tention when im riding with the pole more upright. I would reccomend trying other springs or skip using the Raddudez bracket all together and go with Watcons and use what spring he recommends.
where should I by the paint from?
hah, i dunno, anywhere locally to you. just google auto paint
The RN's seem to be beat to crap sometimes damn.. usually the SN's are in good shape for the most part..
You lied, where the roundnose video! :(
its next =]
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

Big gasped of air
I am curious on what you got money wise into this amd the x2 each?
good question. let me tally it up and get back to you. this may take me a while. lol. This was meant to be a hobby, not to profit. obviously.
X2 was 800$. i sold all the components and i think i may have came out close to even there.
this 61x i found for 700$. i bought the bottom casing for it for 80$ to make it a 62t.
I think i bought a ton of stuff from HSI, my bill was like 1300$. new pistons, head, gaskets, bling kit, gas cap, 44 carbs pre configured, air filters, spark plugs,
I think i spent 200$ at watcon for bumper and various parts.
80$ for front hood fill gas cap area.
Turf 80$. paint 200$. ride plate 200$. intake grate i got for 80$. fuel tank 200$.
conversion parts propably totaled out to be around 200$ for all the adapters.
pump assembly i got cheap for 100$.
impellar 220$. seadoo hx waterbox 80$
additional elbows 30$ couplers 20$.
BPIPE 1200$ bilge coat 40$. maybe 50$ worth of epoxy, glass, filler.
water lines 40$. fuel lines 20$.
350$ for graphics
tubbies - 300$?
pump rebuild - 50$
100$ for carbon tech reads.
handlebar - 80 - grips 30$. Umi steering - 500$
bilge -50$
I cant think of anything else at the moment, i think thats is. soo...
So close to 7000?
And its probably worth 9000$ (in me eyes)
Superjet wasnt as expensive because i didnt have to buy everything. and i also bought an engine that was already good compression so i didnt have to fork down a huge bill to rebuild engine.
NOW IM SAD. LOL
@stewartsskirestorationhub2305 lol. But here is the thing you spent 9k on a bad ass ski that is a ton of fun and looks new! U can't get that excitement out a new huge ski they make nowadays that would cost you twice that much unless you go with a aftermarket hull and there 8k plus for those so really if you think about it 9k is a cheaper deal for the x2 and its a head turner not a huge 3 seater or boring spark/jet blaster. Shit there still 10k at that. You did good. Does that make you feel better? Lol I'm restoring my blaster right now!!
@@jeffbryner5355 nice. let me know if you put some pictures or make a forum post.
Sick ski
Great Video !!!!
Thanks!
@@stewartsskirestorationhub i would love to see a video with complete engine video with disassemble the engine and putting everything together superjet
And another one how to take care of the engine and the jet so that it last long time
Not found any video on TH-cam like that 👍
