About Logan, I always interpreted that John let him live because the game “malfunctioned”, not because of having a change of heart. John was talking about his own mistake since Logan didn’t wake up in time to be tested, so this goes against his philosophy of giving people a choice. We’ve seen John test people for waaaay less than what Logan did lol
I think I know a way to connect Saw X, 2 and 3 in terms of Amanda's character. Make Cecilia the first victim of Amanda executed in an impossible trap. Since we all want to see Cecilia die and suffer and it would fit perfectly into Amanda's story.
I was thinking that too. She saw how an evil person was able to make it out of their trap. Amanda will then begin to see that person trying to harm John Kramer, and she will put them into an unwinnable trap.
not only do i agree that it would be a great part of amanda's story, it would also be a fitting end for cecilia, for her to be given false hope for her life to be saved only to realize she's been decieved just before she dies
I kinda disagree that the Sprial traps are winnable. And i think that was the point. The killer didnt actually want any of them to survive or learn a lesson, he just wanted to see them suffer.

@@attonrands His entire tongue wouldn't have been ripped out. Half of it would've been cut off and while there may have been significant blood loss, I don't think he would've died as a result. I think they're all winnable except the hot wax one because the spinal cord connects to the brain & brain stem and I believe not only would that cause some sort of paralysis but that one maybe is the one you'd die from shock.

I saw something that made me like the movie Jigsaw a little more. John Kramer let Logan Nelson live because John made a mistake with his dosage. Logan never heard the rules and instructions of the game, he was out cold. So when Logan says something along the lines "John didn't think it was fair that I died because of an innocent mistake" he was talking about John's own mistake, not the switched medical files.
I love Amanda and I’m so happy to see her rank high on your list. She’s an incredible complex character, and Shawnee plays her so well, especially in Saw 3.
I like your point about Cecilia's actions triggering Amanda's eventual path in Saw III. I saw Saw X two weeks ago, and I also loved it. It definitely enhanced the first three movies, and to put Jigsaw as a protagonist this time is what some horror movie franchises failed to do ("Do your thing, cuz" still brings the cringe).
While I agree that Hoffman might have gotten a little too much focus in the franchise, I still really like his character. I enjoy that he's a resourceful scumbag who will go to any lengths to stay alive, evade the authorities and control "the game".
I have detective Hoffman 1 or 2 on my list. He’s the guy you love to hate because he kept getting away. The ultimate survivalist.. when is close to detective William from spiral, I think the train was unwinnable to her degree where it’s like he didn’t have enoughtime. And then wasn’t he also chained up suspended in the air call I don’t know. I’m very skeptical of the first trap in the movie.
2:16: I have to agree with James from Dead Meat, when he said that Saw 7 is unusually mean-spirited towards its female characters, especially the main character’s wife, who did nothing more than be married to a bs artist she didn’t even know was a bs artist, and yet gets probably the MOST gruesome death of any Jigsaw victim. It makes me want to ask the writers “who hurt you?”😂

Hoffman is my favorite of the villains aside from Jigsaw but their neck and neck the dude is a beast. I'm hoping we get to see more of Jigsaw and Hoffman's relationship in a sequel.

Xavier is the exception to the rule imo, yeah most of the people in the game can be considered villians but xavier was framed to be like a main threat in saw 2, noone else has had that treatment since
With Amanda, she's on the edge. She was a bit on the emotional side during 2, very frantic. And it began to show in saw x. I am very excited to see how her switch gets flipped. She broke his rules again...
I agree I forever hate the fact the killed his ex wife off like that especially by who they could’ve went without using her at all and just kept her as a back story character for how little the actually did with her
I loved all of your JohnWick reviews, so I'm hoping you will review The Continental on Peacock. I finished watching it last night and think they did a fine job honoring the legacy of the Wick films. It's got a great 70s soundtrack too.
In school for Radiology, they make it a big, BIG point to double, triple check patient information in order to not mix up or take X-Rays of the wrong patient. They should really play that scene from Jigsaw just to hammer the point home. I feel like someone behind the scenes of the Saw movies is in my field because every movie involves X-Ray in some way, shape, or form. Shit I watched Saw X with some coworkers and we could not stop laughing at the opening scene because telling patients that we can’t read their images is something I do on a daily basis 😂
The biggest thing I notice people keep missing with Cecilia is the room she was in also got flooded with the radiation machine. We see her getting sores like Gabriella. So she’s likely swimming in cancer cells now. She’s gonna have to live a shortened life because of the thing she used to scam people. That’s some great jigsaw justice and I haven’t seen many people bring it up.
I m loving all these saw rankings , I’ve always been a huge saw fan and I’m glad they finally released a movie in the franchise that u truly love . I actually think Logan is really cool. I think that him deviating from John's rule of no vengeance but still letting people try to save themselves is cool. Him recreating his own game was also a very cool idea, he just needs a bit more screentime in a second movie imo.
If Zepp's thing is not taking charge of his life, maybe he wasn't really poisoned and he was supposed to refuse to kill them and try to NOT do what he was told and that was how he would survive and learn
I *tried* to like Hoffman because I was waiting for him to stop playing the ultra cold and emotionless villain and loosen up a little towards the end, becoming a different kind of Jigsaw that isn’t preachy or whiney, but just crazy. Instead, he panics and cracks under pressure resorting to just straight up mowing down people without much charisma. I’m happy he gets his end in “Final Chapter” because when he realizes he’s lost, he reacts like a sore loser. He was playing a game. He was always still playing a game.
Broooo W Ive been saying that Cecilia will be the reason Amanda will go down a darker path as seen in Saw 3. Im glad you pointed that out. Cecilia will break Amanda and we will see her go out in a satisfying way in the sequel.
And in the Hoffman films half the time it was more about him being a generic serial killer killing people who found him out than the traps. In the films where John's alive the traps are a big focus but with Hoffman they were basically just distractions he used so the police and FBI would be too busy trying to save the victims to catch him.
They really left out Jigsaw card (cut flesh piece) In later movies which is why they named him Jigsaw . Anyway I actually would love to see another Saw movie with Logan Nelson . I think he's the most dangerous of Kramer followers . Too bad movie didn't served him justice to his character.
I actually think every trap in spiral is unbeatable and I think that’s intentional as shenk wants to get the corrupt police off the streets rather than teaching them - it’s a revenge thing
John let Logan live because he accidentally drugged him too much, so the trap was impossible to win. He didn't just randomly decide to save him. It wasn't fair for the game.
The fix for Dr. Gordon in Saw 3D would be just to make him a part of the survivor’s group. Have him crying and traumatized with other recognizable survivors. There.

Cecilia is one those kind of villains where you wanna jump through the screen and beat their ass. That’s how terrible they are as a person. I only felt sorry for Gabriella. The rest of those mfs got what they deserved. Can’t wait for Saw 11
As villainous as some of his apprentices can get, no one can match that unrelenting death stare Tobin Bell has when he's set his sights on you as his next victim. That stare he gives in Saw X when he's decided what he's gonna do to Cecilia and her team gave me absolute chills
for me if there's a "point" to Jigsaw's "morality games" it's precisely that a serial killer's morality is inconsistent bullshit, it's an old trope in psychological horror, we enjoy "morally grey" characters anyway but these "sympathetic" sadists are the most paradoxical
Gordon to me just makes no sense as an apprentice. Kramer put his wife and daughter in mortal danger. I hope a future movie shows he was working to undermine Jigsaw in some way.

In 15 year when they remake Saw...Good luck. ) 1.The person in charge of Amanda's wig in Saw X (hahaahahah, but no, seriously, they did her dirty) I never considered Jill a villain, lol. I kinda saw her as the final girl. She had to do the things in order to survive. Kinda like she just got accidentally caught up with no choice. She deserved better. I liked Logan. I think his issue is HOW they brought him in I think if they'd had the sight to realize they were going to do this prequel, he wouldve been an amazing addition to play the role Dr. Gordan did. He had the medical knowledge. I was actually let down when I saw it was Zep until the twist happened. Gordon would've been awesome had he been someone who was IN the survival group acting the part as someone with PTSD. Then when the reveal happened and you realized he was a plant, it would've had that moment we wanted. It would've been believable for him either leading this group or being in this group. I liked Hoffman. That also could be that I'm a fan of Costas Mandylor. I rewatched Spiral last night and while I REALLY dislike Spiral, I really liked William as a villain. He was such a light feeling character until he wasn't and to see the parallels of his story and Zeke's story, complete with the Shhhhh at the end...had it been done with ANYONE but Chris Rock, it would've knocked it out of the park. He'd be pretty high on my list of villains too. I just wish, for me personally, he was in a better movie. And really, its just Chris Rock that brings this down. He can't NOT be Chris Rock. However, if they decide to bring Saw into present day, we could see him again. They are in the same universe. Also, fuck Cecelia, lol. She is my number 1 most hated character in this franchise and I can't wait to see what happens to her in Saw 11 because she deserves it ten fold. My 1, 2 and 3 would probably be Jigsaw, Hoffman, and Amanda. I would like to see a movie where we see them working together and see a cohesiveness for a bit, flesh him out some. BUT again...I like the actor, haha.

Hey, I love this ranking, it's awesome! But scientifically, you could not survive the tongue trap from spiral. The tongue is a muscle in your body, tearing it out would make you die of blood loss before you even get to the end of the railroad.
I more or less agree with the rankings, but with one major change; I would put Hoffman at number 1, and there's a major reason why. When you look at Jigsaw's motivations, he either doesn't see himself as a villain, or deep down he knows he is - which then makes him a hypocrite. However, there's no hypocrisy about Hoffman. He truly is a villain. He plots, deceives, tortures, kills and mains, and he loves it! Once you add alongside that his intelligence and his resourcefulness, for me he personifies pure evil. He's probably one of my favourite villains of all time. This means I'm probably going to be damned for eternity, but hey, at least it's been a party!
@dav I'm split on Hoffman. I prefer John but as a villain Hoffman feels more formidable and devious. I wasn't keen on how they handled the reveal of Hoffman as an apprentice back in Saw 4 though.

Random but always wondered why Die Hard is your favorite movie ever considering how much you love T2 as well. Seems like T2 would easily be the best when comparing just those two. Both are great though

But I ain’t gonna hide that the Hoffinator’s my favorite character. You’re right about how Cecilia Pederson’s character plants the seeds for where Amanda ends up at the end of Saw 3, it’s only of several ways that Saw X improves Saws 2-4, which helps cement how awesome Saw X is.
For me the Spiral guy is the worst. Not only is it so obvious what the twist is gonna be, but his dialogue and performance at the end competes with Mysterio's monologue in Far From Home for the worst plan reveal and development I have seen this century. It just totally makes me cringe. It also doesn't help that the entire idea of the Jigsaw traps, the ones executed by John and his apprentices, is that it's never personal: it's always emotionless, and it's just random people that almost never have any connection to Jigsaw, and if they do, it's just coincidental. This William guy's enture motivation relates to an incident in his past which made him salty, and now he's punsihing particular people in relation with that

Look, my point is that the previous Jigsaw killers don't confine themselves to people qho made them mad, it's not a personal vendetta against somebody, it just so happens that sometimes people in traps are people Jigsaw knows because that's how he ended up knowing they deserve to be in those traps, but it's not a lifelong grudge he holds on others
Jill getting killed is what makes Dr Gordon get Hoffman at the end due to the tape Jill sent him stating if anything happened to Jill kill Hoffman so is was a necessity to the end of Hiffman and answerinh the question is Dr Gordon voming back.

Hey Cody, I know it may cause some TH-cam complications, but would you consider making a Slaylist for Saw. We haven't seen one of those in a while and I think Saw would be great for one.
Im gonna be ranking the traps in a few days. Thats more or less the same thing but im hoping by using TRAPS instead of KILLS in the title, TH-cam won't be dicks about it.
I love hearing your different views on the Saw movies! I think I’m in the minority but I really enjoyed the twist of jigsaw. I also enjoy Jills death as I couldn’t stand the character!

Saw sequels were just plot twists over plot twist as convincing as young Jigsaw with a backward cap
I actually think Logan is really cool. I think that him deviating from John's rule of no vengeance but still letting people try to save themselves is cool. Him recreating his own game was also a very cool idea, he just needs a bit more screentime in a second movie imo.
I need to point out in Spiral that there was no way to survive that spine trap like she was so screwed there
If Zepp's thing is not taking charge of his life, maybe he wasn't really poisoned and he was supposed to refuse to kill them and try to NOT do what he was told and that was how he would survive and learn
I wasn't actually upset that they kept Cecilia alive. She was vile but she was a badass.
She got exposed to chemicals so Im pretty sure she wont live long and besides she’s basically trapped there.
I *tried* to like Hoffman because I was waiting for him to stop playing the ultra cold and emotionless villain and loosen up a little towards the end, becoming a different kind of Jigsaw that isn’t preachy or whiney, but just crazy. Instead, he panics and cracks under pressure resorting to just straight up mowing down people without much charisma. I’m happy he gets his end in “Final Chapter” because when he realizes he’s lost, he reacts like a sore loser. He was playing a game. He was always still playing a game.
Broooo W Ive been saying that Cecilia will be the reason Amanda will go down a darker path as seen in Saw 3. Im glad you pointed that out. Cecilia will break Amanda and we will see her go out in a satisfying way in the sequel.

And in the Hoffman films half the time it was more about him being a generic serial killer killing people who found him out than the traps. In the films where John's alive the traps are a big focus but with Hoffman they were basically just distractions he used so the police and FBI would be too busy trying to save the victims to catch him.
They really left out Jigsaw card (cut flesh piece) In later movies which is why they named him Jigsaw .

I actually would love to see another Saw movie with Logan Nelson . I think he's the most dangerous of Kramer followers . Too bad movie didn't served him justice to his character.

I agree with you in Hoffman. At first he was cool but then he became an invincible action movie villain that just made the series drag

John let Logan live because he accidentally drugged him too much, so the trap was impossible to win. He didn't just randomly decide to save him. It wasn't fair for the game.

The fix for Dr. Gordon in Saw 3D would be just to make him a part of the survivor’s group. Have him crying and traumatized with other recognizable survivors. There.
I'm just really happy they've decided to produce prequels with Toben Bell's Jigsaw rather than retconing past events so they can tack on lackluster apprentices

Cecilia is one those kind of villains where you wanna jump through the screen and beat their ass. That’s how terrible they are as a person. I only felt sorry for Gabriella. The rest of those mfs got what they deserved. Can’t wait for Saw 11
As villainous as some of his apprentices can get, no one can match that unrelenting death stare Tobin Bell has when he's set his sights on you as his next victim. That stare he gives in Saw X when he's decided what he's gonna do to Cecilia and her team gave me absolute chills
I went into this expecting to see Hoffman at the very bottom (or second to Logan) and I was pleasantly surprised. I’m a Hoffman fanboy.

for me if there's a "point" to Jigsaw's "morality games" it's precisely that a serial killer's morality is inconsistent bullshit, it's an old trope in psychological horror, we enjoy "morally grey" characters anyway but these "sympathetic" sadists are the most paradoxical
Gordon to me just makes no sense as an apprentice. Kramer put his wife and daughter in mortal danger. I hope a future movie shows he was working to undermine Jigsaw in some way.
I love how in this video Cody said that Jill tuck was evil but in the video of ranking every saw traps he said that Jill was innocent

I never considered Jill a villain, lol. I kinda saw her as the final girl. She had to do the things in order to survive. Kinda like she just got accidentally caught up with no choice. She deserved better.
I liked Logan. I think his issue is HOW they brought him in I think if they'd had the sight to realize they were going to do this prequel, he wouldve been an amazing addition to play the role Dr. Gordan did. He had the medical knowledge.
I was actually let down when I saw it was Zep until the twist happened.
Gordon would've been awesome had he been someone who was IN the survival group acting the part as someone with PTSD. Then when the reveal happened and you realized he was a plant, it would've had that moment we wanted. It would've been believable for him either leading this group or being in this group.
I liked Hoffman. That also could be that I'm a fan of Costas Mandylor.
I rewatched Spiral last night and while I REALLY dislike Spiral, I really liked William as a villain. He was such a light feeling character until he wasn't and to see the parallels of his story and Zeke's story, complete with the Shhhhh at the end...had it been done with ANYONE but Chris Rock, it would've knocked it out of the park. He'd be pretty high on my list of villains too. I just wish, for me personally, he was in a better movie. And really, its just Chris Rock that brings this down. He can't NOT be Chris Rock. However, if they decide to bring Saw into present day, we could see him again. They are in the same universe.
Also, fuck Cecelia, lol. She is my number 1 most hated character in this franchise and I can't wait to see what happens to her in Saw 11 because she deserves it ten fold.
My 1, 2 and 3 would probably be Jigsaw, Hoffman, and Amanda. I would like to see a movie where we see them working together and see a cohesiveness for a bit, flesh him out some. BUT again...I like the actor, haha.
You should rank the saw movies by how closely they stick to the jigsaw morality. like which movie has the most traps that follow the morality he's set up for his games
If there’s not a scene in a future film where Dr Gordon doesn’t respond to Jigsaw with “As you wish”… that’s a wasted opportunity

Hey, I love this ranking, it's awesome! But scientifically, you could not survive the tongue trap from spiral. The tongue is a muscle in your body, tearing it out would make you die of blood loss before you even get to the end of the railroad.

I more or less agree with the rankings, but with one major change; I would put Hoffman at number 1, and there's a major reason why.
When you look at Jigsaw's motivations, he either doesn't see himself as a villain, or deep down he knows he is - which then makes him a hypocrite.
However, there's no hypocrisy about Hoffman. He truly is a villain. He plots, deceives, tortures, kills and mains, and he loves it! Once you add alongside that his intelligence and his resourcefulness, for me he personifies pure evil.
He's probably one of my favourite villains of all time. This means I'm probably going to be damned for eternity, but hey, at least it's been a party!
I’m team Hoffman as well. He has some of the most memorable and dare I say the most ICONIC scenes. He’s a core reason I keep watching the franchise.
@dav I'm split on Hoffman. I prefer John but as a villain Hoffman feels more formidable and devious. I wasn't keen on how they handled the reveal of Hoffman as an apprentice back in Saw 4 though.

Random but always wondered why Die Hard is your favorite movie ever considering how much you love T2 as well. Seems like T2 would easily be the best when comparing just those two. Both are great though

I was surprised you put Hoffman in the middle. Knowing you despise him, I went in expecting you to rank him much lower.
But I ain’t gonna hide that the Hoffinator’s my favorite character.
You’re right about how Cecilia Pederson’s character plants the seeds for where Amanda ends up at the end of Saw 3, it’s only of several ways that Saw X improves Saws 2-4, which helps cement how awesome Saw X is.
For me the Spiral guy is the worst. Not only is it so obvious what the twist is gonna be, but his dialogue and performance at the end competes with Mysterio's monologue in Far From Home for the worst plan reveal and development I have seen this century. It just totally makes me cringe. It also doesn't help that the entire idea of the Jigsaw traps, the ones executed by John and his apprentices, is that it's never personal: it's always emotionless, and it's just random people that almost never have any connection to Jigsaw, and if they do, it's just coincidental. This William guy's enture motivation relates to an incident in his past which made him salty, and now he's punsihing particular people in relation with that

And even Saw 6 kinda got less personal after Saw X, cause John went and did the tratament anyway. Look, my point is that the previous Jigsaw killers don't confine themselves to people qho made them mad, it's not a personal vendetta against somebody, it just so happens that sometimes people in traps are people Jigsaw knows because that's how he ended up knowing they deserve to be in those traps, but it's not a lifelong grudge he holds on others
Jill getting killed is what makes Dr Gordon get Hoffman at the end due to the tape Jill sent him stating if anything happened to Jill kill Hoffman so is was a necessity to the end of Hiffman and answerinh the question is Dr Gordon voming back.
Detective Hoffman has grown on me since the beginning I'd probably put him over Amanda.
