I was going to do one too highlighting the key features I cared about, such as (1) wireless Android Auto, (2) auto connect to phone when phone is in the vicinity, (3) 360 surround view using just 1 backup camera, etc. I couldn't care less about his recital of spec sheet. I mean, not like I need to play cod mobile on this, so I mean, kinda hard for a tablet these days to fail spec wise as a navigation system
@@aaabbb-py5xd I still haven't pulled the trigger on an Atoto yet. But, based on Jake's review I'll be going with Atoto when the time comes. The GPS functions work great if you ever travel into the mountains or the deserts away from major roads, where there is the cellular phone signal! Many parts of the western USA have no cellular reception, but AM radio signals bounce off of the ionosphere at night, enabling you to listen to a country full of stations. Satellite radios work great when you have a clear view to the sky. Soon we will all have StarLink miniature satellite dishes in our cars and then the sky is the limit!
Great review. On my Atoto A6 I use CarWebGuru as the launcher, and PowerAmp as the local music player. It reads from every source (internal, SD card, USB) and builds a library.
That’s actually an impressive unit. Looks promising and the sound processing is very impressive- I’m currently running a Kenwood DMX-7017DAB and that has the best EQ and soundstage set up I’ve seen and yours is pretty damn close! The Torque app is awesome
Your mockery of AM/FM was both amusing and slightly annoying to me who was a teenager in the before time when AM/FM was a thing (turned 16 in 1984). Good review though. Showed it to my 15 year old who is enamored with the infotainment in mom's 2018 Mazda 6. Made him happy to see he can get tech in an aging hooptie.
Very good review. I would definitely own one of these Atoto radios. I like the fact that you can buy their tpms sensors and that it has GPS. The gauge cluster feature looks amazing as well. Especially the BOOST!
The only problem I can see with this head unit is that having Android 8.0 gives it an expiration date because that's 3 or 4 Android versions ago. Eventually third-parties will drop support for that version of Android. Other than that.... looks pretty sweet.
That's some fantastic hat hair Jake! Thanks for giving a reasonable review for this radio. It's not my favourite content from you, but it's still entertaining. I'd also love to see you get something for the insight **HINT HINT ATOTO** I always find the bluetooth radio transmitter cigarette lighter dealies really hit and miss audio quality wise, and AM FMMMMM radio is atrocious, so having this option talked through is great. Knowing that it is possible to rig some models up to (some) steering wheel controls is super compelling. That's what usually turns me away from aftermarket head units, who wants to give up extremely ergonomic functionality?
Thanks to you and your review - which was great, btw - I just ordered this on Amazon, along with the backup cam! Can't thank you enough for being so thorough - I've spent a couple of days comparing what's available...and trying to find ones compatible with Sirius XM to litle avail (other ways around that though). This is bny far the best bang for the buck. Now I just have to get it installed. Thanks again!
Vents and ac control panel. I see this being a major issue during the winter and running the heat on high.. I'd like to hear if it'll shut down due to overheating.
I had 4 of those "Aliexpress special" radios, courtesy of their free returns policy and they were unreliable, to say the least. But you need some time with them to figure that out. The units check a lot of the checkboxes, but most of them barely. The real issue start when you want to actually use the unit for longer - a lot of random issues pop out - like my preset radio stations getting wiped out every couple of days, the unit suddenly deciding that sdcard is faulty today (but it works the day after), playlists or music not recognized, BT phones not recognized, play store software working badly (imagine super quiet Spotify) or random reboots. I haven't had any of the intel boards, as they were pretty dated by last year standards (but might be the most polished thanks to age as proven by this launcher), but all the MTCD and MTCE had issues. And here's one you need to be aware of - *those units are NOT android radios*. It's a mix of some proprietary components that have all the hardware AND some plastered cheapo android board that manages those. Why is that a problem? You won't find compatible apps on the Pay Store for one and all the software you see on the launcher (for fm radio, dvr, bt) are just basic skins for simple programs that communicate on the proprietary board components. And it's half assed. There are some alternative roms built by people that have too much time on their hands, but I got bored after they just broke random other things. And one more thing - that Android 8.1? It's probably not even Android, but a *very* limited version of it called Android Go. And no - you won't get an update.
I've had the same experience. Installed a cheap Chinese head unit in my wife's car. It worked great for a couple months, then it started to randomly glitch out, random reboots, the zlink app wouldn't connect to her iPhone. I finally ripped it out and installed a nice Pioneer head unit. I guess you get what you pay for. I've never seen anyone review one of these units after a year, I suspect they get quietly uninstalled after they start glitching out. Maybe my experience was unique, I'm not sure, but I'll never buy another one.
I went through a couple cheapy android head units, they sucked. I now have the Atota S8 premium. It's in a whole different league. WAY better. Mine came with Android 10 and very powerful processor. Unisoc 7862 arm cortex octa-core, faster than the Rockchip PX6. It runs any apps I have downloaded so far. It runs COD mobile at medium settings. Google maps fully opens in about 2-3 seconds from cold boot. Torque opens in about 1 second from cold boot( it takes a few seconds to connect to ECM). Dual Qualcomm bluetooth 5.1 with aptx. 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi. Toshiba amp with DSP chip. The audio is impressive. It has a built in algorithm when used with a certain Atoto backup camera that will do "Birds eye view" virtual surround view backing. Super cool. Built in Android auto and wireless Apple car play, no extra hardware needed.
Looks like a nice HU, but the big screen presents some issues I would prefer not to deal with. The climate controls look like they're completely obscured by the screen, and the dash overhang making the screen install such a PITA are not worth the large screen size, IMO. Also, this is just a personal preference thing, but no volume knob is a total deal breaker for me. Volume adjustment by pressing up/down over and over is a huge pet peeve of mine that I would not choose to live with.
Great video! I have an A6 Premium and I love it for the same reasons, although I can't use Android Auto as they don't sell the adaptor anymore so maybe I'll get this unit and give my A6 to my Mom.
Great review. Do you plan to make a video showing how to pin out and connect the steering controls? I would be interested in that process I have an older 1997 Ultra you getting this working on yours would be great as a base for how to figure out mine. that is one of the things that keeps me from changing from the stock head unit. This is the closest I have been to dropping the dime and changing mine I just don't want to lose the steering controls.... 'cause I am petty like that
how much actual space is left on the device for apps? My old one came with a ton of stuff I couldnt get rid of and I barely had 4gb of space for apps and data. Im looking to upgrade (also the links arent working in your description)
I have one bone if contention with all of this. There is too much to distract the driver. In Ontario, a lot of that would be illegal to use while driving anyway. The other thing is that a large screen like that is a nuisance at night on a dark road. Night vision will suffer badly if that screen is lit because the unit is doing something. When I am behind the wheel, I will be driving, not dealing with any of that nonsense.
Neither of the first 2 links are working for me. Think about adding a matte screen protector. I put one on the iPad (that I use as a head unit) and it fixed all those issues with glare and fingerprints.
I have an EONON that was made to fit my 2012 Mazda3. It's probably 3 years old and I'd probably NOT do another Android HU. The two complaints I have are that they only have 2.4GHz WiFi radios and the screen is hard to see wearing polarized sunglasses. I looked at the specs for this unit and it also only supports 2.4GHz WiFi, so not taking full advantage of my hotspot or with the home network when sitting the garage performing any updates, etc. Frankly, I've considered just putting my factory HU back in it and figuring out a means to use my Samsung S5E in the car. If ATOTO or others are reading, I wouldn't mind paying the same sort of coin I paid for my Samsung tablet to get that sort of speed, both processor and networking, and screen quality in an Android HU that looks like a factory install in my Mazda...
I'm on the verge of putting an ATOTO S8 in a 2005 4Runner. The JBL Synthesis factory audio sounds great, but I want a backup camera, DVR, and GPS navigation. I like the idea of Android so I can use the OSMand+ navigation app that doesn't tattle to Google or require an internet connection because the maps are stored locally and the routing is calculated locally. I'm still trying to decide if I want the 7" or 10" version of the S8. My old eyes like a big screen but the small screen would probably fit better and not look like an add-on. I love that ATOTO sells an OBDII dongle that allows realtime vehicle monitoring and diagnostics from the dash. When playing audio, could I switch the display back to the home screen to avoid that distracting and annoying spectroscope? Can it record both the front and rear cameras automatically any time the car is on, to function as a two channel DVR? Thanks, and thanks for the great review.
Think you linked the wrong radio..... The link is taking me to a 7inch radio with buttons on the left of the screen. Not the 10.1" radio with buttons on the bottom.
so the only visual for MP3s is the strange equalizer? Not showing album art and information for mp3s is a deal breaker. I just watched another review. It looks like you just have to swipe left. It may be dependent on the tag art.

I was thinking it not only blocked them, but if you put on the heat it could potentially damage the head unit under prolonged use... but then again it's not like you can't angle the vents away from it.
