It's odd how every review starts with an unboxing. It's rare to see a review from someone who has actually lived with the unit for awhile. It's less a review than first impressions.
How is it doing on phone calls via bluetooth? I had a S8 Pro and it was perfect on carplay's phone call, bluetooth music was perfect, but man, phone calls via bluetooth, i couldn't hear anything even with the sound to the max! Talked to atoto's support many times, never been able to resolve the problem, i ended up sending it back past week! Now i am thinking on trying another one, but not yet decided if i will go with Atoto...By the way i am a automotive tech, it was wired perfectly, even while being sure it was, i double checked it, and that wasn't the problem...
Mine is perfect over bluetooth, quality to folks on the other end isn't as good as a factory system but everything functions fine in my case. Not sure what the issue might have been with yours, perhaps a defective unit or maybe the volume output/attenuation from your phone isn't optimal for this unit. Thanks for watching!
It's still fantastic. I don't drive the Xterra often at all, only a couple times per year at this point really, but has been great. Thanks for watching!
Great video. Very informative. It's been almost a year since you've posted, did your opinion of the unit change at all? I'm looking into getting the Gen2 Standard for my 2011 Tundra. Thanks!!
No change in opinion, I still use CarPlay all the time, love it, and continues to work great! The only complaint I have after using it long term is the mic quality - the one built into the stereo itself isn't great as I've been told by folks on the other end of my calls, but if you install an external one you should be good to go there too. Thanks for watching!
Can someone please explain to me why I need to use android auto when the unit itself operates on android. Can’t you just use all the same apps on the unit itself?
You can, it's generally preferred to have everything centralized to your phone though since it has a constant data connection and so you don't need to update apps and related items on two devices (phone and stereo). All personal preference. Thanks for watching!
First time at your site. Where did you buy the S8 Ultra; it's not suppose to be available in the USA? It's not for sale on Amazon or EBay; only the S8 Pro for $299. How much did you pay for the S8 Ultra? I already ran my RCA cable for my back up camera to the stereo. I pulled out my old stereo from a '09 Toyota Corolla. I'm ready to buy a head unit and was going to buy the S8 Pro. I have a VanTrue N2 Pro dash cam. Instead of using the VanTrue supplied power supply adapter (cigarette lighter plug-in) and the mini USB cable to power the dash cam, I'd like to replace it with a 10' cable using a mini USB and RCA plug-in at opposite ends of the same cable. I'm hoping such a cable is available to buy. If the cable is available, do I plug the RCA into the ATOTO S8 front camera input or the video input?
Thanks for your comment! I am 99% certain I got the Ultra from Amazon, but I also purchased another ATOTO stereo previously as well and I think one of them came from a different source. It's been too long to remember for sure, but I do know there was an Amazon listing for the Ultra at one point at the very least. I think it was in the $350-450 range but again, it's been a while so not sure on exact figure. As far as the video feed questions go, I'd ask those of ATOTO directly, but if I were mapping out this system with those components, I'd connect the backup camera to the backup cam input (fairly straightforward, made for this purpose) and then for the dash cam, I'd feed power to it from one of the USB outs on the back of the headunit and run it as a separate subsystem otherwise (i.e. video contained on the camera still, not streaming to headunit). I have not ever run cameras on either of the ATOTO headunits I own/owned, so I can't comment on exact setup specifics. Hopefully that helps clarify some and point you in the right direction - thanks for watching!
@@lawrenceheath5198 If your climate control is integrated into the factory headunit it may not be possible to upgrade it at all. That said, if lower trim level 100 series came with a standard stereo and climate control buttons (as opposed to them being on the screen) then you might be able to get that climate control unit and a dash kit to integrate a double-DIN stereo in. The aftermarket headunits won't be able to control climate control functions. I'd consult a very experienced stereo shop if you need some application-specific advice. Thanks for watching!
Mine seems to be controlled by master volume so I'd think so...I know you can change it independently as well but it should scale overall with master. Thanks for watching!
What year is your Xterra? About to install this in my 2012 pro 4 x. I'm pulling the rockford fosgate head unit, so I think our set up will be slightly different. Thanks.
Did you install this? I have a 2016 Frontier Pro-4x with RF system and wondering how yours went and how it sounds? Did you connect steering wheel buttons? If yes, then how? Thank You!
I ask a question that I have not found an answer to in several videos that I have seen on TH-cam. Can I connect my android mobile to this screen without using the cable (Car Link)? I mean, can I connect my mobile using EasyConnection or something? I know this screen does NOT have Android Auto Wireless.
You can connect via Bluetooth for audio streaming if that's what you're asking about. Any more detail other than that and CarPlay would probably be best asked of ATOTO directly, as I've not used the connection features beyond that. Thanks for watching!
Can I use my existing xm receive that is attached to my Kenwood head unit. I don't want to use my wifi on my phone. I am trying to switch to an Atoto S8 Ultra S Pro.
Those are questions for ATOTO - I can't comment on the XM receiver from experience but I'm guessing that would not work, and as far as the WiFi goes, that's only needed for Android Auto/CarPlay. Thanks for watching!
While on a wired connection, does it have enough current to charge your phone? I have an Eonon that does not charge my phone while on Android Auto. I'm thinking about getting this one now but an not sure if they're "all the same".
I haven't used the USB extensively, but it worked the couple times I used it for wired CarPlay with my iPhone (and did charge the phone). Thanks for watching!
I had their previous model headunit and it was good...not great, but solid. This one also plugged directly into the wiring harness I'd already made for the previous one...not something I knew going in but certainly something worth mentioning. Thanks for watching!
So the head unit sound quality is it's a good compare to the OM it's better it's less a did you gain quality did you lose quality how is the sound that's better on the O Em stock speakers without an amplifier just plug and play on the volume speakers Please I need your advice because I'm trying to upgrade this unit on my Camry 2000 with the new kicker speakers
It's better than most factory stereos, and running on the internal amp with no additional speaker amps installed is how I run it in my Xterra. Thanks for watching!
Sorry to hear that, mine is luckily still working fine in the Xterra. The support from ATOTO directly has been pretty good for me as well, at least when asking install-related questions. Thanks for your comment and for watching!

Thanks for the review. Which A6 did you previously have? Was it Standard, Pro or Premium? I'm tossing up between an A6 Pro and an S8 Standard
Hello, thanks for your video. I have a 2017 Nissan Frontier. Which double din dash kit brand/model did you use?
Thanks in advanced.
I believe this was the Scosche kit. If you look up my other ATOTO install video I go thru the entire process there. Thanks for watching!
You said that your vehicle doesn't support steering wheel controls. Why? Does Atoto not support Steering wheel controls?
The headunit does, my Xterra that I installed this in does not have them. Thanks for watching!
How is the audio quality with music streaming and radio?
Much better than with the old ATOTO unit I had and better than OEM for sure. Thanks for watching!
Can you buy a harness for a 2013 tundra that will make it plug and play. I do have steering wheel controls too
