I Destroyed a Surron in 2 Months - Full Battery Won't Power On

  • Well I somehow managed to ruin a good thing. I went for a ride with no problems left it in my garage overnight and now the surron x won't turn on. After going through all of the wiring and testing the battery I'm pretty sure there is either a short in my wiring harness or in the speed controller. I'll be talking with Luna cycles tomorrow and I'll make another video on what they say but I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to send in that speed controller. Here is the video demonstrating removing the positive lead from the speed controller to separate it from the system for testing. • Sur-Ron Light-Bee trou...

I went through this same issue on my surron x after having it for a week. Came to the same conclusion that the wire disconnected made everything power up. Also made me a little concerned about being far away. Since then it’s been 200 miles of no issues.

I guess its a common overheating issue with the controller. Riding it on the brink of max power will heat the components and it takes only a single capacitor or mos fet to fail and bring the Light bee down. Its a pretty common thing with high powered E-bikes .

The 1st problem with products from China is that they're from China. Quality is not their 1st priority... they are our economic enemy. Nice video. Nice to see you sharing.
Having the controller mounted in front looks like a risky location for water and rocks. I have Hi-Power Cycles 6kW Typhoon (it is a conversion from a MotoPed gas engine to electric). It weighs same as a Sur Ron. I bought it in 2016 and wish I knew about Sur Ron coming and maybe waited for one. The Typhoon has mountain bike rims so it is not as hardy as having small moto wheels. Not long after I bought it, I had my controller go out. They replaced it under warranty. We thought it may have fried from water ingress. Thereafter I sealed the replacement controller with RTV Silicone gasket material. See my bike upgrade video: th-cam.com/video/vAHlBIld4YA/w-d-xo.html I also went thru the whole bike's wiring and put in heat shrink tubing and used plastic conduit like autos used to use. Also, using di-electric grease on connections is a good idea.

after 3 years, mine just started acting funny...if you have all the sensors removed or go through that check and all is ok, there's not really too many other things, usually the controllers go bad, or the BMS in the battery or the hall sensors in the motor... that's about it.
