    Great video and info on functional NOT JUST BLING mods.. Did you reinforce the tray walls after thinning them and taking out all the foam.. How they holding up... What did you do to build up the front padding of the ski to wedge your front foot..I'm looking at doing something like that but hedgehog worked out how I want to build it up

    • @RSKI
      @RSKI  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We made fiberglass buckets, riveting and glassing them into place. We used two part foam to fill all voids, so they’re very strong. They might not be as strong as original, but when we cut out the tray area, we reinforced the bottom deck to the top deck. So that helped a lot using big sheets of fiberglass. Then re-foam.

    Nice video and tip. Good for new people on sport. Question what year is your Superjet and what motor you use?

    • @RSKI
      @RSKI  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think it’s a 2001 Superjet if I remember right. It has the original 701cc engine. Never rebuilt.

    Very nice video and Ski! About the scupper. You explain is right but why Top ski build for Freerider like Krash and other use scupper valves?

    • @RSKI
      @RSKI  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Scupper is nice for certain applications, but for riding surf in Oregon I would never use a scupper. I had several before and it causes a lot of problems.

    I love the 'L" fiberglass hood reinforcement, did you make a wood mold first and then lay up the fiberglass? can you do a small explanation video on that? I would love to make one for myself.

    • @RSKI
      @RSKI  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually a friend of ours made the hood lip reinforcement pieces a few years ago and since then he’s gotten completely out of the industry. He made the mold off of a Superjet hull but were not sure exactly how he did it. It’s a pretty simple final part though and I think you can do it! Just keep it as close to the hood opening as possible trying not to make the hood opening much smaller than it is now, if the hood lip takes up too much space it will be difficult to get the fuel tank and engine installed. Each one of our hood lips are a little different, but personally I prefer the shorter ones that stick up about one inch above the hull. The taller ones tend to be a little more flimsy. And when you rivet them into place 3/16 stainless rivets with backing washers are the strongest and most resistant to corrosion if you’re in salt water.

      @@RSKI Thank you for the response! great tips, I think ill give it a go and see what I can do. I have an A/M hood too so its going to have to be a custom thing anyway. Its def a great idea though.

    • @RSKI
      @RSKI  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@xsean35x Give us an update on how it turns out! It definitely makes the sides of the hull a little stiffer and helps hold the hood in place so well!

    Did you have to grind some of the oem flame arrestor off to fit the Ada head?

    • @RSKI
      @RSKI  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya, actually quit a bit. Then we use epoxy to fill the hole because you have to grind all the way through the plastic. Kind of sucks, but I used packing tape to hold the shape and fill with epoxy. Stu just fiberglassed his and it was much easier. Both worked.

  • @sweetschoolbus
    @sweetschoolbus 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm nearly finished building my SJ for surf riding, but was curious if you do anything to the wiring to keep corrosion out of the connectors. Mainly I'm talking about the start button wiring.
    Maybe it's not an issue, but my 650sx constantly had corroded bullet connectors, so I'm extra paranoid.

    • @RSKI
      @RSKI  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All of the oem Yamaha electrical connectors are excellent and should never have water intrusion. We always add some dielectric grease too. The start stop switch from Yamaha is also excellent.

    how do you set your handlebar location?

    • @RSKI
      @RSKI  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The location of the handlebar is determined by the length of the handle pole, the configuration of your steering system, and the mounting location of your handle pole bracket. It’s common to get an Over the pívot steering to shorten it, or cut the handle pole shorter to move the handlebar location forward.
