Thanks for the vid. I also installed the S8 in my jeep and so far I love it. I've been playing with the EQ and installed a car launcher (Agama) which is awesome. My only complaint was the VIDEO IN wire that could not fit in the unit for the life of me. But I don't use a DASHCAM or send video out to other screens so its not that bad.
Thanks for watching. I really need to try the Agama launcher. I’ve heard it’s great. If you are referring to the front video in, I tried several times to get it installed. Finally I used way too much force and it clicked in place. It was a bit ridiculous but it worked.
Thanks! If you decide to install one of these head units, I’ve listed all the adapters I used for the install in the description. The steering wheel adapter is the most challenging part. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video! This has been really helpful as a guide for the setup of my Atoto S8 Stereo, I wanted to know more in specific which cables you had to tap in specific for the steering wheel controls, the manual for the ASWC-1 is really confusing and so far I have not been able to successfully wire it.
Thanks for watching! It’s been so long ago since I installed this I’m honestly not sure what wires I used. I do remember there was tons of trial and error with the steering wheel controls. I used online forums and wiring diagrams to get it going. Good luck on the install.
12:14 On some vehicles, you can add PID's to read other manufacturer specific sensors such as temperature or current transmission gear (1st, 2nd, ...). In sure Toyota has PID's that are not pre-loaded into the Torque app. You can add them or create your own.
I tried to install this head unit without the swc adapter with no luck. I ended up ordering the adapter and got it working. Not sure what the difference was, but it didn’t work for my install.
Thanks for detail explanation and effort you put into this. Question, hopefully you can remember since you no longer have the truck, but I have a 2018 Nissan Titan SV with Nav. I'm installing the Atoto Ultra Plus. I'm ordering the parts you list, but really not much out there on the web on how all these parts connect with each other to the stereo. I'm slowly figuring it out. It's evident that all of this has to connect to the 20pin cable that comes with the Atoto stereo. Did you have to splice any of the factory harness to make this happens, or did all the above cable parts you list just connect together with no splicing of factory cables. Note: I understand that I have to solder the lose ends to the appropriate points, just concerned about splicing factory wires. THanks!!
Thanks for watching and I’m glad the video helped. You’re right, it’s been a long time since this install but I don’t remember having to splice into any factory wires. It was a complicated install and it was frustrating at times but stick with it and it’ll be worth it. Good luck!
Looks like they updated the link to a newer unit. I know the one I have is a Gen 1 S8. They discontinued that version and this is the Gen 2. It doesn't look the same, that's for sure. It is the 10.1" screen though.
Thanks for the video great review say when you're driving at night can you block out the screen to not have any glare and still continue to listen to music thanks in advance
So I went through the options this morning and I don’t see a way to turn the screen off without turning the entire unit off. You can dim the screen but it’s still visible. I’m not going to say it can’t be done because there are so many options and settings that I’m still learning, but I couldn’t find a way to do it. Thanks for watching!
Does your titan have the 360 camera and did you get it to work with the Atoto? I have the Joying 10.1 inch and a new Titan 2021. Had the head unit in my old Rogue. Wanting to install this in the titan with the rest of the equipment, but dont want to lose the all around view.
My Titan did not come with the 360 camera, so I'm not sure if it would work or not. Hopefully you can find a way to make it work. Thanks for the comment.
My titan has 360 and I am in the middle of trying to figure this out. It does support the 360 camera but for some reason when I shift to reverse, the 360 camera starts up but the my video feed only lasts like 5 seconds and then it goes black. Still trying to figure it out
I had a small scrap piece of abs plastic in my shop. I used screws through the four mounting holes in the dash to hold it in place. Then just used the double sided tape on the gps antenna to hold it to the plastic.
What did you use to have 3 cameras set up on your head unit? In looking at purchasing the radio but I also have two cameras in the bed of truck to help hook up my 5th wheel and also backup camera. Did you figure out how to turn off the backup camera to use the other cameras?
On the head unit it has three different connections for camera connections. (Aux-in, Front Camera and Reverse) I ran a camera from the aux-in to the side of the bed. Then I ran another camera from the front camera output to the front of the truck bed. The reverse camera was connected to the factory rear view camera. I purchased a switch unit that would allow 4 cameras to connect to one video output and you would use a remote mounted switch to choose what camera you wanted to use. I tried to connect it several times with no luck. I could get the reverse camera to show up, but the others would just show static. I ended up going back to the way I had it connected in the video and when backing up to the trailer I would have to shift from reverse to neutral to see the bed cameras. It was a pain, but it got the job done without jumping in and out of the truck. I still think the switch would have been awesome, but it was super cheap, and I just couldn't get it to work.
I’m trying to get access to the cigarette lighter wiring to add two usb chargers to the rear. None of the videos show anybody just removing the two grey side dash trim pieces. Are they too hard to remove or you just didn’t find it necessary?
I tried to pop those two pieces off and they didn't feel like they were going to come off without breaking. I left them on and worked around them. One thing I will recommend if you don't want to hack in to the cigarette lighter is the Nissan Accessory Service Connector. I tried to list the link here, but it won't let me post it. Check out the description in the video and it's the last item listed. This will plug in behind the kick panel in the foot and give you many options for accessory power without cutting or tapping in to a factory wiring harness.
Is the view from the factory reverse cam improved any with this head unit? My ‘19 XD’s camera is hard to use when I’m trying to line up the hitch for my travel trailer.
I just bought a Sony car play head unit. It's not even installed yet and I'm regretting my decision purely because compared to this, AA and car play is crippled for safety. Even if you are not stupid and will never watch and drive, TH-cam and video apps will not play even when parked. It's just too limited.
Yes. I looked into the name brand head units and they have tons of limitations. This head unit isn’t perfect but the unlimited possibilities make it worth it. Being able to control all navigation functions while moving makes it well worth it to me.
@@BuildYourOwnAdventure what shortcomings does the atoto have? I ordered one then found out it's got a crappy resistive touchscreen that can't do multi touch. It's Sony! That shouldn't be a thing. Maps is going to be a nightmare! Lol
I’ve had a few issues with CarPlay that were solved by rebooting. I’ve had to do that a few times but not too often. I’ve also had issues with it not connecting to WiFi automatically. That was solved by resetting the hot spot from my phone and going in to the settings on the head unit and reconnecting to the hot spot. That’s really it. Nothing major, just annoying.
@@BuildYourOwnAdventure I think I'll keep with this head unit for a while then get an atoto. I can't really back out now. The appointment for this sony installation has been made and I have paid for it. My regrettable purchase is the Sony 3005DB. No videos (when parked), no multi touch and resistive screen make it a bit dull. It means I can't pinch to zoom and the screen won't work as well when selecting things.
@@ceasarsalad119 I can understand moving ahead with the Sony install. You may end up loving it and not needing to upgrade. If you do upgrade later, you will have a baseline to compare the ATOTO to. Good luck with the new head unit.

There's an option i saw in the settings that allowed to turn the screen off after a certain time, e.g. 5 minutes, 10 minutes, etc.
When using the GPS on stereo do you still get the notifications on the dash like it would with oem nav
