Truck is looking great Julio, glad you kept it. I run a 1995 Chevy 2500 4x4 and 1999 Chevy 3500 4x2 in my lawn care biz. I also had a 2001 2500 HD 4x4 and 1994 Chevy 2500 in years before. Great trucks, parts are cheap and easy to work on. That radio looks great, I might have to get one. Keep up the great work Man.
Thanks and I agree they are great trucks. I’m so glad I decided to keep it as well. I’ve been having lots of fun upgrading parts, doing repairs and getting it ready for the lawn care season. This new Atoto adds some great features to the mobile office. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for this video. I was under the impression that being an iphone user that an android head unit was not something i would be interested in. My impression was wrong. I have an older dodge ram truck something like this would be a huge upgrade.
Yes it’s a massive upgrade for older vehicles. You can also get this in different screen sizes. They even have one that has a large 10” floating screen that sticks out past the dash. The wireless apple CarPlay is great and if you don’t want to use that feature It also connects via Bluetooth to my iPhone and I can make calls, listen to my music of podcasts etc on the android side of things. Thanks for watching.
I have 2 of them, one for each vehicle, and the QLED screen is very impressive! It's way cheaper than A Sony, Alpine, and Kenwood radio, and it's very handy, so highly recommend!
Hey buddy the overall quality is good. The screen is very good quality and responsive. Overall it definitely has some small quirks that I would attribute to being android based. The wireless apple car play works great. The sound quality is good. It’s not the best but is hard to attribute it to the deck as I’m having to use a interface system between the deck and the complicated factory bose audio system with amp and the Bose speakers that use a different impedance than normal car audio speakers. Plus it’s all tied into the onstar system as well. So overall in my application it sound nice and clear until you get into really high volumes then a bit of distortion is heard. All of the features and options make it a great value at the price point and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one or recommend one to someone given the price and features. Thanks for watching.

Thanks so much for such a comprehensive video! The USB port that's lower on your dash; is that a re-purposed cigarette lighter? What's the adapter you used? It doesn't seem like it's part of ATOTO's kit. Thanks!
The adapter was part of an older system that interfaced with the old factory radio to give it Bluetooth functionality for calls and music as well as adding that USB port. It’s essentially just a long usb cable with the normal male end on the side behind the dash and the female end that has that round shape with clips on the back that’s made to be able to pop into a hole that you drill. So since I already had it and it was installed I left it in and plugged it into the Atoto rear usb port. I’m sure you could probably find something similar online somewhere like Amazon or eBay. In fact I just typed “car mount usb extension cable” into Amazon and a few similar ones popped up. Thanks for watching.

Thank you for your review, excellent. But I have a few questions regarding about radio interface with GM Bose radio , amp and steering wheel controls. Am I be able to use those Bose oem amp in center console unit or I need to cut some wiring.?
The audio interface I used called the PAC audio RP5-GM11 allows all the factory Bose stuff to work with the aftermarket radio including the Bose speakers, amp, and subwoofer and steering wheel controls. The only issue I’ve found is the on star system is all tied into the Bose stuff and as such the only steering wheel button that cannot be re mapped is the onstar talk button. I also found that if I turn off the truck for a short period of time like under 10 minutes like you would when refueling the speakers seem to not work when you turn the truck on again. If the truck is off for 15 or 20 minutes or more then the speakers work like normal. I found that in that situation if I tap the onstar speak button on the steering wheel twice the audio comes back on the speakers. So seems like a bug from having the onstar system so integrated into the Bose equipment and factory radio. But after discovering the trick it’s no big deal to just tap the button twice when it happens. Thanks for watching.
Really looking to put this in my 02 Chevy. I like the S8 b/c the reviews say it’s very responsive. I wonder if the S8 Premium worth it for the QLED display?
The screen on this is very nice and yes very responsive. With that said I just installed another Atoto in a different vehicle but this time I did the new A6PF model. It features both wireless apple car play and wireless android auto. Also a equally nice screen and very responsive. I recently did a video on it as well. Thanks for watching. Here’s a link the the A6PF video I did. th-cam.com/video/Y01fBkPsGyk/w-d-xo.html
Hi, I saw that you were able to link your iPhone wirelessly and use Carplay. Can you also do the same with an Android phone and have wireless android auto right out of the box?
Unfortunately not on this S8 model. It only offers wireless for apple car play. Android auto requires a cable. But I just installed another Atoto head unit in another vehicle that does offer both wired and wireless for both apple car play and android auto. It’s the new Atoto A6PF model. Same operating system and software features as this one. Here’s a link to the video I did on that model. Atoto A6PF Android Head Unit Review th-cam.com/video/Y01fBkPsGyk/w-d-xo.html
@Lawn Care Business Success Awesome, thanks for the quick reply. I was looking at one of these S8 ones and have seen a ton of different thing stating that it doesn't offer either AA or carplay, they're both only wired, or they can both go wireless. Thanks for sending a link to one that is wirelessly compatible with both
From what I remember it depends on the vehicle. The Atoto has the ability to program steering wheel controls and if your vehicle is a simple setup then it may work out of the box. On my truck that was featured in the video it has a complicated factory system with the original radio intergrated with a Bose amplifier and speakers, as well as the onstar system. So it needed an additional interface system to make it all work together. Thanks for watching.
It’s a vehicle specific trim piece made by a company called metra. This one is for lots of GM vehicles of that era. I think it’s model number Metra 95-2001 dash kit. Get it online at crutchfield.com or Amazon. Thanks for watching.
Awesome looking unit! The wireless CarPlay is most interesting feature to me. Question: What was the process of turning on CarPlay? Did you have to hit the Car Connect button every time you want to initiate CarPlay?
Yes you just tap the car link app to start car play. The phone automatically connects to Bluetooth and you can play music and use the phone but if you want to use car play just tap the app. I keep the app on the Home Screen so it’s easy. Sure beats having to plug a cable in every time. Don’t even need to take the phone out of your pocket or purse. Thanks for watching.
great video of what you covered but still so many questions, lol being may 3 the likes of a reply are slim, :-) i have a 2007 ford escape that im looking for an atoto to drop in, but it seems that so many atoto options with the 7" selections i tend to give up looking. then i come back to it and then agh stop looking again. yes wireless android connection is a must, the new ones have it and ive read that to get it running on these is a nightmare, with regards to the cameras and the dvr, does that run all the time just like a dashcam, or does that have to be started each time. what was the fit like, should i go to the bigger 8" will that fit, not sure. or go full tesla style and go the 10inch.. the problem is atoto has so many styles and flavors its hard to understand what is what.
The DVR works automatically in the background every time the car starts and the radio powers up. The fit was good for a standard double din spot. Just needed a install bracket / trim ring for the specific vehicle. The one I got for my truck was like $10 from a brand called Metra and is made specifically for GM vehicles of that era to fit an aftermarket double din radio. Although the big floating screens and Tesla style ones would be cool they could also be distracting and attract too much attention from thieves. I prefer the more subtle and stock kinda look. Thanks for watching.
So funny you asked today. I liked this unit so much this past year I was literally installing another one today in a different car I have. This time I’m putting in the Atoto A6 PF model in my daily driver. In terms of the steering wheel controls it depends on the vehicle and the aftermarket head unit. The Atoto brand ones being androids have a function to learn the steering wheel controls where some others like jvc or alpine may not for example and would require a interface. That’s part one of the equation. Part two is it then also it’s depends on your vehicle. For the truck in the video because it had on star, the Bose stereo with factory amp and subwoofer, steering wheel controls etc, all mixed together. I needed to buy a wiring kit that had a vehicle specific interface box to make it all work. It was pretty expensive just for that kit but worth it. You basically wire the Atoto harnesses to the interface kit then it just plugs into the factory harness with that little interface computer in the middle and everything works. On the A6 model I’m installing today in my Mazda 5. The car is much simpler with no amp or on star and so no interface is needed for steering wheel controls. So I just bought a cheap Mazda specific radio harness that has all the same color coded wires as the Atoto harness on one end and the matching Mazda radio plug on the other end. Ijust soldered the wires to the matching colors and then just plug it into the factory radio harness. Then you use the atoto steering wheel control app on the headunit to program each of the buttons on the steering wheel for what you want. Super easy. Thanks for watching.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess Thanks! I bought the S8 Ultra Gen 2 7" just an hour ago, ships here Monday. I asked you for 2 reasons, 1. I liked the video and 2. I have a 2003 Avalanche Z71 w/Bose and OnStar, so I was hoping you had the Bose as well. I surfed around the web to see if there was a Sierra or Silverado install and came on your page. I guessed as you also have the digital climate control. I saw a PAC adapter on Crutchfield when i was looking at the Sony XAV AX5600 so it could work with the Av. What did you end up using? I am not so much worried about price as I am worried about function. thanks!
I used the PAC RP5-GM11 kit. It worked great except for one lingering issue I have with the onstar even though I don’t use onstar it’s tied into the system. The issue is if I turn off the truck and turn it back on within a short time like getting gas for example I get no sound from the speakers. I discovered if I hit the onstar button on the steering wheel twice the sound comes back on though. If the truck sits longer like for 20 minutes or so and I turn it back on then everything works fine. I tried disconnecting the onstar but still caused issues. So since I discovered the trick with the onstar button it’s not a big issue since it only happens when like I said you turn the truck off for just a few minutes. Let me know if you experience the same issue with yours and if the trick with the onstar button works to get the speaker sound again.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess ok, so it is the same kit. I will let you know. Did you upgrade to the new 3/4G OnStar or did you leave the older one in the vehicle when the Gen 2 ones expired in. 2010? I left mine alone and let the system expire. I'll let you know if I have issues, with the system that is. Yes, I set up the "I have issues " joke....sigh.
I used a audio interface from PAC Audio. It allows you to use an aftermarket stereo with the factory Bose speakers and amp. Also allows you to keep the steering wheel controls as well. Thanks for watching.
I don’t think it will work without it. Even the steering wheel controls. Everything on the steering wheel goes through the onstar system and there’s not a way to bypass it. I tried. Plugging in the interface makes it all just work.
great review thanks bro I think I'm going to get this along with the metric kit to fit in my 98 Chevy Astro. Do you know if we can use other brand dash cams and backup cameras to work just as well with the system? they sell a 170° backup cam on Amazon for $25 I'm wondering if I can set it up and calibrated it, to do the virtual parking without spending the $90 for their kit and cam.
I’m not sure. I would look up the wiring diagram for the Atoto cam and see if it’s the same for the other your thinking of. The 170 degree true bird eye view cam is super cool from videos I’ve seen. I know some of the atoto accessories like the dash cam and TPMS system seem to be generic. They look the same and are sold under different name brands that I’ve seen. Thanks for watching.
You can. The S8 has an rca input for 2 cameras, a front and rear. I have mine tied into the oem backup cam in my 2011 ram, the hardest thing was identifying the camera wire in the dash and tapping in to it, that was a PITA!! Atoto also sells a 1080p dash cam that is usb, and I think you have to use that one as I have an older atoto usb dash cam and it doesn't even work. I believe the pre-installed app for the atoto HD USB cam is called HD-Dvr.
How is the audio quality, and radio tuning ability compared to stock? I’ve read in some reviews it struggles to pick up stations the factory stereo picked up with ease.
I have no issues with it picking out radio stations. The audio quality is good. Overall I think it represents a very good value for the money considering all the options it gives you and is capable of. Thanks for watching.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess my radio reception is decent as long as your not moving. radio reception drifts in and out when moving to the point were listening to radio is useless so i set up duel antenna it is better but not much even after setting up for USA
Thanks for the video. Sounds like you covered just about everything I was curious about before buying. Does it come with a remote control and does it have a usb port? I have (2) 2003 Hummer H2's. Both have Bose speakers and Bose amps installed. Will this work in each vehicle?
@@d.6354 yes that’s what I have in mine but you need to also get an audio interface that connects in between. It basically allows you to take your factory harness and plug into the interface then has the same color coded wires to connect to the Atoto. It allows you to flick a switch to use the Bose amps and speakers and does the conversion, it also retains the steering wheel controls, and onstar. Makes installing super simple. Just connect the color coded wires from the radio to the same colors on the interface harness then plug your factory radio harness into the interface. They are pricey though. The one I used in my truck was like $150 USD. It’s the PAC Audio RP5-GM11. Probably same one needed for yours but I’d double check to make sure.
I used the Metra 95-2001 from crutchfield. Good choice with the A6. I put the A6PF in my car a year after installing this one in the truck. Thanks for watching.
I used a wiring interface kit. They are vehicle specific so you get the one that’s matched to your vehicle. Essentially it’s a small little computer box that has on one side all the wiring you use to connect to the after market deck wiring. It’s all color coded so super easy to match up yellow with yellow, and red to red, purple to purple etc. The other side has all the same plugs that your factory radio had so you just unplug the factory radio and plug this in. So if your vehicle has steering wheel controls the interface will have the wire or plug to connect to the deck. On my vehicle the interface allows me to keep steering wheel controls, my factory Bose speakers, subwoofer, and Bose amps, as well as Onstar and the rear seat entertainment system (a separate radio with headphone jacks on the back of my console) The interface kits are made by many different brands. I bought mine from the Crutchfield website. They sell all car audio systems and installation parts from all brands. You can go to their website and input your vehicle and year and it will show under the installation and wiring harnesses section your options. Thanks for watching.
My installation required an audio interface kit to work with my factory Bose speakers and amp and subwoofer. The interface literally plugs into the same plug that was plugged into the back of the factory radio and then gives you all the same color coded wires to connect the ATOTO harness to including a wire for the dimmer func tion.
No unfortunately not. The dash cam records directly to a microSD card on the camera not on the Atoto S8. Too bad really, it would be nice to have the rear camera record as well. Thanks for watching.
Will this unit fit on 2012 dodge challenger ? And android is fast boot ? Because my head unit android 10 slow to boot when i start engine then radio slow take a long time to start.
It will fit anywhere a standard double din head unit will fit. Yes it has fast boot. When you first install it the first time you start or if the battery is disconnected it will be slow to load then every time after the first start is starts in just a few seconds. Thanks for watching.
I got issue with this unit. I did install the radio at car shop, carge me over $400. Everything work well play music from my iphone via bloetooth sound speakers ok but incoming call and out call no sound speakers i cant hear anything. Anyone know how to fix it pls. Thank you.
For this particular truck with the factory Bose stereo, speakers subwoofer and amp as well as onstar and the rear radio in the back seat on top of steering wheel controls it’s all tied together so I had to purchase an expensive PAC audio interface to make it all work with the new head unit. The pac model number for this truck was the RP5-GM11. So it all depends on the vehicle. Im just actually installed another Atoto head unit last week in my other car but this time I got the Atoto A6PF model. I installed it in my 2008 Mazda 5. In that vehicle no fancy audio interface was needed. I just bought a cheap Mazda radio wiring harness and soldered the Atoto harness to that directly. Then you just plug it in without any need to cut any wires in the vehicle. I was able to wire up the steering wheel controls. So it depends on the vehicle. The Atotos can learn the steering wheel functions so it just depends on the vehicle’s equipment if it needs an interface or not. Thanks for watching.

@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess Did you have to purchase a special adapter to connect your dash camera or does the Atoto S8 (Gen II) Standard have a dedicated USB port for it. I saw someone on TH-cam state that they had to buy a USB to RCA adapter cable to hook up the dash camera. Thanks for posting, BTW!
The Atoto S8 comes with a cable that has two USB ports on it with one labeled for the usb dash cam. The other is for connecting other devices such as a phone for android auto or apple car play. Thanks for watching.
That looks great. I love the idea of having the business software right on there. Sure would be handy. I was going to swap in my older Kenwood head unit to my truck but this has some great features. Thanks!
No problem. Unfortunately Jobber does not have a test account I could try, so I was not able to try out the functionality, but the Yardbook test account seemed to work well on the chrome browser. These Atoto units seem to offer great value for the features. Thanks for watching.
I’m having battery drain issues on this unit as well. It’s pulling around 850 mA on the yellow wire marked constant battery then unit is off with no power to the ACC wire. I’ve seen other reviews that also mention this issue. I have other comments to disable the sleep mode but can’t find them on this unit!
@@robertboyd2107 Interesting to disable sleep mode go to the preferences then tap the system menu 4 times. It will ask you for a code. Enter 3368 and it will go into the hidden settings. Thanks for watching.
This standard model has wifi only so either from a wifi signal in the area your in or from your phones hotspot. There are other versions of this head unit that accept a SIM card and can have their own data as well. Thanks for watching.
I used a wireless charger retrofit kit made specifically for my truck from boost auto parts. They make aftermarket accessories and parts for trucks. The kit comes with all the wiring and is plug and play as it pigtails off an accessory plug in the vehicle. Basically unplug the factory wiring from the accessory plug. Plug the factory wiring into the charger harness then plug the pigtail connector to the accessory plug. That being said you may be able to buy one of their kits for a Dodge Ram truck as the plugs are likely the same as your challenger and try to do a custom install. I have a video I did of the install you can check out. Here’s the link. th-cam.com/video/ceBX125AmR0/w-d-xo.html

I bough ATOTO S8 Ultra PLUS - honestly so far vary bad experience, most of important applications like Netflix, Disney+ cannot be installed from Play, WiFi is turning OFF automatically every 30 seconds, Software support is nightmare, Not possible to use any professional android File Managers, because the Software Shell limits rights of the unit Android user, cannot be root (?!?!?!?) How you can give this unit such good reviews/ opinions? Did you get special not commercial Software ? I bought this on Amazon from Official ATOTO USA seller - HUGE waste of over 1k USD. Can you share your Software Image? It looks you have got something special totally diferent than every regular customers are getting.
I have just a regular S8 standard. Stock software. Netflix and others need to be sideloaded. It’s a car stereo first so of course many video apps won’t support it on play store.
After seeing your comment I’ve been paying attention to FM reception on mine and have not noticed any difference in reception vs AM. Both bands seem to work well, but maybe it depends on where your at. Like if your in the city or more rural or maybe something wrong with your particular unit or antenna connection. I was looking at one of these S8 ones and have seen a ton of different thing stating that it doesn't offer either AA or carplay, they're both only wired, or they can both go wireless. Thanks for sending a link to one that is wirelessly compatible with both
No problem. There’s also a Amazon link in the other video description for that new model that does both wirelessly.
For the steering wheel functions, do you need to install a separate module to use the steering wheel buttons (volume up/down, answer calls)?
From what I remember it depends on the vehicle. The Atoto has the ability to program steering wheel controls and if your vehicle is a simple setup then it may work out of the box. On my truck that was featured in the video it has a complicated factory system with the original radio intergrated with a Bose amplifier and speakers, as well as the onstar system. So it needed an additional interface system to make it all work together. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for your response.
What install did you use? I’ve seen the Metra 95-2001 but the reviews aren’t the greatest for that install kit.
That’s the one I got. The 95-2001. With the holes it has It mounts a bit low but it does the job. Thanks for watching.
Is this the standard model? I just ordered one and this looks really nice. The screen resolution looks so much better than I thought it was
Yes this is the standard model and the screen is very nice. It’s also very responsive with no lag. Thanks for watching.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess appreciate your feedback!
Where did you get that trim piece that makes it look nice and trim? Mine didnt come with one that wide it came with a whimpy thin one
It’s a vehicle specific trim piece made by a company called metra. This one is for lots of GM vehicles of that era. I think it’s model number Metra 95-2001 dash kit. Get it online at crutchfield.com or Amazon. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for this review. your video helped me decide to buy one.
I am curious to buy one. Was there a need for a new wiring adapter for the steering wheel controls to work?
@@Edmonchuck I still have the old original on star system. Never used it or subscribed to it once in the 15 or so years I’ve owned the truck.
Great video! Your stereo looks very nice. I just installed this on my 2005 GMC Envoy so it was nice to see the similar looking dash.
Thanks. It’s a nice headunit with great features. Thanks for watching.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess how does this work if your car trim has a premium sound system with amp? how is the dac?
I used a audio interface from PAC Audio. It allows you to use an aftermarket stereo with the factory Bose speakers and amp. Also allows you to keep the steering wheel controls as well. Thanks for watching.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess but you can set stearing controls on the unit. 250$ for that is really pricey to keep the factory amp, is there another way?
I don’t think it will work without it. Even the steering wheel controls. Everything on the steering wheel goes through the onstar system and there’s not a way to bypass it. I tried. Plugging in the interface makes it all just work.
Do you have any problem with the atoto S8 draining your battery in your truck?
Nope. I’ve not had any issues with battery draining. Thanks for watching.
great review thanks bro I think I'm going to get this along with the metric kit to fit in my 98 Chevy Astro.
Very good review. I just bought one. Thank you
Thanks for watching.
No remote control on this model. It has two USB ports. One on the front and one on the back through a cable. Thanks for watching.
I have 2 2003 Hummer H2's with Bose Amps and Speakers installed. With the S8 be capatable with that setup.?
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess OK. Will do. Thanks
Which trim bezel did you use for this truck? I put an a6 in my sierra but didn’t have the correct bezel.
I used the Metra 95-2001 from crutchfield. Good choice with the A6. I put the A6PF in my car a year after installing this one in the truck. Thanks for watching.
How were you able to retain the steering wheel controls. Can you tell me what you purchased to make it work?
Thanks for the response I appreciate it!
Great video - exactly what I was looking for.
Glad you found value in the video. Thanks for watching.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess Just a quick question - did you run the dimmer wire back to your dash dimmer switch? thx
My installation required an audio interface kit to work with my factory Bose speakers and amp and subwoofer. The interface literally plugs into the same plug that was plugged into the back of the factory radio and then gives you all the same color coded wires to connect the ATOTO harness to including a wire for the dimmer func tion.
Can you record the rear view camera sort of like the dash camera?
No unfortunately not. The dash cam records directly to a microSD card on the camera not on the Atoto S8. Too bad really, it would be nice to have the rear camera record as well. Thanks for watching.
do you have any problems with the unit failing to boot up or freezing on startup?
Nope. Although occasionally it will just reboot itself. It’s not perfect but for the price I think it’s a great value.
Thank you.
Do you know if the ATOTO S8 Standard 7 inch will play MP3 on a USB and which port?
Yes I believe so. You can either use the usb plug on the back or plug into the one directly on the front. Thanks for watching.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess Thank you
Question, did you have to do any special wiring to get the steering wheels controls?
Thanks for watching.
that looks awesome and reasonable
Yes it’s a great value for the features it offers. Thanks for watching.

What Atoto backup camera and dash cam are you using?
It’s all in the video description.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess Thanks again, it's very much appreciated.

I'm reading about a battery drain issue with this unit. How significant is this issue for you on your daily day to day?
Well I’ve never heard about a battery drain issue with it so that might give you some indication on how it’s affected me. 😂 Thanks for watching.

Okay okay slow down my guy,
How did you install wireless charging in your car!? & can I do it to a Dodge Challenger?
Android head unit, so why can't you have wireless connectivity to your android phone? But it's available for the Apple phone... Doesn't make sense
Yeah I’m not sure. I just did another video recently on their new A6PF model, and on that one it does both wireless apple car play and wireless Android auto. Here’s a link to that video. th-cam.com/video/Y01fBkPsGyk/w-d-xo.html

So cool
Yes it’s a very cool upgrade for the truck. Thanks for watching.
FM radio reception SUCKS
After seeing your comment I’ve been paying attention to FM reception on mine and have not noticed any difference in reception vs AM. Both bands seem to work well, but maybe it depends on where your at. Like if your in the city or more rural or maybe something wrong with your particular unit or antenna connection. Thanks for watching.
The reception on mine works perfect. Maybe it's your car? Check your ground wire.
After 1 year this S8 breaks down. No after sales service or spare parts available. Don't buy it.
What actually breaks down? Can you provide examples? Thanks!
